Rating: Summary: Superb description of the character of God Review: This is a great book. I'm usually guilty of reading some dense theology, but reluctantly started this book at the behest of my wife and found it a tremendous breath of fresh air. Lucado does a great job of describing the wonderful grace of God, especially in the first half of the book. I found myself renewed and remembering what brought me into Christianity in the first place - God's great goodness and initiative. My clever Christian friends found it unlikely that I would be reading something "ordinary" like a Max Lucado book, but this gentleman has a homespun and piercing way of presenting a God he really knows. Thanks Max!
Rating: Summary: Lucado eloquently captures the character of God!!! Review: This is not a book condoning sin. Lucado's snippet on the book cover immediately compelled me to buy the book. It has vivid analogies of God's grace. After reading the book, one must sit back and marvel at God's grace and mercy and be amazed at the love the Father has shown! The book is detailed enough for "mature" Christians, yet simple enough for "baby" Christians to understand and take to heart!
Rating: Summary: GREEEEAT!! Review: This is such an awesome book, one of my favorite Christian books. It touched me in so many ways, just reminded of the great depth of GOd's love for all of us. Must read for any Christians.
Rating: Summary: Gripping book Review: This is the first Max Lucado book I have read. It won't be the last. The parable he tells at the beginning was so good, I made my friends read it. They all enjoyed it too. Max runs through the book of Romans to tell of the Grace of God as he refers back to the beginning parable. There are also other relative stories he tells to add color to this book. He teaches in a way that grips the reader like it's a mystery novel or something. I'd recommend it to everyone interested in God's love, mercy and grace. Good for evangalizing, too.
Rating: Summary: Everyday examples about extraordinary love Review: This tape provided some wonderful, "real world" examples of how God never leaves our side. When we feel mired down by this world and our obligations, there are daily miracles that keep him close to us. Let it touch your heart, too!
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST things to have happened to me... Review: Though i am not fully finished reading this book; i have to say, it has already captured my heart. Lucado's talent for spreading the Word with a direct simple approach intertwined with his comforting sense of humor, has helped me remember the reason that I believe.
Rating: Summary: Grace is great -- Max is mediocre. Review: Unfortunately, Mr. Lucado's writing style doesn't lend itself to the lucid treatment of grace. I found his analogies weak and his allegories uninteresting. More to the point, the issue of grace is pivotal to a growing relationship in Christ. I would hate to cause dismay in a new believer who thought Mr. Lucado's take on the subject was the bottom line. May I suggest the Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. Now there's a 10!
Rating: Summary: Why it is so hard for people to believe they are saved Review: Using the book of Romans, Lucado illustrates that in spite of our sinful nature, God has always loved us and always will. It is our unwillingness to believe the free gift of salvation and grace that is truly incredible.
No matter how badly we beat ourselves up or however unforgiving we are of ourselves, God will recieve us with loving, open arms.
A must read for the saved and un-saved
