Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: While the first three chapters were indeed enthralling, certainly Stephen King isnt himself. Why say kinder and gentler, when its really rude and crude? I did however find some good points to the book, but I would call it BAG OF BOREDOM.
Rating: Summary: Probably his worst ever. Review: I love Stephen King. I read everything he writes and while I can't rate them all five stars I truly have enjoyed each of his novels to date. What a shock to read Bag of Bones. I kept closing the book and looking at the cover... Is this an Ann Rice novel? It started like King but unlike his other novels I was reading 3 to 5 pages a day instead of 50 to 100. It was becoming an effort. And then it got worse. Let's spend time developing characters, twisting them & then kill them off. Save your money. Don't buy this book.
Rating: Summary: .......please...someone...make...it...end............ Review: Why do people buy King's books? I own three of them, and learned my lesson after the second. King writes for $$$ only and his characters are flat, very 1-D, and flaky. Plus, King seems to have some mental problem. He writes about sex as if it were something that people talk about over dinner. Well, KING, it is not. He is not a good writer....so why is he so popular?
Rating: Summary: GRIPPING....KING FOR A DAY Review: This is the first Stephen king novel that I have read. I was a little in awe of the size, does he get paid like Charles Dickens' did- by the word? At any rate, it is an excellent love story, and I was really rooting for Mike Noonan--was slow at times, but I think there is a little something for everyone here....certainly worth the effort, but in all it's an effortless read and a helluva good story......
Rating: Summary: Amazing, One of Kings best! Review: Having read most of Stephen Kings books (not all but most) I would have to say this is among his best, along with all his others, I could not put it down, A must read for the smallest and biggest Stephen King fans
Rating: Summary: Gave me the Heebie-Jeebies Review: I like a lot of King's work, but this is his best in a long time. I could not put it down... almost as if Sara Tidwell herself made me read it. This is definetly NOT a book that one reads A. Home Alone B. At Night C. Home alone at night. Suspenseful, chilling and down right creepy. I found myself laughing out loud, crying and even got goosebumps. I'll never look at refrigerator magnets the same way again...
Rating: Summary: Please, no more "ghostly love stories" Review: Will the real SK come back and write the books that makes him the American icon that we all admire. You know the ones, "Carrie", "The Stand", "Pet Cemetary", "The Green Mile", etc. Yes, this book is a departure from his usual prose - more like two steps back.
Rating: Summary: A Literary Masterpiece... Review: This has been, far and above 1 of SK's most spectacular works. The fluidity, the growth, and the emotion brought forth in this novel is staggering. I read the first chapter online, (can anyone guess from where?), and it brought tears to my eyes. There are very few books/stories that affect me in any deep emotional manner like this. The story line its self was a usual for SK but just the same I'm honored to have read the book. The plot line is off set by the beauty of his written word. I can only hope to write half as well as Mr. King supplied us with in this beautiful story. Stephen King is a story-telling master. Kudos to you once again Mr. King; you've restored my faith in your ability again. I was afraid I wasn't going to like this novel very much, but I'm happy to say I was proven wrong. Thank you once more.
Rating: Summary: Crown him KING again!!!! Review: I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest Stephen King fan in the world. I've read most of the books because SK is a master at plotting, but his writing has been known to drive me crazy. Too much description, too little character developement. That said, can I just say that BAG OF BONES is amazing?!?!?! The critics are loving it, the fans are obsessed, and I'm ready to start over again at the beginning. King uses all forms of intertextuality in this book, and does so with style. Not just the references to REBECCA, but also BARTLEBY among others. These add a depth to the story that can not be gained in any other way. True mastery of the technique. And this book includes some of the most gripping scenes ever written. Rogette and the rocks, the dream sequence, and the picnic before the storm. Not to mention the final chase scene. Read this book. I'll end by saying, that aspiring writers (myself included) can gain a lot of knowledge from this book. Style, technique, tone. Not to mention that it's packed with references to the book industry and writing in general. Great work! Rush out, Enjoy it yourself, And then Distribute It To your Friends !
Rating: Summary: EXTREMELY MOVING, VERY EMOTIONAL Review: I just can't understand any negative reviews this book has received. It certainly is a departure from King's normal style, but is by far his best work in many years. King appears to be concentrating not on the horror of ghosts, mallet-wielding maniacs, or rabid dogs, but rather the more realistic horror of such things as loss, grief, and even love. My only complaint does not target this novel specifically, but rather his style. I wonder why King feels that it's necessary to end his stories on a very bittersweet note (i.e. killing a very endearing character). Yes, tragedy is a very real part of life. But happy endings are too, and it would be nice to get one from King every once in a blue moon. Still a very worthwhile, romantic novel with enough creepy scenes to satisfy readers yearning for the Stephen King of old.
