Rating: Summary: A fabulous story. Review: While I feel almost any King book is great; this one has become my second favorite (the first being either of the Stands). What makes this book so good is the fact that it is a narrative from the point of veiw of the lead character. All I can say is for Mr. King to keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: hard to get into at first Review: I guess I took "a haunted love story", too literally. The love story part wasn't that strong. What was going on in the little town, the people, the little girl Kyra, those were the story's strong points. The Sara Tidwell episode bothered me a lot. Maybe I'm not a SK reader, or not ment to be one!
Rating: Summary: Far from his best work Review: I ordered this book before official release date and couldn't have been more excited to get it. I have been a fan for years but this was terrible. Please, just write book 5 of the Gunslinger story. Those books were great as were most of your others.
Rating: Summary: Great book for "King" fans Review: Some people don't like this book because it doesn't contain all the blood, gore, body parts, killer clown, and overall weird eye-opening scenes that everyone expects. I gave this book 5 stars is because I'm a 'King' fan NOT a 'horror' fan. There's a difference. People should love this book if you a King fan, but if you're a horror fan looking for some spooks that'll make you sleep straight as a poker at night don't bother. I like the way its written and I liked the story. I like Stephen Kings books not because of multiple bloodbath scenes, but his writting style. King fans get this book. Horror fans stay away.
Rating: Summary: Not a bad read if Review: You have the time to read the jumbo murmuring and blabbing book. Basically, it's just about a story of a writer's life suffered a sudden change after his wife died abruptly. Then he suffered a 'writer block' syndrome. He also suffered a male hormone clogging problem since before his wife died, they usually made lot of love whenever and whereever available. He missed his wife so badly and just couldn't resist from feeling his dead wife's presence every where he went. Just like Willy Lamb's 'I know this much is true,' both books are inappropriately and unnecessarily so overly written that made the plot, if there was any, so loose and diluted. But of course, if you're a housewife (not a housekeeper) or unemployed(or employed with an easy workload), you've got all the time in the world to read the beautifully crafted prose just to kill the time, then it's quite okay to give both a higher rating. These huge-and-thick-book writers are the worst enemies of the environmental preservation, slaughtered more trees indirectly than you could imagine and publishers should use recycled instead of virgin papers to print these kind books. The writers in this kind category should also know how to rein their fingers on the keyboard since they are now putting their words in the diskettes, they might totally forget and overlook how many papers would be consumed to print out and bind into a book later. Readers should also be aware that you might suffer 'Reader's Elbow' by holding these heavy books too long during reading. This is not a joke and should be taken seriously.
Rating: Summary: Classic King -great reading Review: Bag of Bones is one of Stephen King's best books in some time, and I read all of them, being a Constant reader and his birthday twin. I thought this was truely a haunted love story, much better than the disappointing "What Dreams May Come" by Matheson, which I was looking forward to. Some people have criticized the ending, but I think it is right. The book is well written, maintains interest and suspense. It's a thought-provoking story, as all of King's books are on some level. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Loved the "Fridgerator People"... Review: I have only read 3 Stephen King novels in my life, Bag of Bones being #3. The other two were Salem's Lot and Dolores Claborne. I don't care for Horror that much and was glad to find this wasn't that scary. It was an interesting read because it took almost all 500 pages to find out the actual meaning of all the goings-on...I found myself coming up with my own guesses several times in the course of reading it. I did like the little messages on the Fridge. I just wondered why the ghosts didn't just bang out their messages on the typewriter. (I guess some didn't know what a typewriter was!) I find myself glancing at my refridgerator to see if I have any spooks giving me messages....All in all this was a good Ghost Story and would make a good movie. Hopefully, SK doesn't have writers block and isn't sick of writing. Was this one of the one's he had in a vault for years?? I guess time will tell!
Rating: Summary: King is still King Review: Once again Stephen King has given us as much or as little as we wish to take. In his own unique way, he has left it up to us, the reader, to set our pace and make the story as spooky or scary as we want it to be. When will everyone realize he is the ultimate horror writer, because he leads us down the path only so far, then leaves us there to scare ourselves. Thank you once again, Mr. King
Rating: Summary: An intense, thought provoking ghost story. Review: I am an avid reader, King's recent addition blew me away! The quick changes, subtle scares, and very tragic love story (x2) make for a great read. I have read King for 20 years and although not all of his works are great, most are scary enough to keep me reading. This book is definitely a change and I can understand how some of his loyal fans may not appreciate the changes. For me, I enjoyed the change in pace. The characters are real, not cardboard. The mixture of love and horror make for interesting, almost intense reading. I hope to read more like this from Stephen King in the future. It must be true, that you get better with age and practice. I am only sorry that I read it so fast, maybe a 2nd or 3rd time are in order..... I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. However, for the ones that did not enjoy this book, perhaps a second read to pick up the nuances you missed the first time would help. It has been my experience that Stephen King is always better the 2nd time as there are secrets and hints you miss the first time.
Rating: Summary: Different yet familiar. Review: When you think of Stephen King, you think of the weird and more often than not, lots of blood and guts. This book isn't like that at all. In fact for the first few hundred pages, I thought this was going to turn out to be a fiction book all the way through. There is much emphasis on "humanness" and the normality of things that we do every day. I think that is what made this book all the more frightening in the and and it most certainly does get frightening. From the very beginning the plot twists and turns. You think you know where it is going, but in the end you have no idea as. The book slowly converts itself into a very mysterious and very scary ghost story. As is always the case with King, the characters are great. I liked the first person narrative style of this novel, it fit in very well with the emotion events that the main character had faced and his explanations of them. Additionally, Kyra, the little girl is portrayed very well. In this case, different is good.
