Rating: Summary: DeLint does it again. Review: For those of you who are seeing the citizens of Newford get older, fear not. A new generation is well on its way to taking up the slack. Maxine and Imogene contain many of the qualities that people have fallen in love with in Jilly, Christy, Sophie, and all the rest, but with a new hipness appealing to younger readers. Newford, of course, remains the doorway to the Otherworld. DeLint still manages to keep the different cultural traditions working together, making all the impossible possible and invites us to join in his world, made all the more real by the imperfections and foibles. Cheers, Charles, and I hope to see more of these young ladies, as I am sure they are going to make startling effects on both this world and the Other.
Rating: Summary: Loved The Blue Girl Review: I finished The Blue Girl in record time because I couldn't put it down! Charles DeLint has done it again. For all that he is a prolific writer, he never falls into a rut or pattern you can detect by page 3. I loved the characters Imogene and Maxine almost as much as Jilly Coppercorn, who has always been my favorite character created by DeLint. New readers can begin to explore Newford with this book and easily go back to the older stories and novels to "catch up." Here's hoping this book brings a whole new generation of readers into DeLint's urban mythology. Imogene and Maxine are both strong, brave women who do what needs to be done and learn about themselves and each other along the way. The magical world DeLint creates is as realistic and believable as the surface Newford. Read this and everything else DeLint has written. You won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: What I have been looking for Review: I just discovered Charles De Lint. I'm a very picky reader myself as i am also a writer. I never seem to finish books I start and if I do it takes me many months. However, I read this book in about 4 days of time, I just couldn't put it down. From early on I was pulled into this facinating world of the characters. This book is going on my favorite book list and I have been inspired by the author to be a better writer myself. Charles De Lint has opened up a whole new world of creativity that doesn't have to be bland and contrite as many fantasy books out there seem to be, to be magical. Fresh and lively--Imogene, Maxine--even Pelly seem to get under your skin as memorable and touching characters that are hard to forget once the last page is turned. I am very satisfied and I'm looking forwards to reading other books including The Onion Girl which I just picked up.
Rating: Summary: Another masterpiece Review: What can I possibly say about Charles de Lint that hasn't been said already? The man is a master storyteller, a master craftsman, a master of plot and character, and he never, never disappoints. He probably throws out better prose than most authors allow to see print.
And this is another worthy example of his expertise. If you love someone, buy them this book.
