Summary: book review by Jason Phelps
Review: I thought the book The Beasties was an okay book. I liked how the author described the scenery and how the beasties looked. I also liked how the book made me visualize a mental picture in my head of the tunnels and I could paint a mental picture in my head. Usually when I like a book I never want it to end , but this one book did end. Some parts bored me but this book was interesting enough. Some negative parts I would say about this book would be, that some parts bored me. For instance when the the author described too much about the loggers and there was no action. Some other negative things I would say are the beginning because there was no action just description. More positive aspects would be how the author described the Beasties and where they lived. My favorite part of the book was probably the end because well, it wasn't what you would expect. All of his books are not what you expect but they are still good. ENJOY!!

Summary: The Beasties
Review: I thought this book was great! William Sleator discribed each character so that you could see them in your head. For example when he discribed the beasties he said, "Their skin was flushed slightly, a purpilsh color, sharp nose, big eyes, high cheekbones, and almost no chin beneath the protruding teeth." Some beasties did not have all their body parts. The beasties are a family that live in the woods underground Doug and Colette are the kids who find the beasties' tunnle. The beasties can not speak English except for Fingers who is a beastie who also becomes Colette's bestfriend . The beasties are being killed off. I thought the book was very good, but trhe ending was not. It was unrealistic. The book was very well writen, very detailed and easy to follow. It was very suspensful and kept me on the edge of my seat.Iwould only change the end.

Review: My Book Review. Chris of Ohio. I think that the author of THE BEASTIES is running out of good ideas for the endings of his books!! I was disappointed by the end of this book. THE BEASTIES is a copy of other books that I have read before. I did not like this book, because there was not enough action. The book was hard to pay attertion to, because it had too much detail about things that did not need to be detailed and not enough detail in other areas. The only part that I liked was when you got to meet THE BEASTIES. THE BEASTIES were cool& funny, because of the description that was given! I also liked where they lived, because they were smart. The things that they did, like the bicycle that made the light turn on and the trap door, which were very ingenius. I wouid not recommend this book, because it did not hold my attention well enough. I hated the ending of the book, because it ruined what I had read earlier. I thought that this book was going to be a good book, bb-uu-tt-gg-uu-ee-ss-ss- again! Thanks for your time and for reading my book review about THE BEASTIES.

Summary: I thought this book was full of creativity and imagination.
Review: Sleator did an excelent job on this book. I love the whole thing. The looks of the beasties were so creative and unlike anything else. He made me fell as if i was right there in the story. The feelings and emotions of these characters wereso great and you can really see how he put so much thought into each character. I really loved this book.

Summary: Neat idea
Review: that there book in interesting (if not somewhat un-original) in that it revolves around a novel idea with great pontential- the classic "gee-I-never-realized-that-there-is-a-whole-seperate-species-of-humans-that-live-right-beneath-us-but-actually-I-sorta-did-'cause-I-saw-it-in-a-million-movies". The main character ends up donating an eye to their cause.... protecting themselves from destruction vaguely linked to destroying the forest, which causes an equally vague disease that causes symptoms that have much in common with those of leporsy. And what is the explaination for the "beasties" abillity to surgicaly attach an eye to a long empty, decaying eye socket, while they can't seem to learn how to farm? Or maybe they farm fungus or something of the sort, and it just doesn't float to the surface o' my brain.

Summary: The Beasties ROCKS!
Review: The Beasties is a great book with great twisTs and turns in the plot. It's about a 12 year old boy named Doug and his sister, Carlotte. Carlotte goes and joins the Beasties, but Doug stays behind. When he tries to,"join", they [the beasties] don't let him join , but they eventually do. Lots of exciting things happen during the middle, which include a battle between the Beasties and the humans. (spoiler) That is all for now, thank you.

Summary: The Beasties Review
Review: The Beasties was a book about a group of creature that live in the forest and disemember people that work in logging camps so they can't destroy their homeland the two main characters, 12 year old brother Doug and his younger sister Colette move up to the Northern Wilderness because of their fathers research and, they stumble onto the Beasties Tunnels and they are scared into working for the Beasties but they later found out the real truth behind them. I thought this book was ok story wise. To me it was entertaining and nothing more. There wasn't very much depth to the characters and not much attention was paid to the story. Alot of the stuff in it was used for shock value when more time could have been spent on developing the story and the Beasties more. Like when Sleator is describing the Beasties cutting off a loggers arm. After thinking about it more Sleator was trying to go for more shock value rather than story. Therefore, I found myself not caring about what has happening to the characters in many points in the story. For example, when Doug gives his eye up to Fingers. I did not care at all. I was just like so freaking what. You know the writing is not done well. When, you do not even care about a momentous event like that happening to a character. This book is defitneley not recommended for younger readers. I can see how this book would give younger readers nightmares. I would defitneley not read this book again in a million years. It was not worth my time but I will give it an ok on the story to why the Beasties did what they did. In conclusion, The Beasties was an ok book but, I would not recommend it for anyone. I give it two thumbs down.

Summary: Amanda's Book Review for the Beasties
Review: The Beasties was a book that had many good and bad things about it. For example some good things were that William Sleator used good detail, description, setting, and imagination. He used great detail when he described the was the Beasties looked. How they had distinct features and at times almost transparent skin. He also described the tunnels that the Beasties lived in with vines coming in and out of the walls and roots twisting around on the ground and ceiling. I think he chose a great setting because to me underground seems like a dark, mysterious, and sometimes even scary place. To me this fits the Beasties perfectly because I think they seem like dark, mysterious, secretive, and at times scary creatures. Some bad things about this book are how at times it was very slow and didn't have much action. For example at the beginning it seemed to take a while for things to get started. This again happened during the middle of the book, except this time it took a while for some good action to start. I also disliked the ending a lot. Beasties was already a very unrealistic book and the event that happens at the end makes the book even more unrealistic. Also the ending occurred to soon. As soon as the big event at the end of the book the bok was ended. I wish the author would have explained what happened to the characters after the big event and told what happened to them in the future. I also would have liked this book a whole lot better if it was a lot more scary and not so unrealistic. I recommend this book to people who like stories that are quickly ended and people who like science fiction books. I also recommend this book to people who don't like scary books. At the beginning of the book the Beasties seem scary as well as the entire book, but once you keep reading the book it becomes less and less scary. I love scary books so this didn't help to interest me anymore in reading and finishing the book. People who don't mind about books being scary or not would not be affected by this. Therefore go on and read the book!
