Rating: Summary: My Favorite Book Ever!!!!!!!!! Review: In my opinion, this is Stephen King's best work ever. It has everything, drama, romance, and intense sorrow. It is a book that proves how weak the human race can be and then shows how we can be strong. In the words of Mother Abagail "We must make our stand" The final battle between good and evil is "the" apocalypse people have feared. In my opinion, Nick Andros is the best character. He proves his strongness as he makes his stand, despite his disability. I actually cried when he died, but his friendship with Tom crosses the ultimate border of life and death as he saves the Free Zone one more time.
Rating: Summary: AS GOOD AS IT GETS Review: This story is simply put, perfect. The characters are so real you will think you know them, the events, and obstacles they encounter will make you believe it is actually happening. You will be sad, happy, scared, excited. As long as the book is, you will still be sad it ends. The ending is a bit of a let down, but haven't we learned that is the case with Mr. King's stories. You will want to read this one again and again!!!
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Book Review: I've read this book about 12 times-have the video tape of the movie and have watched that about 3 times-read the original shorter version and then bought the longer version when it came out for the extra detail. A great story-the end of the world comes from a super plague-the stuggle of the survivors against the epitome of evil. This is Stephen King's best novel and the one by which I judge all of his other stories.
Rating: Summary: Man, what's with that ending??? Review: I'm a huge Steven King fan. I've read Firestarter, Salem's Lot, The Talisman, and now this??? The story begins wonderfully and is so until the last 200 pages of the book or so. A huge, apocalyptic confrontation between good and evil, and how does it end? Flagg (accidentally) creates the perfect outlet for God to use a warhead to blast both the really good and really bad guys from the face of the Earth!!! BORING! why couldn't it be more like Salem's Lot???
Rating: Summary: The Best Stephen King Novel Review: The Stand (Complete and Uncut version) was the 8th Stephen King novel I read. While quite unlike the normal King horror story - I found this story impossible to put down. DO NOT BE SCARED BY THE SIZE - the story screams along. The sub-plots; character growth and details are amazing. I read this book at least twice a year. I have never read the original version, and I feel with all the details I would be disappointed. If you read one fiction novel - this should be the one. It will hook you from the first page.
Rating: Summary: Terrific characters, sustained edginess - one of King's best! Review: This is the book to read if you want to vicariously experience the scary and strangely thrilling ambience of a post-apocalyptical world. Stephen King has taken the standard doomsday plot and used his unique writing style to generate a dark and eerie mood that draws the reader completely into the story. What really sets this book apart is the incredible cast of characters - the complexity with which King has fleshed them out makes them very real. It's easy to feel connected to them because there is so much one can identify with in both the "good" and the "evil" characters. I thought Randall Flagg came across as a very charismatic and charming figure - which actually made him all the more frightening because I could see how people who weren't really evil ended up joining his side. Though the book is long, I found it relatively fast-paced. My only complaint is that in the end most of the characters who survive are the conventionally good ones and who also happen to be, for that same reason, the least interesting. All in all, this was a very enjoyable book and definitely one of King's best novels.
Rating: Summary: **WARNING** Review: If you are a typical creature of the nineties, whose main artistic education comes from a 19" box, and therefore enjoys characters whose lives, problems, resolutions, and emotions can be summed up in half an hour or less, DO NOT get this book. You'll be greatly dissapointed. However, if you are looking for a classic in which the characters are carefully shaped, dissected, developed and believably presented and in which the plot is intricate and captivating, you'll be back to this site to give this book a 5 star review yourself. King not only has the guts to tackle a mammoth vision (the end of the world) but he has the skills to present it in descriptive, flowing format. Otherwise, if you want an end of the world plot microwaved and served, go rent "Armageddon". It's only about 2 hours.
Rating: Summary: The Stand: Complete and Uncut by Stephen King Review: I only need to say one thingL: READ THIS BOOK; it's like a drug. It's just so REAL! But unfortunately i have to say, that the film is'nt nearly so good as the book.
Rating: Summary: More than just another horror story Review: This book has been my favorite for many years now. I read it at least once a year, and it is like revisiting old friends. The plot, subplots, characters, and insights are among the best King has ever written. It is a gripping tale that stands the test of time. You will NOT be disappointed in this book.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME! Review: Wonderful buildup, excellent imagery and an apocolyptic climax. Beautifuly written with extrodinary care given to details. Couldn't put it down for the two weeks it took me to read it. This was my first King book and I was shocked by some of the images he put in my head. I actually got depressed when one of the characters died!
