Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: I first bought this book... 3 years ago, after seeing the movie. I was in 7th grade, and it was March. Early march. I was done with it in a month. It was the longest book I have ever read--hell, its pretty hard to beat something this long, isnt it? (I think "War and Peace" comes close, and The Bible is the only one witha REAL edge). Now, after reading it countless times and toting it everywhere, the front cover (the one advertising the ABC Miniseries) is partly gone, and wholly held together (and lamenated, I guess) by clear packaging tape, as is the back... plus the last 70 pages. The book is falling apart.. but I can't bring myself to get a new one ...It wonderful. And scary. You feel for the characters--hate, pity, remorse..love(?)... Sometimes a dim understanding of what turned them to the dark man. And you wonder just what would happen if they really DID screw up out there in California, 'neath that rolling sea of dunes...
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE!!!1 Review: When I first started to read this book, I had just finished reading "The Shining," which I thought for sure was the best book I ever read. I was wrong. "The Stand" was even better. It had a terrific plot and an amazing, yet scary story of something that is totally possible in our crazy world. The best part of the story is the unforgettable characters only Stephen King could possibly think up.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: This book is the best I've ever read. It has a bit of everything and makes you shudder as you read about what could actually happen with biological weapons. I recommend this book to anyone who has the guts to read it.
Rating: Summary: Right up there Review: One of King's best. Masterfully scary in the beginning (because of the fear of the possible) followed with wonderful allusions to very personal events. The events to which I refer are the sub-plots; the way survivors are forced to co-exist. I particularly liked the story because the whole time I was reading I was embedded in the "how would I handle that plight" mode. I was completely engrossed in the realism of different characters acting so "human" with heroes and slackers interacting and, ultimately, facing-off. Not since "It" have I enjoyed the characters more than the story as a whole.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK I AM READING IN MY SECOND COPY AND THIS MAKES THE 12TH TIME. I USALLY DO NOT LIKE SK LONG NOVELS BUT THIS ONE JUST HOOKED ME THROUGH THE NOSE FROM THE START AND I LOVE IT!!!! I ALSO LOVE "IT" AS WELL BUT THE STAND IS THE BEST!! I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMEND GETTING THE COMPLEAT AND UN CUT VERSION THOUGH.. THE CHARACTORS ARE MUCH MORE REALALISIC IN THIS FORMAT AND THEY ARE SO VIVID AND BELIEVABLE.I LOOK UPON THIS BOOK AS A MORDERN DAY "LORD OF THE RINGS" OR QUEST STORY OF OLD. AND JUST AS A SIDE NOTE THE MOVIE WAS WONDERFUL AS WELL BUT PLEASE READ THIS BOOK BEFORE YOU RENT IT AGIAN YOU WILL PICK UP ON SO MANY LITTLE THING THAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED ON BEFORE!!!
Rating: Summary: One of Stephen King's better books. A definate MUST READ Review: I decided to read the Stand after watching the movie (which I loved) because I feel that in order to get the full picture of any book made into a movie, you have to read the book!!! To my surprise, I found a beat up-well-worn copy in my parents basement. I COULD NOT put the book down despite it having 1000 plus pages. The story of Captain Tripps and how it spread across the US captivated me. I felt relieved to find out that the movie was almost an exact replica of the book, and the characters that I loved both were well represented (Nick, Stu, Fran, Larry...some of the characters). I think everyone should read this book because you will find it a good, interesting read. The only thing that I was left wondering about the book was that what happened to the rest of the world? Was this only a US contamination or did it spread among the other countries of the world. I think it would be great if Mr. King could sort of write a sequel maybe to answer this question as well as to continue the story of the people that were read about in the Stand.
Rating: Summary: wonderful, kept me up for a week the first time Review: Wonderful. I have read it 13 times. Stephen King's best book ever. and I have read them all.
Rating: Summary: I Loved It! Review: The Stand is a haunting book that dares to defy man's normal view of the end of the world. I have read several of Kings books and loved everyone, however this one is more than just a scary tale. Its a chilling vision that deals with the human monster, and how it is just as deadly as anything that lurks in dark corners.
Rating: Summary: Definitely King's Best Review: I read the uncut version for the first time during a trip to Las Vegas, fittingly enough. It is King's best novel. I read the original in the early 80's, and I think the additional material enriches the novel, especially during the first third as the world sputters to an end. A good book for non-King fans to read.
Rating: Summary: A very detailed and compelling story. Review: I think this is one of the best books I have ever read. I really enjoy the story of how everything came together. I loved learning about everyones past and what happened to them along the way. The only thing I did not like about it was that it had to end. I would love a continuing story into the lives of Frannie and Stu, and everyone elses.
