Rating: Summary: STINGER READS LIKE QUALITY B-MONSTER MOVIE!! Review: This is my 7th novel that I have read by this author and I am never dissappointed. Every book that I read by this very diversified author is never the same as the last one. From horror to sci-fi and beyond, this author delivers! STINGER reads like a fast-paced horror/sci-fi that would make an awesome movie. The small town of Inferno,Texas is the crash sight of a most unusual alien life-form that takes over a little girl. This good alien is soon followed by the bad alien bounty hunter that is so colorful and scary that I dont want to ruin the surprise. As usual, the author introduces many interesting characters that band together to fight the bad alien and its collective minions. Two rival gangs of teenagers were my favorite characters because the author shows the reader that the prejudice's between mexicans,Indians, and whites are all a waste of ill-feelings, that in the end, we must all band together and endure. A must read!!
Rating: Summary: Great, classic sci-fi horror! Review: This one was one the first "horror" books I read from my dad's bookcase as a teen, and I've read it multiple times since. It's a great "X-files" style story with interesting, very human characters and a horrible creature whose next move you'll have trouble waiting for.
Quite different from McCammon's other writings (all good!) but a great, movie-style alien horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended! : )
Rating: Summary: A B MOVIE IN PRINT Review: Yes, Robert McCammon's STINGER is just like one of those deliciously off the wall sci-fi flicks of the fifties. Only this is much better, and is one of his liveliest and entertaining works. As usual, Robert peoples his story with a vast array of characters, and embroils them in a frightening battle against STINGER, an alien being who remains ominously veiled through most of the book. But we have: a little girl who is seemingly possessed by the spirit of a benevolent alien whose spacecraft has plummeted to earth---her parents are placed in the agonizing realization that if anything happens to the alien force, they may lose their daughter; we have rival gangs, Anglos vs. Hispanics, that become key participants in the ultimate battle; we have a sheriff who is being bought by a nasty big shot; in fact, in STINGER you got it all. And McCammon uses his superior story telling voice to involve you and have you glued to the page, and cheering for the heroes, and hissing at the villains. The revelation of STINGER's true form is awesome.A GREAT READ. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
