Summary: I found "Bag of Bones" a slow read.
Review: Other reader's comments on this book are obviously a mixed "bag". If you had not read other King novels, this would probably be rated very highly. However, after reading "The Stand", this was a bit of a let down.

Summary: Great read. Best book in years.
Review: Although some may find this book too much on the romantic side - I felt there were many genuine scares. Its a very easy and fun read.

Summary: I couldn't put it down but I was dissapointed at the end.
Review: This book grabs you right from the start. It starts with a bang and King has you hooked. I couldn't stop reading. I couldn't beleive how the book ended though. When I got towards the end of the book I was sitting on the couch saying NO, I couldn't believe what was happening. I figured the guy had been through so much he might actually get a break but he was right back in the same boat he started in. Throughout the book King was so discriptive and it really made the book interesting but in the epilogue he just like he wrapped it up real quick. I wanted to know what happened to the characters that were left. I would recomend this book to anyone that likes horror books. All in all it was really an excellent book.

Summary: New Direction for King
Review: It's a good read. I too had trouble putting it down. King's weaving is so enthralling, I made my wife wait an hour this morning before we went to the store to finish it. Some of his books have dismal ends... (IT's A spider for god's sake.!!)

The Epilogue seemed to point to a negation of his own style. I expect that he will be trying new styles in future books. Still, I wish he'd get on with Dark Towers.

Summary: Absolutely great!
Review: I'm not going to give you a long summary of the plot or a nasty criticism of King's newest. However, I will tell you that King has once again captured the imagination that makes books so great. Yes, it has thrills and chills...sex and fun...and I loved it. The way he describes Noonan's dreams and thoughts...Just incredible. His writing is great (as usual) and the man just amazes me. He is such an incredible American author, and he deserves much more recognition than he has.

Summary: A book of unrealized potential
Review: "Bag of Bones" is a frustratingly uneven telling of a potentially powerful tale. If the hallmark of great work of fiction is the readers inability to stop reading then "Bag of Bones" fails miserably. The narrative lacks momentum and pace. If the reader can battle their way to the end, however, they will be rewarded with a stimulating and intriguing ending. If the entire book had been as interesting as the last 50 pages... we can only wish.

Summary: much more than just another ghost story
Review: I have just finished Bag of Bones, and was very , very pleased with the work. I see the book compared to various authors, so I guess I can add my own comparison: it reminded me very much of Peter Straub's Mystery and the Blue Rose in the complexity of the plot and the digging for information from the past in order to solve a mystery in the present. I think, however, that the mystery and ghosts were secondary to the importance of Mike exorcising the truly damaging ghosts of his own past and coming to grips with the hard reality of the world in which he has to live and function. I think that all good Horror, SF and Fantasy are morality plays dressed up to be more entertaining than a realistic novel. All of Stephen King's novels have important themes which seek to open the reader's mind, to incite awareness. (I can't say this about the short stories as some of them are just plain scary with no redeeming factors) I think Bag of Bones is well worth reading, both for those who are King fans and for those who do not usually read horror fiction. It is a book which kind of falls between mystery and horror, if you are one of those who consider ghost stories to be horror fiction.

Summary: BAG OF BOES is terrific--especially when read by SK
Review: I was very pleased with BAG OF BONES--and I've been a fan for a very long time! I always make it a point to get any audiobooks of SK's--especially if they are unabridged. Even better if they're read by him. BAG OF BONES was no exception. It was wonderful to hear SK tell the story and listen to the music that's included (I purchased the CD from Amazon.com)--and it was also an added bonus hearing the half-hour interview with SK at the end of the book. It's not his best (I'd still say THE STAND is--along with THE DARK TOWR series), or even the best audiobook (I really do recommend Frances Sternhagen's remarkable reading of DOLORES CLAIBORNE)...but this was the most-enjoyable non-TOWER King in years. It was great spending time on the TR was Stephen King--hearing him talk and hearing "Sara" sing.

Summary: A scary tale with depth
Review: I looked over my shoulder many times as I read this book alone in my creaky house--in broad daylight. Scary! I've read just about everything King has written, and Bag of Bones is one of his very best. The characters are well developed and the reader sympathizes with them. I hated for it to end.

Summary: An honest love story with a dose of the King Macabre!
Review: Just when you think King has written his best or his worse, he surprises you. This book, like Gerald's Game, dealt with the monsters within as well as the monsters without. It is a love story of the grand design. I only hope to love someone as deeply one day. It seems that King took the time to carefully construct each character. You could see these people walking down the street anyday. That's what makes this story so real. It's makes possible to love someone hard enough to come back.
