Rating: Summary: WATCH OUT Review: This book is a HIT! The book was a quick read could not put it down all the charaters even the dark one was so real I love the way the book starts out and how she left you hanging waiting for more at the end. Again a most read and if you Love Buffy this is way way better and I hope it is turned in to a movie and L.A Banks writes the screen play
Rating: Summary: Very Frustrating. Review: This book may as well have ended in mid-sentence. It was very frustrating to have the book end without any feeling of conclusion whatsoever! It ends with a cliffhanger and left me feeling snubbed for paying full price for a book that I only read half of-- at trade paperback price, no less!In favor of the book, the author's characterizations are good and her setting is rich in its mythology. The story is fast-paced, intruiging and compelling. I liked the story very much, but I would not have purchased the book without its sequal if I had known how little of the whole story I would be getting for the price.
Rating: Summary: Mahogany Book Club Best News Series Award 2003 Review: This is the legend of Vampire Huntress Damali Richards. She is tough, sexy and streetsmart with her ancient triple bladed dagger she calls..Madame Isis. She kicks vampire butt with finess. While Damali comes to terms with being a Neteru, she struggles to be just a normal woman having a normal life. This first of the series was action packed. This new black tough and sexy slayer will make these editions a thrilling ride into the dark side with a hip-hop twist..
Rating: Summary: The worst vampire novel I've ever read Review: This novel was a cmplete disappointment. Aside from being a complete rip of of Buffy, it was simply poorly written. The narrative jumped from being third person narrative to being stream of conciousness narrative and back again in the same paragraph. The characters were poorly developed and seemed to spend a great deal of time bemoaning their fate. In fact I found the characters to be as shallow as the plot. Please, save yourself the money and aggravation by skipping this book. And do nothing to encourage publishers to publish this kind of poorly written books.
Rating: Summary: Anne Rice move over Review: This was a fantastic read. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next book in this series. I felt like I was right in the book. I like the whole multicultural feel with the guardians being from different ethnic backgrounds. I just like the feel of this book. It's fresh and up to date with the hip-hop music scene so that teens can relate to it. Anne Rice's Vampire Chronocles was very good and extremely entertaining;but focused on the beginning of the vampire legend. This book brings the legend onto the new millenium. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good scare.
Rating: Summary: Ms, Banks is Delightful Review: This was definitely a different type of book for me. I see so many compared it to some stupid show "Buffy", this to me was so different from that maybe because I never watched the garbage. This book had an interesting start to it, I find L A Banks style of writing refreshing. She doesn't have that boring set in the graveyard on a dark and lonely boring night or typical Louisiana. It is Urban Fresh and the tale is weaved wonderfully. I am awaiting my other books and look forward to the ongoing saga.
Rating: Summary: If you like Vampire Stories you have to read this... Review: When I read the write up for this book I had to read it. I couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail. The book DID NOT let me down!!! I can't wait until I get my hands on Awakening to see where the story goes.
Rating: Summary: Lets get it started! Review: Without further ado, there is finally a vampire book on the scene that has a female heroine. Congratulations Ms. Banks on successfully centering a story on a strong, bold, independent female that can handle herself in volatile situations. The name of this "shero"? Damali Richards. Damali is on the brink of turning 21 and is about to come into her full power as a vampire slayer. Under the watchful eye of her team of guardians and her mentor - Marlene, they pursue battling the creatures of the underworld. Cleverly disguised as musicians, with Damali as the "spoken word artist", this band of guardians' moves undetected throughout the natural and spiritual realms searching for vampires. Trouble is brewing. This "ripening" that Damali is about to undertake has heightened all of her senses and she's unable to deal adequately with all that is occurring within her. She emits an aphrodisiac scent that attracts male vampires to her and fiercely goads female vampires to seek to kill her. The action- and there is a lot of it, once started, is vividly described and is horrifically violent. To a reader with an overactive and dramatic imagination such as myself, nightmares happened and that's a good thing. A great work of fiction always stirs the reader. The reader gets an intimate look at the seven guardians throughout this compact read. Multicultural, multifaceted and multi talented, these guardians, hand picked to protect the slayer, make the story a most compelling read.
