Summary: Picky, picky, picky
Review: In a world of ever increasing redundancy, we need yet another review stating that The Stand is a great book. I therefore add my bytes to the gig or so out there saying that this book is worth several reads. However, I wanted to pick a small nit. In the first part of the book there is a scene in which Harold siphons gasoline from an underground storage tank. His technique is later admired by Larry Underwood, and presumably fuel is siphoned in a similar manner whenever the characters in the book need it from the reserves on hand. The problem is, in order to siphon, the destination container must be lower than the source container. In this country, however, gasoline is generally stored underground. The only place one would be able to siphon gasoline to from one of this tanks is a lower place ... underground. Gas would have to be pumped out of such a tank. Oops. Still, a great book. I've only read it four times, and it was on the last pass through that I found this minor faux pas.

Summary: Apocalyptic story of human self-destruction and redemption.
Review: This is undoubtedly the most wonderful novel I have ever read. During my sophomore year in high school, while all of my classmates were disgusted with reading, I was engrossed in The Stand and its tale of good and evil. Years later,my copy is ragged with years of reading and re-reading. All of the deadly virus stories plaguing the media today(pardon the pun)are nothing compared to their inspiration. The Stand is not only a novel of the horrors men can create and the eternal struggle between good and evil, but also a novel of the strength in the hearts of man. The Stand intstills both feelings of fear and hope in the minds of the reader, leaving him with a sense of satisfaction. This is King's magnum opus, a tale to exist long after we have passed on.

Summary: Great disription of death all around you, the smell, fear...
Review: I experienced what it would be like if I was left behind in a world, that everyone but me died. Nothing worked anymore, the smell and rotting carnage, silence, isolation, fear, and then it got worse. I wasn't alone

Summary: First Stephen King Book I ever read - now addicted !
Review: The original version of The Stand was the first Stephen King book I ever read and is the reason for my addiction to King. I used to read it on the 4 hour coach journey from Dublin to Cork. The uncut version is even better. Typical nail-biting, riveting King stuff. I'm at present reading Desperation - if you haven't already bought it, get it NOW!!!

Summary: BEST NOVEL I'VE READ!
Review: I'm only half way through it (I'm 12 by the way) and I can honestly say it's the best book ever. This is the first King book I've read. This book is horrifing. IT COULD ACUATLY (forgive my spelling) HAPPEN! This is a classic good versus evil battle for all humanity. If it ends in a good way there should be a SEQUEL (got it Mr. King) to find out what happens to everyone now (I'm assuming) that the Walkin' Dude is dead. No matter what the cost you should buy it. Unfortnutely, I don't have the uncut version; I have my mom's 19-- version

Summary: Stephen King's finest work!
Review: I read The Stand when it first came out, and I have read it several times a year every year since! It is, without a doubt, one of the best books I've ever read. It is the work of a true literary genius. The characters are so real that I wanted to know what happened to them after the story ended. Actually, I didn't want it to end! I found myself really caring about these people. The story was brilliant and it kept my attention the entire way through. I have a hard time putting down just about any book I'm reading, but I almost could have killed anyone interrupting me while I was reading The Stand! It is now, and always will be, my favorite book. Wow, all this talk about The Stand has given me the urge to read it again

Summary: Worth every page.
Review: The best book I have ever read. It is a bit lenghty to say the least, but worth every minute spent reading it. King is the best at developing characters, and these are his best

Summary: The ultimate tale of good vs. evil.
Review: The world is devastated by a deadly virus that escapes from a United States military base. Almost all of the world's population of human beings has been completely wiped out. However, some remain. Several thousands of people have found themselves to be immune from the terrible virus. These people become called upon by two forces. One, Mother Abigail, an old God-fairing woman in Colorado, who calls on those who are left by way of dreams and nightmares. The second force, Randall Flagg, a man who stands for order and a specific way of life. His mission, kill all of those who do not believe in his ideals. This book follows the amazing journey of a select group of people who must face and destroy the evil being known as Randall Flagg; they must make a Stand.

Summary: This book is excellent. The finest book King ever wrote.
Review: When the movie came out in May of 1994, I loved it. Since books do more justice to a story, I decided to read my copy that had been sitting on my bookshelf for three years. I was not disappointed. Each of the characters grabbed ahold of you and immersed you into their thoughts and experiences. Mr. King did such a good job describing each character that I felt I knew each and every one of them. I even liked the evil characters, including the goverment officials. The story was very original in itself. I have never read another story that even came close to competing with it as far as originality, plot, character involvement, etc. I am now reading the book for the third time, savoring each page like a fine wine. The story is about a lethal government experiment called Captain Trips, or the superflu that was accidently set loose. The flu swept through the world, killing 99% of the population. The five protagonists, Glen, Stu, Larry, Ralph, and Frannie have the same dream about an old woman that was supposed to be a "magnet" of good. They also had dreams of the Walking Dude, who was the "magnet" for evil. The other characters depicted in this book were drawn to either magnet. Everyone set out on a trek to find their leader, and the battle of good versus evil commenced from there. My particular favorite was when the community of Boulder got together to rebuild their community. However, I felt disappointed when after Harold and Nadine's betrayal, they went for each other's throats. I wasn't disappointed in the story, but of human nature. The ending was very good. I won't spoil it for future readers, but will hint that it was bittersweet. Mr. King's portrayal of human nature is chilling. This book is a mustread
