Rating: Summary: Higher your standards and read!!! Review: This book is like Ali, the greatest! Stephen King's characters are so well described and analyzed that while I was reading I started to believe that Larry Underwood is a real singer, that Nick Andros is a real mute hitchhicker traveling somewhere in America. I just started reading leisurely and I am afraid that there is no other book that can compare with The Stand. The miniseries was fine but the complete and uncut novel is a non stop read even if you are not an avid reader. Also recommended by King: The Running Man.
Rating: Summary: My second favorite all-time novel Review: I thought I'd never read an endtimes novel better than Stephen King's THE STAND, which has been a personal favorite for years. But I just finished Glenn Kleier's THE LAST DAY, and want to share my awe with all King fans. LAST DAY is just phenomenal. It's VERY different. A hugely suspenseful and frightening story, filled with clever plot twists--totally surprising and unpredictable to the end. The conclusion jarred the hell out of me and I'm simply not able to get it out of my mind. If you love King, particularly STAND, you will Love Kleier's LAST DAY. My very highest recommendation.
Rating: Summary: the characters stay with you forever Review: I read many books and never remember any of the characters' names the next week. Yet I read "The Stand" four years ago and I still remember Frannie and Stu Redman and Larry Underwood and wonder what they're up to. This book is so unique because of its vastness. Instead of one main character there are dozens of characters from all over the USA. King's plotting is so gritty and realistic that you find yourself saying, "yeah, that is exactly what would happen." It's so moving because you imagine yourself as one of the survivors of the fallout.
Rating: Summary: STEPHEN KING IS THE BEST Review: IVE READ ALL OF MR.KINGS BOOKS AND,SIMPLY READ ALL OTHERS IN BETWEEN, SUCH AS JOHN SAUL,DEAN KOONTS,GRISHEM AND MANY MORE .THEY SIMPLY JUST DO NOT COMPARE.I READ THE STAND TWICE,AND WILL READ IT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE .MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS HE DOESNT PUT HIS BOOKS OUT FAST ENOUGH.I THINK HES THE GREATEST WRITER THERE IS .HIS BOOKS MAKE YOU ALMOST TO IMPIENT TO WAIT FOR HIM TO GET WELL AND WRITE MORE .......IF YOU READ THIS MR.KING WE LOVE YOU AND WISH YOU THE BEST...GET WELL SOON......TO OTHERS READ THE STAND YOULL LOVE IT.....
Rating: Summary: The ultimate tale of the end of the world Review: This is the greatest book I have ever read. It is a complex and intricate story of the end of the world, and of good vs. evil. The characters are so real (we really feel for Stu and Fran and really hate Flagg), and it is just good. As for it's length, I'm glad it's long. It needs to be that long to get the entire story across. It is an epic story, and it's beautiful and haunting. You must read this book. A true modern classic.
Rating: Summary: A good start to Stephen King Review: I asked my friend which Stephen King book he'd recommend if he had to read just one and he suggested this. My first King read was LONG but NEVER boring. I loved how he took me all over the USA, which would probably appeal most to travelers like me who've been there and could visit again in their minds. Excellent!
Rating: Summary: The Stand is a novel that can leave the reader speechless! Review: The Stand is a thrilling novel about what human kind could be like if it came close to annihalation. After a plague wipes out 99.9% of humans the rest have to band together and recreate society. It is an interesting science fiction twist to what could happen after the near end of humans.
Rating: Summary: Almost more of a modern fairytale than a horror story Review: While it never escalates to the levels of terror attained by "It", and its not as much fun as "Gerald's Game" or "Desparation", this is a strikingly original and vitally important epic for any of King's fans. Quite simply, you must read this book! It's exciting and harrowing and the modern equivalent of a Brothers Grimm fairytale. Read it! (And, as with all fairytales, try to ignore the errors and failings of the book--specifically that King forgets the rest of the planet outside of the Americas.)
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE ! Review: I have been reading Stephen King since the age of 16, and I have been purposefully leaving "The Stand" until last, and it has certainly been well worth the wait. It is without doubt the best horror book ever written. The building of characters was superb, and the adrenaline it maintains throughout is astonishing. The main characters of Stu Redman and Larry Underwood, and not forgetting the one, the only Nick Andros where one the same par as T.S Garp. I thought King had provided the ultimate with Classics such as It and Salem's Lot, and I was constantly impressed by more recent novels, especially Insomnia, but this went above the high expectations King has set in my mind. A mandatory read for everybody.
Rating: Summary: POSSIBLY ONE OF THE GREATEST STORIES EVER WRITTEN! Review: This book is the greatest novels i have ever read. i read it over the summer and couldn't put it down. the story is so real because it could happen. It goes so in-depth with the characters. Larry Underwood was my favorite character but the movie really screwed up "Baby Can You Dig Your Man." I thought it was a blues song. but anyhow the entire time i was reading it i kept thinking what songs would go with it good. Tom Petty and The Wallflowers would go good. I kept seeing Jakob Dylan as Larry. Please read this if you have any idea what real fear might be.
