Rating: Summary: Haunting and compelling Review: I was a huge Stephen King fan until Needful Things. I got turned off to his work and haven't read anything by him since. But this book brought me back. It was wonderfully written. King really makes you care about his characters. It was scary, but most of all it was a tragic love story. As you read the book you come to understand the double, or maybe triple, meaning in the title, a nice extra touch. This book reminded me of The Dead Zone, which is more of a love story than a horror novel. I loved that one and I love this one too. I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Stephen King Is A Wonderful Storyteller Review: I saw Stephen King read at a church in Seattle he autographed the book, and believe me every aspect was worth the wait. Waiting for the book was probably the best part. This is my first King book since reading the Bachman Books in college and believe me, I'm back for more, I'm already reading the Green Mile. This story has everything, suspense, romance, violence and a king size jerk named Max Devore. Pick it up and read it.
Rating: Summary: Horror mingles with love in a can't-put-down yarn. Review: It's been a long time since I picked up a King book, having been thoroughly terrorized by the last one. However, the promise of a true love story overcame my reluctance. Once begun, it is impossible to leave the two worlds of the story's setting. The terror creeps up and surprises, but the storytelling is inspired and makes one keep turning the pages to unfold the mystery. Yes, it really is a mystery. And the secrets are not peeled away until the last chapter. Too vividly was I able to picture episodes with the ghosts, and believe that one could willingly stay in a house that appeared to be "haunted" as each psychotic event was experienced, examined, and made to seem quite real. A fine, good read!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Pure Stephen King! Review: This book is going to become a favorite. Unlike some of the books he's had in the last few years. This one is more like the old King. I have been an avid King fan since high school and while this book is not as scary as the Shining or as riviting as The Stand it is an excellent book. You find yourself turning the pages quickly tring to find out what the secret is in this town. You also want everything to turn out happy but you know that it can't. It is the best book I've read latly.
Rating: Summary: I thought it was a haunting horror story -haunting love Review: It started slow and then it grabbed you as all of Stephen King's books do and then when you come to the final pages, you hate to finish it, but you can't put it down. It was not a "go to bed with the lights on", like The Shinning, but you might need at least a night light.
Rating: Summary: A relentless page-turner. Review: As often as Stephen King has set stories in Maine, you'd might think that after a while you'd get a been-there, done-that feeling from his work. Fortunately, that continues not to be the case. Bag of Bones starts slowly and build a head of steam that becomes relentless. Its last 150 pages produces a roar in your ears and mind, that won't go away unless you keep ... on ... reading until the book runs out of pages. So why did I give it four stars instead of five? The characters -- living and dead -- are vivid. The story is first-rate, the twists and turns are sharp and even breathtaking. I can ignore the overuse of a certain four-letter word. (Really, Stephen!) But King does something to one of Bag of Bones' characters that made me very very upset. I won't let the bone out of the bag -- you'll have to stick your hand in there for yourself if you dare. I thought King could have written an end just as twisting and frightful if he'd gone another direction with that character -- a character you come to care about more than you realize until it is far too late. My advice to would be readers: buy the book. You have to read it. Just don't get too attached to any of the characters in the story. And Stephen King, if you happen to read this ... this is one fan who is seriously really peeved at what you did to you-know-who.
Rating: Summary: This is one of SK's best! Review: BAG OF BONES is the SK you really do enjoy. I listened to the book unabridged on CD and absolutely loved it! It's read by Stephen King, so that makes it even more fun. There are some truly creepy things that happen and also some very touching moments. This is definitely a good book for someone to read who hasn't read SK before and wants to know why we all rave about him so much. It was also great to hear the 32-minute interview with him at the end of the book. My favorite book of his is still "The Stand," but this book is easily among his best.
Rating: Summary: A very, very slow start, with a good ending Review: I would like echo the view of a previous reviewer that the first 100 pages could have and should have been torn out. It has to be the dullest thing Stephen King has ever written, punctuated with enough sex to make me wonder if the author is going through a midlife crisis. The last 20% of the book was a fairly good ghost story, but the first 80% drags so much that it was hard to engender much excitement.
Rating: Summary: King Does It Again!!!!! Review: BAG OF BONES was very good! It doesn't remind you of his "old style" such as CHRISTINE,CARRIE,CUJO, THE DEAD ZONE, but it was very good. I simply loved Kyra and her mother Maddie,as a matter of fact Kyra had me laughing so hard at work, everyone was looking at me. I found some parts boring, but all in all this was a great read and I recommend it to any King fan. I can hardly wait for his next one.
Rating: Summary: a good read Review: this is one of kings best efforts. i really enjoyed this book. he moved from the present to the past very well. i have to say, i am a very big stephen king fan. i would rank this book with the stand and it.
