Rating: Summary: Run, don't walk to church Review: After reading this book the only thought that came to mind was-Run to church now! Mr. Johnstone has set up a story about the age old battle between good and evil, and it does not disappoint! It makes you think about the way you treat your neighbor, co-workers, and that old person who always stops you to talk, it might not make a difference now but someday it will. It is a fast paced enjoyable story that will leave you wanting to find the next book to find out what happens (I'm reading it now!)
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK MAKES YOU CHECK UNDER THE BED! Review: I did not read this book untill after reading the 4th book THE DEVIL'S CAT. i preaty much just came across that book and after reading it i had to get the first one. This book kept me on the edge and made me believe that not only God does exsit but Satan also. I am not a very religous person but this book does make you think how much Satan does affect our lives everyday. I really wish someone would make a movie from this book. if done right it would be a blockbuster. I encouage you to read the three other books after this one. you would not be dissapointted. So keep the lights on, get under the covers, and keep a bible next to you.
Rating: Summary: I got to page 38, and then I could't take it anymore. Review: My question is this: Did William W. Johnstone ever take ANY form of writing instruction? Not only has the plot thus far bored me to tears, I suffer actual pain at having to read this poorly worded, meandering nonsense. I am honestly not sure how this ever got published...his editor must have been on crack that day. Please, if you haven't yet purchased this book...don't make the same mistake I did. I wonder if Revco will refund me? (PS, i wasn't going to give this ANY stars...but it wouldn't post without one)
Rating: Summary: The Devils Kiss Review: Once I started reading The Devil's Kiss, I couldn't put it down. Johnstone brings the age old battle of good vs. evil to a whole new level. Johnstone makes Sam Balon a man who everyone can look up to and want to try in their heart to be. I've never read a book that has defined a character of class and courage until now. I have read the other 2 books in the series and hopethat there is more then that. I highly recomend this to anyone who truely likes horror because this book will scare you into a whole new reality of the world.
Rating: Summary: Great series Review: Once I started reading The Devil's Kiss, I couldn't put it down. Johnstone brings the age old battle of good vs. evil to a whole new level. Rating: Summary: Grade B shock schlock entertained. Review: The Devil's Kiss is nothing more than an all you can eat buffet of exploitation movie chestnuts (aka cliches) consisting of sex, gun fights, sex, fist fights, sex, monsters, and sex. You have to love how Johnstone describes in loving detail all those wretched, kinky sexual acts while trying to sound like he is actually condemning them. And I never knew that the forces of evil were so incredibly well endowed. You aren't fooling me one bit Mr. Johnstone. Each book in the series is almost endearing in its sloppy, simple minded kind of way. So bad its pretty darn good.
Rating: Summary: I have read better Review: This book is ok. There are some entertaining moments but overall it is a mediocre book. The author uses this book to push his more radical, right wing Christian values. More sadly is that the book bashes gays, equaling them with satanic creatures. In Johnstone's worldview, gays cannot be real Christians. What is bad about this book is that the character development is flat. We never get to know the characters, nor do we get a chance to watch them develop as the "horror" builds. One of the best things about a good horror novel is that we get to see the characters respond to the horror and go through their inner demons as they battle the evil. There is not much of that here. People either are evil or good. There is no transition. Want real horror? Try Shirley Jackson, James Herbert, T.E.D. Kline (a rare but worthwhile find), Peter Straub and Robert R. McCammon.
Rating: Summary: Sensitive readers beware Review: This book was absolutely wonderful and reinforces the age old idea that good will triumph over evil. Of course the battle is not over at the end of the book. I am now half through the second in the series and enjoying it as much as the first. This book, Devil's Kiss, made me thankful that i am a Christian cause i sure would not want to be killed by Sam Balon.
Rating: Summary: Not for the faint of heart! Review: Wow! I am not a Christian but this was one hell of a book, no pun intended, concerning good and bad...God and the Devil and a persons will to do what they think is right. This book is blunt but depending on who is reading it can be looked at in many ways, I say this as a non-Christian person...and before you wonder, I am NOT a Satanist either. William Johnstone is VERY blunt in his writing, not something I am very fond of. He really leaves no room for YOUR imagination because he spells everything out for you plain as day. You can be sure to see EVERY detail in this book, and considering some of the events, I'm not sure if that is good or bad. Because of the graphic nature of this book I was unsure if I wanted to pick up the next one...of course I did. I'm not going to recommend this book...nor am I going to tell you NOT to read it. That will be a decision you have to make on your own based on reviews. I will warn you though, I can't stress the graphicness of this book enough, and it may just be the content that makes me say this.
