Rating: Summary: Dark Shadows fans will love this book Review: This book is very well written and really filled in the Dark Shadows saga. As a Dark Shadows fan it was good to have Angelique's side of the story. She was treated miserably by Barnabus and acted out of love, be it from the evil side. Like Darth Vader she turned to the dark side. Highly recommended to Dark Shadows freaks.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining read for horror fan & DARK SHAOWS fan alike. Review: I truly expected this book to be bad. However, I was surprised at how entertaining it actually is. Lara Parker, who played Angelique, sets out to tell the story behind Angelique's fall and her relationship to Barnabas Collins. What could have easily been a cheap attempt at a romance novel is rich with history and facts on the colonial period on Martinique. Angelique's origins have mythological overtones, influenced by the beliefs of voodoo. She tells the through the eyes of the residents of Collinwood Manor as they read Angelique's unearthed journal. Parker has a firm grasp of the character, instilling traits that will appeal to both men and women. She does a brilliant job of plotting out the story in a gothic fashion, seamlessly weaving in elements of the supernatural. The narrative is rich with details and descriptions of colonial Martinique, plantation and life on the high seas. Parker never allows the narrative to get bogged down with the details, allowing the story to unfold at a good pace. It is epic, grand, and in many ways transcends both series and previous novels. ANGELIQUE'S DESCENT is an uncommonly entertaining read that fans and newcomers alike can applaud. A fabulous book to read on the beach this summer. However, be careful not to get so caught up that you get a sunburn.
Rating: Summary: It is a true attention grabber for Dark Shadows fandom. Review: This book is a true look into the history of two main characters from the Dark Shadows genre. It intimates that the connection between Barnabas Collins and Angelique was not just a coincidence, but rather possibly fated from their first meeting when both were very young and chance met in Martinique. It is the struggle and eventual defeat of a young Angelique in her attempt to circumvent her fate to become a servant of the demon who had tempted her from the beginning of her young life, and try and find love with the man who was fated to be hers from the beginning, BARNABAS COLLINS. This book was attention grabbing from the very first paragraph that Lara Parker created. I am a long-time fan of the Dark Shadows program and found it a refreshing change from regular soap opera fare. I am glad to see that certain members of the cast have brought the story forward for another generation to enjoy. I am hoping that the book, "Angelique's Descent" is just the first in a series of new Dark Shadows books to be produced. It is well worth exploring for both new, old and re-discovering fans of the series. It is truly a well-written book and a worthwhile effort from this new author, Lara Parker. I hope to see more from her in the future.
Rating: Summary: This is a great midnight, moonlight bed buddy, a must read! Review: Lara Parker is the perfect author for this tale of "love in the shadows!" It is written with the passionate approach which she gave to her role as mistress of the dark and deadly! Who could resist her? Who can resist this book?
Rating: Summary: A must for Dark Shadow fans Review: Angelique was one person everyone loved to hate, this book put a reason as to why she was the way she was, it was very good. Can't wait for the second one.
Rating: Summary: Corn and porn. Review: This book was pure corn and porn. Ms.Parker, don't quit your day job
Rating: Summary: Excellant biography of a fictional character Review: Lara Parker does a excellant job taking a character already established and making a past for her that is so realistic that it is almost a anti-climax when she gets to the part that was already handled on the television show. You become very involved in the life of the young Angelique and it is very interesting that she invlolved Barnabas into the young life. Her descent into the evil that becomes such a part of her later life is fascinating and you better understand her betrayal of her best friend. I also liked that she involved Barnabas and Julia together finding the diary and becoming so involved in reading it like a addiction that you can't fight even though you know you should. I was very happy with the book and could find no major flaws,
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: I was a huge fan of Dark Shadows when it aired originally and have been very pleased to see so much internet information on the show. This was a very good read, and I read it cover to cover at one sitting. Any fan of vampires, witches, love, intrigue and Dark Shadows will enjoy it immensely. Good work, Lara Parker. I hope another Dark Shadows book is in the works!
Rating: Summary: an awesome book Review: as a new dark shadows fan i was deeply disapointed when the scifi channel cut shadows from its morning line uo a while back. it was of great excitment to me to read this well written and riveting novel which kept me spellbound from cover to cover. now that shadows is back on tv i look foward to watching, however i also look foward to more from lara parker, giving a villan a rich 3 dimensional history.
Rating: Summary: Very detailed story of Angelique and Barnabas' love affair. Review: This first Dark Shadows novel of Lara Parkers is an excellent account of the story of Barnabas and Angelique. It allows viewers of the television show to understand the full story of their romance and the full story of Angelique's past.
