Summary: Being a Sandman freak, I absolutely recomend it
Review: Having said that, I must say that this is something you should buy once you have the whole Sandman collection. It doesn't have anything to add to the storyline, but the drawings... Ahhh... the drawings!!!
Towards the end of the book (which is an adorable small size) there are some drawings that were never shown in the series and I was breathless... A great drawing of Desire, and one magnificent Death by some artist that clearly hasn't had all the credit he deserves. There is some preference for Delirium, who has lots of quotes and pages, but as a Tori Amos freak as well I can't complain.
I'd say it's a must for any obsessive collectionist like me.

Summary: Easy to Carry Sandman
Review: The Sandman series if filled with wonderful quotations. However, owning the whole series I felt there was no point in getting this book for the quotations. Instead I bought it for its self-described impressive lineup of artists. Mistake.

Out of the approximately 95 pieces of art, many of them were blow-ups of panels from the comic book. While these panels were drawn by good artists, they seem out of place reproduced here outside of the context of the full page of artwork of which they were originally part. The rest of the artwork, although excellent, consists mainly of REPRINTS of art that has appeared in the various Sandman-themed galleries, but cropped to a smaller size and printed on cheaper paper (thick, unglossy and somewhat rough like construction paper). There is one drawing by Gaiman (not bad, but not great) which I believe is published for the first time here. There were maybe only 3 other pieces which I believe came from some of the Sandman trading cards that I vaguely recognize but don't already own. Basically all the artwork consists of portraits of characters from the series, vs. representations of dreamscapes, and so I assume they will be less interesting to non-Sandman fans (though I doubt any will ever hear of this book).

As for the quotations: they are mostly as wonderful as I remember them. But that's the problem. I remember them. And many of them are less interesting outside of the context of the story. And many of them are only interesting because they remind you of a particular story and aren't all that impressive on their own.

This book may still be of interest to those who do not own the various Sandman gallery comics for its indeed excellent artwork, but only then.

Summary: A great girft for a Sandman fan
Review: This beautiful little book contains a lot of limited artwork, some panels from the series, and some of the greatest quotes from one of the greatest comic book series of all time.

A personal favorite of mine: "Little one, I would like to see anyone--prophet, king, or GOD--convince a thousand cats to do the same thing at the same time."

Summary: Clever oddity from Vertigo
Review: This is an interesting little oddity in Neil Gaiman's brilliant Sandman mythos. Simply put, it is a book of some of the most memorable and thought-provoking lines from the 75 issues of "Sandman" comics and assorted specials, illustrated with pictures lifted from the same titles. Don't come in expecting a story or a great work of art -- it's not. What it is is a nice, compact little volume of wisdom and weirdness, great for the Sandman fan... or perhaps a good way to turn somebody INTO one.

Summary: Ideal tchotchke for the 'Sandman' afficionado
Review: ~This is a nifty little book that will be cherished for the most part by hard-boiled fans of Neil Gaiman's, 'Sandman' series. Casual fans or those without much knowledge of Gaiman's epic mythology would probablly be best advised not to read this until they've digested the series in it's entirety. Or maybe not. This book is slim and as far as text goes, quite sparse. Most readers will coast through this book in 15 minutes or so while still being able to appreciate the breadth of quality~~ artwork lining the pages. But to truly appreciate it do yourself a favor and make sure you read the entire series first.~
