Summary: Great Characters
Review: The more I think about this book, the more I like it.

The first 200 pages were the best in the whole book, detailing how the disease spread and society's reaction to it. After that the book changes tracks big time.

Yes the book is 1200 pages and yes, there are some slow parts. But those slow parts aid in character development which is where this book really shines. I will usually take a good plot over good characters, but this book is an exception. After the first 200 pages the plot deteriorates slightly but the detailed, interesting, believable characters almost make up for that fact. And unlike so many other authors, King isn't afraid to kill off a main character to keep us guessing.

A minor annoyance that I experiences was that because of the sheer amount of characters (and their different locations), this book tends to jump around a lot, which I found slightly frustrating at times. However, I don't know if it could have been helped.

I have had dreams about this book the week after I read it. It stands (no pun intended) as my first Stephen King book and I will probably read more of his work.

Summary: Easily my favorite book; and I don't worship King.
Review: _The Stand_ is a fantastic read; enormous in scope and rich in imagery and dialogue, easily King's magnum opus. The plot and all characters are fully realized; it's a book that can suck you into it's world with little effort on your part. If you haven't read _The Stand_, regardless of whether or not you're a King fan, do so.

Note- I prefer the "cut" version, if you can find it- I've read both probably 6 times each or more.

Summary: OUTSTANDING WORK!!!!
Review: i just couldn't put it down...and every time that i tried i was left wondering what would happen to them. The way king gives the characters such depth makes you want to read every one of his books. I've seen the TV movie and let me tell you, it does not do the book justice..i found that after i read the book and saw the movie..i felt like turning the thing off. so if you havent read this book...read it...but dont see the movie!! and if you've seen the movie and didn't like it..read the book anyway because it's sooo much better.

Summary: The best book King has written.
Review: I have read about 15 of King's works and this one is the best. You must read the uncut version in order to experience the full impact of the story. I could not put the book down. The book is long, but you get so wrapped up in the story, you wish it were longer. A definite read for any King fan or anyone who wants to read a fantastic and engaging story.

Summary: The Stand is the greatest book of all time
Review: The Stand was one of those books I picked up and I didn't want to put down. I was sitting on my bed, reading along, I was so absorbed in it that when the telephone rang it startled me and I thought, 'Oh my God, I'm the only person left in the world, what am I going to do?'. The characters were realistic and powerful. It seemed to me that they were truely alive, struggling to defeat Flagg. I loved this book and I think it's the best book King has ever written.

Summary: Fantastic Book!
Review: Stephen King delivers in this tale of the final battle between good and evil. great characters fill every page ( my favorite is Tom Cullen) and well drawn scenrios combine for a great book! My suggestion, write a sequel titled " The Stand: 20 years later."

Summary: an *entertaining* *american* *novel*
Review: For people who don't like books that ignore the rest of the world, don't read this. This is a book about America and our problems, about individuals and their problems. This is a character-oriented book, as most of Stephen King's work is. That's why I love him -- he provides interesting stories *and* interesting characters. Certainly there is room for disagreement. But read the book anyway. You will most likely love it, and if you don't, you'll at least know why!

Summary: The best ever...M.O.O.N that spells the BEST EVER!!!!
Review: Stephen Kings master the art of detail. In "THE STAND", King develops his charaters with so much detail you feel, as if, you were on the raod to Boulder, Colorado. He makes you understand how evil can be so attractive to some in this world. R.F. just tell you what you want to here. The journey through the desert, throught the tunnel, back into the CDC, on thier way to Nebraska, then to Colorado or Ciabola, Kings vision is relentless he makes you see what is written on the pages. Some day this epic saga will be consider one of the best written works of all time. For me that day is now. If I never have the opportunity to read another book, I will alway have the memory and vision of this book. Try and think what would come after THE STAND. How would the world start over. Would they alway have electricity? For those of you who say I don't like horror book...THE STAND is not about horror. It about living and doing what ever it take to survive! . Good Reading and the next time you sniffle or start to have a cold,...you will think about this book.

Summary: Terrific! Makes you think twice about every sneeze!
Review: WOW!!!! I can't say enough good things about this book. It is simply extraordinary. If you're contemplating buying this book, but are scared away by the 1100+ pages, don't be. I read it in a little over a week. It's so good that you find yourself only wanting to read it, and not do anything else. I thought that just the premise of rebuilding after a super-plague wipes out 99.4% of the population was interesting enough. Then the whole good vs. evil bit just expands the story. This is one of the few novels I've read where I found myself wondering just what I'd do if I were faced with the same situation. This is the best book you'll ever read. BUY IT NOW!!!!

Summary: A great read, albeit with one slight problem
Review: The Stand is one of Stephen King's best works, and actually deserves more than 4 stars, but not quite 5. The only major problem I have with the book is how Stephen King seems to lose interest in the characters he has created at times. The book is at its best when there are fewer characters, because King can focus on each character in full rather than lose track of them. The death of one much-loved character (the most unique and best-developed one in the book, in my opinion) seems like a cheap way out, King's way of saying "I'm tired of figuring out ways to write him into the story. Ho-hum." The ending is also a bit of a copout, but still works pretty well. Just as in all of King's other works, he loses steam by the end. The first 850 pages are practically flawless, but his fatigue shows through in the final act. All in all, a remarkable tale that holds up quite nicely, even when it starts to stumble.

M-O-O-N, that spells worth your money.
