Summary: One of the best books I have read.
Review: I saw the movie first but I guess the impact of the plague didn't really hit me until I read the book. Plus, living so close to where to "good" people ended up is pretty interesting. It really makes you think.

Review: I bought this book because so many readers said it was great. Well, I tried but just couldn't. It was way too long and the good vs. evil battle is just a bit much. How many devil vs. god books do we have to read. It's such a boring overplayed subject and the characters are so Disney and predictible. It just rambles on and on and I realize that so many USA writers follow this type of format. I have to wonder what sort of education these SK lovers have had. This book made me think I wasted my money. It sure as heck didn't scare me.

Summary: This is the way the world will end
Review: SO COOL!!! This book is so freakin cool! This will happen some day--a virus will kill everyone except for a scant few at the deep end of the gene pool. King writes a compelling, monumentus story of good and evil set against the backdrop of a deadly flu virus---you get to love these characters!

Summary: Despite flaws, The Stand is an excellent piece of work.
Review: Despite my aversions toward long novels, this one managed to capture my interest every minute. Stephen King's nightmare world of a country decimated by a lethal virus is accurately portrayed and full of many realistic details. There are only three things wrong with the writing: 1. The weight and stability of a nuclear warhead was greatly underestimated. 2. The good guys never get to fight the bad guys, despite the "confrontation". 3. Trashcan Man would have either burned to death or died of dehydration before he made it to Las Vegas. I truly reccomend this book for anyone who thinks that Fort Detrick, MD. is harmless.

Summary: Incredibly interesting... just not that scary
Review: Stephen King's "The Stand" is, I believe, his greatest work. The superflu virus created by the US military is not really as realistic as it could have been, but necessary for the plot. Unfortunately, the book is not nearly as scary as it could have been, although the devil incarnate is a thrilling (albeit unusual) addition. It is fascinating watching King's interpretation of people's attempts to rebuild society after a near Armageddon.

Summary: Epic, and change
Review: Of King's body of work, there are numerous good stories. "The Stand," while not King's favorite work, certainly deserves the overused title of "epic." Surprisingly good writing and character management make the pages turn quickly. Perhaps the master of looking beneath the rocks of the human psyche, King captures all of the sticky details. "The Stand" rises well above the standards of pop fiction and may eventually be seen as an important work. At the very least, it's a helluva story and at the top of any list of apocalyptic fiction.

Review: Unless you are a die-hard Stephen King fan, this book is not for you. I found this book to be way too long. Although, to the King fan, this book is the typical. My favourite books by this author are CUJO, The Dead Zone and Misery; with Misery being my all-time fave !

Summary: Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: During the times when the world seems to be going crazy it is good to have a story that takes you to a world where nothing exist but a few people who can restart the world, so to speak. King let's us know that in his mind anyway there is a place where a child can play in the street without the worry of being kidnapped.I personally felt that mother Abigale was the hero of this story. She helped to bring the good people together and defeat the evil forces of the world. I only wish I had a mother Abigale to turn to.

Review: It was one of the best books I've ever read. After the first 200 pages I just couldn't put it down. It didn't end with an accident, and God just didn't manifest himself w/out warning and w/out reason. The ppl who said this obviously didn't get it. It's an excellent book, well worth the time and the money.
