Summary: Dark Shadows returns
Review: I just finished this book and really enjoyed it from beginning to end. The only sore point was that a lot of detail was given to Angeligue's time in Martinique with her father, but then as the story progressed the detail became a summary of the Dark Shadow's series and how Barnabas became a vampire. I wish that more detail could have been presented.

Parker did a good job in bringing the series to life and I remembered how good it was- even the 1991 series was good. This is an entertaining book and I cannot wait for the next one to come out.

Summary: It's Awesome: Read It!
Review: I was introduced to Dark Shadows last summer and I was hooked.I got to read Angelique's Descent and I loved it. Lara Parker givesus beautiful descriptions of Martinique and Angelique herself...It has a good twist of bringing the past back into the future. I loved the first time that Angelique and Barnabas met. I'll never forget that! ...Lara's description of Angelique's life is excellent. It made me feel sorry for her and I still do. Thanks Lara for a wonderful portrayal of Angelique and keep up the good work! END

Summary: For Dark Shadows Completists Only
Review: Somewhere within this dull 500-page novel there is a good 250-page novel. Ms. Parker, who played Angelique on the '60s TV show "Dark Shadows", certainly has a wealth of interesting ideas about the origins of the character. Unfortunately, these ideas get lost amidst the overly-descriptive prose.

Summary: I WANT MORE!
Review: This book was just awesome. I work 3 jobs and still somehow couldn't put it down. The end made me begging for more. there will be more, right?

Summary: The Story of Barnabus and Angelique was worth the wait.
Review: If you love Dark Shadows or just gothic horror/romance, than "Angelique's Decent" is for you. I've been a fan of DS since I was six years old, so naturally, I was eager to read this book. It lived up to my expectations and more. Lara Parker is not only a good actress, she's a talented writer. Ms. Parker obviously knows these characters well, but she has fleshed them out in a way that TV never could. She has revealed their complex personalities. We get to know and understand them. Best of all, she has has created for Angelique a richly detailed past that explains her motivations and makes her hopeless love/hate relationship with Barnabus Collins all the more tragic. Kudos to Ms.Parker. I can hardly wait for the next book!

Summary: Dark Shadows: Angelique's Descent
Review: I am an avid Dark Shadows fans, ever since I was in grade school, now that I am older, and working on my second college degree, I can really enjoy Dark Shadows on the Sci-Fi channel. I purchased the book through Amazon.com, and I found the book disappointing.

Summary: Betty's Opinion on "Angelique's Descent"
Review: This is the story of Angelique's development as a witch. The plot covers her childhood and the events that turned her into the nemesis she becomes for the Collins family. The story is rich in imagery and a tightly-written plot (ie., the story moves quickly and keeps the reader wanting to keep reading). After I read it and saw Angelique again on Sci-Fi's Dark Shadows episodes(THANK YOU, Sci-Fi Channel! ), I better understood her motivations and her interactions with the Collins family. I highly recommend this book to fans of Dark Shadows. I always liked the Angelique character and I thought (and still think) Lara Parker, as she appeared in Dark Shadows, was a highly accomplished and experienced actress. Imagine my surprise when I learned recently that she was a novice in that role! Even if Lara were not the author of this book, I would still say this: the author is very talented and I hope she will continue to produce literature for this series. DARK SHADOWS FANS: get this book! You will want it for your collection. And you'll read it several times.. I already have.

Summary: DARK SHADOWS: ANGELIQUE'S DESCENT
Review: Lara Parker has created a simply wonderful first installment in the new DARK SHADOWS series. She has extended the DS mythos, not just written a rehash. Her use of the characters from the show are fresh and believable. I hope we see future books from Ms. Parker, a first-rate writer. I couldn't put it down!

Summary: A nice reminder of why DS is so fun
Review: It was nice to finally read something new about two of the most important characters in DS. Parker does a nice job of setting atmosphere and filling in some of the internal components of Angelique. However, the book took too much time during Angelique's early years without using this background information to inform her motivation in later years. What was it about these experiences that made her drawn to Barnabas or made her so vengeful in the actual story line of the soap? Likewise, Parker should have spent more time on the latter years (pre the story line seen on TV - when A & B first become intertwined) in a more substantial way. Nonetheless, it was a fun read and I look forward to having a go at the latest DS novel. It's great to see some new material about some wonderfully fun characters.
