Rating: Summary: King's masterpiece gets even better... possible? Review: Stephen King is well known for writing long, long, long books. Books that, despite their length, keep you up late at nights, awaiting the end with both interest (because he sucks you in) and sorrow (because you don't want these great stories to end).
Occasionally, the reader can tell when King's editor didn't have the heart (or the stones) to do some serious slashing. "IT" is a good example; decent book that would have been much, much better if it had lost, oh, 30% of the material within.
This version of "The Stand", however, is without a doubt King's grand masterpiece. It has only gotten better with the addition of several hundred pages of material that was cut from the first print version of the book.
"The Stand" is probably what the "Dark Tower" series could have been; King's defining work that will be studied and joyfully read for generations and generations to come. Well, eagerly read, anyway- it's a bit hard to read about the end of the world with joy
Rating: Summary: Stephen King fans: Action from Page 1 to the End. Long, but Review: King's finest. TV version in no way did The Stand justice. Many interesting characters, but you get to know them like relatives or neighbors. You want to write King and ask how so or so is doing. They are real! I am a Stephen King fan; but The Stand spoils all his other great works.

Rating: Summary: This may very well be Stephen Kings best book. Review: Imagine a virus relased upon the people of Earth in a freak "accident" that wipes out all but a few survivors who are used in as pawns in the never ending strugle between evil, "the Devils Imp" Flag, and good,God himself. Stephen King out did himself in writing this excelent book that will captivate everyone who loves books, and most that don't. This in my own opinon is a book that can not be matched by anything this century, and more than a years before it. All and all this book captures every emotion know to man from lust to love, humor to horor, and back
Rating: Summary: King's best work. A true American classic. Review: The Stand is not only the best book by Stephen King, it may very
well be one of the greatest novels ever written. This book
is a must-read for anyone interested in truly magnificant fiction.
King's apocalyptic vision of a disease wiping nearly all of the people off the planet is as good as it gets. King explores
the themes of: the ravages of modern technology, love, hate, good vs. evil, religion,
racism, mental illness, nuclear war, and others in his modern masterpiece. This is the book that will live on long after King has finished
his glorious reign as the master of Modern American Fiction.
Read this book now!!!
Rating: Summary: Stephen King's "The Stand" Review: A bit legnthy, but the plot is one that we've all thought about at pne time or another. King brings the problems of the world into focus when a virus escapes a containment area in California, and makes it's way across the world. The population is now 1% of what it was, and the survivors are trying to live, love, and try to understand why they were the ones picked to live
Rating: Summary: Frightening and believable! Review: Stephen King shows his mastery of horror in this book. When
reading The Stand, you are drawn into the book, almost as if
you are experiencing the events yourself. This story is completely believable and that is what makes it so scary! King is pro at writing stories where the situations are so
true to life that you just _know_ that somewhere, sometime,
this is going to happen!
Rating: Summary: It is about the truth. Review: I have read this book over 7 times. Each time after the first in one sitting.
If you cherish life, read this book
Rating: Summary: Stephen King At His Best Review: Stephen King excells himself in this beautifully written
book.The intricate story-line is a sure page-turner.
Rating: Summary: It's only a cold! Review: This epic needs to be read by everyone! Even if you are not
a Stephen King "fan" you will be drawn into this one! The thing that is really frightening about this tome is the fact
that it was written before AIDS had yet appeared on the horizon! To know anything about science and the human body and disease will certainly make the book that much more believable and scary!!
I was truly drawn into the lives of Frannie, Stu, Harold and the rest of the gang as they chose to either follow Mother Abigail or Randall Flagg (aka "The Walking Dude"). This book didn't just scare, but gave readers a look into the spiritual world that surrounds us. I like to think of "The Stand" as a very dark yet deep "Wizard Of Oz"! Truly
a feast to be read again and again and again! The movie on
television came close to capturing this great novel but it truly could not be totally done justice. Read it! You'll never be the same!
Rating: Summary: Good versus Evil Review: This book was superb. Scary, thought provoking, at times tender and romantic. It had strong religious/moral questions for the main characters and for us as well. People come from all over America after it has been hit by a nuclear disaster. The few people here and there band together and travel to one commom land summoned by an aged blind woman with visions who talks to Jesus. They follow her guidance and prepare to take a "Stand" against Evil. The book is unforgettable and the stuff that classics are made of. Surely King's best
