Rating: Summary: TRUE HORROR Review: The Stand took me months to read, but I loved every minute. Stephen King provides such detail that I knew all the main characters and can remember much about each of them. This book is so wonderfully scary, because of its possibility to come true. This could happen. We (humans) are so curious about finding ways to kill others. I could see this happening, who knows if it is happening right now. The ending was frustrating but could be the opening to a wonderful sequel
Rating: Summary: HIS BEST BOOK!!!!!!!! Review: KING'S BEST OFFERING IN HIS WHOLE WRITITNG CAREER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A book to rival the heavyweights of the world's fiction! Review: The Stand. A place to make your intentions known and to take full responsibility for them.
Our government, through science and technology, manages to wipe out 90% of the human population. Good and Evil manifest themselves in two of the most unlikely characters: one a drifter with a more than an unusual past; the other a hundred and eight year old black woman.
Building to one of the greatest climaxes in fiction history, King reveals the flaws and impurities of evil right beside the glory and overwhelming justice of good. Beautifully told and written! This book magnifies the King writing style to it's fullest degree
Rating: Summary: Knocked me on my butt!!! Review: This book is possibly the best book I have ever read and probably ever will read. It takes you on a journey through the heart and soul of america, yourself, and the people you will come to encounter in this awesome book, it explores all your deepest fears and forbidden dreams. It will have illiterate people turning pages faster than you can say "hooked on phonics". It will also have you in it's death grip until the climactic and heart wrenching end! When ........
well you will just have to read it for yourself and find out, and unless you are blind it is on sale right above this review at an astonishingly low price might I add. So please by all means read enjoy and be terrified
Rating: Summary: epic story of disease of the human mind Review: While projecting his magnum opus ten years in advance, and even referring to it as his "own Vietnam" in terms of his struggle to finish this, The Stand, even though it technically has already occured, is a masterful blend of terror, intrigue, mystery, and redemption that seems as timeless as it's pitting of good versus evil. Many words could be used to describe this, but I think the one that best describes this book is spirit. The way the story unfolds is a bit daunting to understand at times (as pointed out by Douglas Winter, he often leaves tantalizing strings of narrative and then forgets about them for many pages, suddenly finding them again). This can be frustrating, but I think the scope of this exceptional novel more than makes up for any problems presented by the plot. Excellent; a must read for any King fans
Rating: Summary: tremendous Review: It's been years since I read this book, but it still is one of the best I've ever read. King transcends his typical 'let's create monsters' formula to pen an epic story of human nature. Is there anyone who hasn't considered what would happen to society after such an appocolyptic event? The character of Nick was beautifully drawn. I still feel the pain over what happens to that character. Read this book. It's not quite like anything else I've read
Rating: Summary: King's best. Dramatic expose of Good and Evil. 6 Stars! Review: Story of good and evil. For King fans and others it is definately a must read again and again. Characters are brought to life. More than comparablre to "Lord of the Flies.
5***** reading
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read!!!!!!!! Review: THE STAND was the first Steven King novel I ever read. After that I vowed to never miss another story he penned. His characters are so real that I wept as my favorites died one by one. His use of biblical quotes and rock lyrics to emphasize the fight between good and evil in a final confrontation is ingenious. I have recommended this book to everyone I know who enjoys reading. I did feel that he could have cut the end (everything after the climax in Las Vegas) to less than 5 chapters. That is the only time during the entire novel that I did not mind putting the book down. I also enjoy the GUNSLINGER series because they are similar in many ways to THE STAND. I have waited patiently for a long time for WIZARDS AND GLASS and am elated to hear that my wait is almost over.
Rating: Summary: Stephen KIng can only go downhill from here. Review: This apocalyptic epic about the dark and light sides of Christianity is unbelievable; difficult to grasp as a novel written by Mr. King more than a decade ago. It is still realistic and comprehensible to this day. I read this book during Christmas vacation over a course of 8 days. I have not read the first edition, with several hundred pages cut from the manuscript, but I can not imagine The Stand without characters like the Trashcan Man or The Kid. My favorite character was probably R.F. I also liked Stu and Tom Cullen, and look forward to seeing the movie
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece of apocalyptic terror!! Review: This has to be one of the best books ever written by Stephen King. It is truly a terrifying view of mankind's final chapter. Stephen King has truly defined the biblical dichotomy of good vs evil in the modern era. The television version was also gripping, edge of your seat stuff. I highly recommend not only The Stand but also King's short stories Nightmares and Dreamscapes. A must read for all horror fanatics everywhere
