Rating: Summary: Sassy, fun and suspenseful vamp tale Review: Gotta love those Moravian vampires and their American Beloveds. Nell is a terrific heroine who is down-to-earth and straightforward. She doesn't hesitate to express how she feels and adapts rather well to "other wordly" situations. The chemistry between her and Adrian is incredibly sexy. Thought the introduction of Damian was a great character, which shows that even after first go-around, people still have a chance to find a Beloved. Dashing and noble Christian and his adorable Allie make their appearance too.
Rating: Summary: Lame, in both characters and plot Review: I like Corset Diaries and I love the horror and sci-fi genres so perhaps that is why I did not like this book. Her characters, as in many of her books, are flat, lacking in depth and vapid. They have very little going on in their lives, or at least they certainly do not mention anything approaching real here, nor do they develop personalities during the book. The plot was nearly non-existent and the vampires were unimpressive. If you want to read a real vampire book check the real horror section. If you want romance from this author try Corset Diaries or Men in Kilts and skip all the rest.
I wish someone had shared this with me before I picked up Diaries, loved it and kept trying to find another gem in MacAlister's other books. I did not find one, other than Kilts, I am sorry to say.
Rating: Summary: jocular vampiric suspense thriller Review: Melissande Banacek flies Seattle based medieval history professor Dr. Nell Harris to Prague to discuss removal of imps and Nell being an untrained Charmer. Nell says she has no skill with charms reflecting back to the devastating deadly incident of ten years ago when she dabbled. Melissande ignores her saying she needs her help to find her missing brother Damien and his son Saar, Moravian Dark Ones who recently vanished. Damien believes that the Demon Lord Asmodeus captured Saar. Nell reluctantly agrees.
Almost immediately, Nell runs in trouble with Dark One Adrian "The Betrayer" Tomas, who threatens her with fangs and kisses if she does not back off. Instead she offers him kisses back as both are attracted to one another. Adrian is stunned because he insists he's not in love yet the teacher feels like his soulmate. Ironically he realizes that he will not be around to enjoy love as his current quest is certain death though he would like to leave fearless Nell safe even if she seems to interfere, intercede and interject into everything.
No one combines humor and vampires better than Katie MacAlister does. Her latest tale is the usual jocular suspense thriller starring a hunk with a sweet tooth for the Washingtonian and a heroine who dares go where no mortal risks their neck. Vampires, demons, charmers, and more provide a surreal tale in which the story line is fun, amusing and biting, typical of Ms. MacAlister, who always entertains her.

Rating: Summary: Very good! Review: No one had to tell Nell Harris magic is dangerous; an accident using her power to Charm cost the life of a friend and inflicted lifelong damage on her own body. Nothing could make her use her gifts again, until Melissande entreated her to save her nephew and brother from a curse, and maybe in the process save the world as an added bonus. Right off the bat, Nell runs into the Betrayer, the vampire, or Dark One as they prefer to be called, Adrian Tomas. He's supposed to be her enemy, she thinks, but as it turns out, he's not half bad. Moreover, she is his Beloved, the woman whose love saves him from a world of darkness. On the other hand, his brother who she thought she was trying to save, is evil, so now they must stop him, in the process of so doing, run head to head with Christian and Allie, heroes of prior books in the series who think Adrian is the bad guy. There's also a bratty teen aged dark one and a pack of mummies following them around to consider, plus, Nell's facing her own fears about using her powers.
**** If Katie Macalister is not on your autobuy list, you're missing a bet. Her quality remains consistently high, packing a profound message in a light hearted story. Another constant plus in her writing is the positive way she breaks rules - heroines are not perfect ingenues, heroes don't always agree with each other, and kids don't have to be cute and loveable. Treat yourself, read one of her books today. ****
Rating: Summary: A Description of the Book Review: Take a flawed charmer named Nell, add a cursed Dark One called the Betrayer who has sold his own kind for centuries to a demon lord, and throw them together in a desperate attempt to save an innocent child...while along the way unentangling themselves from a Welsh knocker named Gigli who runs a house of ill repute for poltergeists, avoiding death by a revenge-minded vampire, and trying to convince a group of mummies that dead really does mean forever.
