Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: I liked The Beasties for the most part. The book had interesting characters and descriptive words. It had a decent storyline and was a fast paced book. The book did indeed have a suprise ending, which no one could guess. Colette and her older, and supposedly bolder brother, Doug, are the main characters. I believe the setting of the book fit the story. The setting was set at a logging site, deep in the forest . The old house had tunnels and creeking floors. This was, in my opinion, a great setting for the book. On the more negative side... I would give Sleator an "A" for effort, but the ending was extreme and not what one-in-a-million people would do. The story and events happened a little fast. For example, a man's arm was being amputated from his body and this scene was only described in less than a paragraph. I would be thinking about it, and having nightmares all week. Sleator never has Doug reflect on the scene again. I was having slight trouble keeping up. The book was very unrealistic. First, Beasties don't exist. Second, no one lives in underground tunnels that lead to people's houses. I would recommend The Beasties to anyone who is looking for a quick read or into Science Fiction (and EXTREME endings). This is not a hard book to read, so I would recommend this to kids about 10 or older. But some scenes are a bit descriptive, gore and all. I read this book in less than a week, probably because I liked it (or the teacher required me to). Either way, I would prefer the book. I would rate this book a two (2) out of five (5). With a couple changes, mostly involving the ending, this would be one of William Sleators best.
Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: I loved this book! It was very very detailed and easy to follow. The ending was great, it wasn't a cliff hanger ending. The whole story-line was grand, with a combo of horror, suspense, and mystery who wouldn't enjoy it. This story will keep you in your seat, it is a definite thriller. The best part was when the author first introduced the creatures known as Beasties. These are the horific monsters the main charectar is warned about in the begining of the book. They are small cretins with long razor sharp teeth. They can talk and are very much humane although humans are there sworn enemy. They don't kill people, but they do have a doctor Beasty who amputates human body parts and puts them on the beasties. The most vivid story elements were the charectars and the conflict. The charectars were very detailed and personified.you can really relate to the charectars minds and there behaviors. The conflict was great it shows a horific monster and shows it is only trying to survive. It's another human versus beast senarios. It was great and very detailed throughout.I loved every aspect of this book the made it very detailed and well written so you kept up very easily. This was a great book you should read it to.
Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: I read Beasties and I think that it is a good book. I liked how the author, William Sleator was specific in how he described the charactersin the book. The best part in the book for me was when Doug and Collette found out the Beasties wearen't that bad and that they wearn't as scary as doug's friend had said they were. As I was reading the book, there were parts were I just coulden'tput the book down because it was so intereating. Then there were some parts were I diden't find interesting. The ending of the Beasties was not very good and did not keep my attention. This is because that at the end I was led off-track and the ending would have been better if William Sleator had stuck to the main topic. Since the ending was so unexpected, I was very surprised. I had my own idea of how it should end and was disappointed when it ended differently. By reading this book, I learned that it is always a good idea to make your own decisions and not always believe what your friends tell you. Even though friends have an opinion, you need to find out the facts for yourself and make your own decisions. I would recommend this book to kids my age. The book was well written, easy to read and understand, but was a little bit hard to stay on track with every page. This book is very good for someone who likes excitement and loves suspense. Try to read this with an open mind and don't try to figure out the ending, let William Sleator do that for you!
Rating: Summary: Not very good Review: I read the book the Beasties. I didn't enjoy this book. I thought that this book rushed into everything too fast. By the end of the second chapter it seemed like it was the middle or the end of the book. Also after the scond chapter the book got really boring. Their was only a few good about this book . It taught that whatever we do to nature that it will affects everything. In the book when the trees were being cut down and it was killing the beasties. When we do stuff to nature we affect things that we don't even know exsit. In the book The Beasties the logers didn't even know that the beasties existed so they didn't know htat they were hurting them . Another thing that the book taught us is that we should not judge a person( or thing) by the way that they look. In the book Doug, one of the main characters, said all of the bad things about how they looked and thats part of the reason that doug didn't like the beasties. The ending was also really bad. It seemed like it didn't really finish the end of the story. And the action that Doug took wouldn't really happen and it isn't really possible for this to happen. But then again anything occurs in science fiction will never really happen in real life.
Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: I really liked this book because they described the beasties really well, like how they described how the beasties have sewed on arms and legs. I also liked the way they used the kind of words that Fingers used. My favorite part is when they talk about haow the pathway and the little rooms look. The best part is when Doug and Colette get stuck in the underground tunnel. They screamed and screamed but they couldn't get out, and nobody could hear them! I liked the way that the author made the climax of the book, when doug and colette see the first beastie. I also like how explained the characters and how gross the beasties looked.
Rating: Summary: Jennifer's reveiw for The Beasties. Review: I think that William Sleator is a very zestfull writer. William Sleator wrote a book about animals that lived underground. These animals are called " Beasties." The Things I like about this book are, the way he discribed the setting and character's. He used some very disciptive words like, "very precocious" as he discribed a character named Colette. I also liked the way the story was well organized. The author did an excellent job of creating suspense. The only things I did not like about this storywas, the ending and the way the loggers treated the beasties. The book is unreal, but the end was not what I thought it was going to be.The loggers cut down trees where the beasties lived. I would recommend this book to any teen, kid, or adult who likes action packed and suspensful books. This book is for all ages. What I learned is " it's not whats on the outside, it's what's on the inside." In this story the kids became friends with these life-forms, then so can we. HAVE FUN READING!

Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: I thought that the strory The Beasties was very interesting. I thought that The Beasties was very interesting. The description of the beasties were very good. With the desctription of the beasties, I could picture the beasties in my mind. For an example, the beastie is shorter than a person, has bristly white hair, pale skin, large eyes, two teeth curved down from the upper jaw, long nose, no chin, and high cheekbones and wears a burlap sack around its waist. I thought that the book The Beasties was a little confusing sometimes, for an example, when Doug and Colette, the two main characters, got into the beasties tunnel, I was confused how they got into the beasties tunnel. Just go to the library and get the book The Beasties. I hope that you want to read this book. The Beasties is written by: William Sleator.
Rating: Summary: The Beasties Review: i thought that this book was great! It was one of the greastest books i ever read! I couldnt put it down once i started reading it. My parents had to make me put the book down at night so i could sleep because i couldnt put it down. it is suspensful and keeps u on ur toes waiting to see what happens. it is a wonderful story with a great ending. i strongly suggest that who ever reads this review should immedialty either buy the book or borrow it from ur local library
Rating: Summary: This is an ok book Review: I thought the book Beasties was an ok book. I felt it had a great deal of unneeded information. For instance, why would any sane person have gone in the tunnel to begin with? It was really unrealistic. I would never have done what they did! However, there are a few interesting parts. The part when Doug and Colette find the book baseball bat and ball was cool because they got what they liked. Also, the part where they almost were killed by the spikes was thrilling too. By readig this book, I have learned that you should never judge a book by its cover or the paragraph on the back that draws you in.They only put the interesting parts on the back. This back cover is pretty blank! For the people that like books with way too much dialogue- this book is for you! For the rest of the people like me I would not recommend it!
