Rating: Summary: Read Rose Red Review: Rose Red is a remarkebly done story about the life of a woman in the early 1900's. Although many would have you believe that the diary is about the mysterious house owned by the Rimbauer's, that just isn't the case, in fact i could've cared less about the house itself, especially after watching the corny and ever so pathetic series on television:How did Stephen King get away with that? The fact is, I bought the book because I was intrigued with Ellen's story of her life and travels with her scum bag husband whom makes a habit of dating whores behind Ellen's back. It was an easy read and I finished the book within two days and I cannot tell you how much I thought about it after I had finished reading it. So, I had to read it again! Ellen is at the age of nineteen when she falls in love and marries the wealthy forty year old John Rimbauer. As a token of John's love for her he begins the escavation of a home...not just an ordinary home, but a mansion that would be the envy of every wealthy couple on the west coast and possibly throughout the United States! the bad luck starts when Ellen visits the grounds on which the manor should be built, a worker shoots another worker and as the blood of the dead man forms a puddle Ellen cannot get the image out of her head no matter how hard she tries and it was at that moment tht she dubbed the house Rose Red, for that was the everlasting bit of color that Ellen first saw upon its cursed ground. The building of the manor was to continue while Ellen and John were away on their one year honey moon around the world which was conveniant for John for this way he could conduct business with other oil corporations, hunt, and lift the skirts of young women whom could never squeal on him. During the horrendously long honey moon, Ellen contracts a disease from John that men carry and women suffer from. It is then that she meets an African nurse named Sukeena whom helps her cope through the disease with efficiency. Ellen decides that from then on Sukeena was to be by her side. Upon returning to Rose Red after a year away a party isd called for to honor their house that was long from being completed. And as the house continues to grow, so do the miraculously horrible events of Ellen's life turn for the worst and Ellen is unsure as to how she should label the cursed manor. Was it friend? Foe? Or just a place where coincidences occur muscvh more often than at any other residence? I suppose you can be the judge....HAPPY READING!
Rating: Summary: Man Was I mad. Review: I was prepared to give this book a 1 star after finding out it was fiction!! Have I been "Blair Witched" again. Yes! We all have. So I took a day to let it all settle and re-think my position. I've read the book in a couple days,it held my full attention, and was very easy to read. So the 4 star rating. But man was I let down to find out it was fiction. It figures something so good cannot be real. I have no desire to go to the website now to read of the sexual exchanges of Sukeena,John, and Ellen, now that I know this will just be somebodys perverted fantasies.
Rating: Summary: Interesting....better than that mini-series! Review: The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red by Joyce Reardon is a good book. There is just enough innuendo and sex in it to keep you reading. I think that this book is a lot better than that flop of a mini-series. The book is made with old paper like material that makes it seem real.
Rating: Summary: Read it in 1 day Review: This book was great!! It was dark, suspenseful, spooky, outrageous...I read it in one day. It was a quick easy read, and very fun. Looks like it was written by Mr. King, although I have yet to watch the movie, which I will this weekend. It's a pretty straightforward story, but if you want something you can read and really get into, READ THIS
Rating: Summary: "You can fool some of the people..." Review: A light, fluffy book perfect for a medium-long plane flight. More enjoyable than several of King's recent "real" novels, it is not at all clear who actually wrote it. Although the ideas in it are very King-like, the writing seems somehow softer and les graphic than King's and I suspect that it may have been written by someone else in collaboration with King. But by far the most amazing and interesting thing about the book is to follow the link given in the book which points to a working web site that purports to be that of the college that "Professor Reardon" works at. It's cute but is obviously not a real university site (all of which use the .edu domain). However, that has not stopped dozens and dozens of extremely gullible and not-too-bright folks from writing reams of e-mails arguing about whether the Diary (which was originally published without Stephen King's name appearing anywhere) and the movie itself (!!!) were real or not. Apparently, many do. Get the book. Follow the links to related sites and see for yourself. Well worth the price of admission.
Rating: Summary: Saw the Movie... Review: I saw the mini-series on "Rose Red" and can't wait til I read the book. Hopefully, it will be as good as what I watched on TV...
Rating: Summary: Spooked!! Review: I, too, had to put this book down and search for the answers to who was behind it all. "Woe be to anyone, anywhere, at any time who violates the privacy of these pages. May a curse be upon you." That was all it took for me to put it down and find out all about it! It was very fun to read and very scary at the same time. I read it in record time and now I will run to video store and rent the mini-series. Stpehen King is the master of spook!I'm almost glad that it was all in fun. I wasn't ready to be cursed!
Rating: Summary: Boring as hell Review: The whole story from beginning to end was pretty uninteresting, and didn't add much to the TV miniseries. I had to force myself to read the entire thing, hoping it would get better. Not worth buying at any price.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's touch Review: "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" in the early, hardcover edition was placed on the non-fiction shelves of my local library, before it became apparent that this book was part of an elaborate marketing device involving a tv miniseries by Stephen King. The book is a well-written, gripping thriller of the haunted house genre. It appeals to the bodice-ripper-romance women's market, although it is crafted several notches above the average in that niche. Stephen King's touch is apparent, although reading this work did not give me bad dreams as many of his novels have done. I stopped reading them for a time because of that effect. "Diary" is finely spun, a cotton-candy treat of a suspense novel.
Rating: Summary: Not a edge of your seat page turner, but a good read. Review: Very good story, interesting charters, but not as good as the movie. The end of the story is lacking, there is no climax, but it is worth taking time to read.
