Summary: almost a chore to read
Review: Hey, I LOVE stephen king's books, but this was not one of the better of them. Extremely slow, lengthy, (hard to keep reading even though you know it's got to get better cuz it's King) start, say first 100 to 200 pages, even? Geez.... Middle was satifactory (how 'bout that rock-throwing-living-nightmare of a woman, Rogette?!) and it was just starting to hint of getting good between Noonan and the pretty young single mom (although her 3-year-old's verbal skills and vocabulary were way beyond/too mature for a 3 year old). But the ending was just way too ridiculous and far out, even for King, who's rigged up some awesomely satisfying endings. (By the way, the gang rape scene was too explicit..not necessary...show's poor taste of King, I thought...I think any woman would agree, King went too far with it if reading it left us women in near-shock, tears and almost vomiting from empathy and horror for what happened to Sara and her son that day.) Anyway, no where near King's best, but the middle was semi-enjoyable. Hope King goes back to writing the books where they leave me reading it 'til 3am and then I'm so petrified with fear I have to sleep with the light on.

Summary: Be prepared to stay up all night!
Review: I confess to being a very enthusatic constant reader of Mr. King's work, and Bag of Bones left me content. He coaxed my attention within the first paragraph and held it to the thoughtful end. Bag Of Bones has the character development that creates constant readers and a rich plot that keeps the reader's mind reaching. If some of Mr. King's more fantastic stories left you incredulous get your hands on this haunting tale that blends the things we know, with those we think about only late at night. I was reading Bag of Bones to relax before sleep, when I found myself checking closets, then reading in the vain hope that the author would let me off the hook. Thanks to Mr. King for a most rewarding 48 hours! If only I could pace myself...maybe next time.

Summary: A slow start...then a page turner..then disturbing
Review: I had difficulty staying interested in this book until Chapter 5 - then I couldn't put it down! A haunting story and well written. The book detours down some strange avenues, which make it enthralling. The ending was a little disappointing, primarily because of HOW certain characters died. That particular scene is a bit too graphic for my taste.

Summary: Stephen King rocks as usual
Review: I have been a long time reader of Mr. King, and bravo to him for bringing back the former home of IT Derry. I don't think that the gang rape was worth his writing though. As always though he brings the heros out alive, and the deamon is dead. Keep up the good work, Steve.

Summary: Novice King reader, now I'm hooked
Review: Never read King before Bag of Bones, but now I know why he's the master of horror. At first I found the book boring and rather slow; but that's how he hooks you and lulls you into a false sense of security! Suddenly I found myself so wrapped up in the haunting of Sara Laughs that I began to wonder if anyone is ever alone in a dark old house! This was the first book that's ever given me nightmares. The images are haunting and the resolution of the story exciting.

Summary: It lacked substance and excitement
Review: I am normally a big fan of King. However, I was not very fond of "Bag of Bones". It took 560 pages to tell a short story. The book lacked that certain fire that King normally has which prevents a person from putting down the book. The plot was so slow and mundane that I would put the Book down for weeks and not missing a thing when I picked it back up. This is certainly not characteristic of Mr. King's Novels.

Summary: Excellent Classic Stephen King
Review: I felt that in Bag Of Bones Stephen King recaptured the magic present in his earlier works, such as Carrie and The Shining. It's a love story from a male viewpoint (a rare treat) and is filled with suspense. To the lady who was offended by the rape scene: I don't believe it was the author's intention to degregate women. It wasn't for the shock value. I think it was to illustrate how vile the male characters were who mindlessly performed this act of violence. Art often mirrors life, and while rape is something that no woman wants to think can happen to her, it does. It's a brief scene, but crucial in my opinion, to bringing all of the events together.

Summary: not typical king
Review: i think my problem, as i started reading this book, was i had the impression it would very scary, with a lot of twists. it was a good book, but not what i had expected. i wanted the wife to be evil, conniving, with a dark secret past. it was somewhat of a let down. she was some goody-goody who unfortunately croaked before she had time to be an evil, two-headed cyborg who dines at human buffet tables. i wish he had gone into the story of sara smiles (the person) much more than he did. he barely scratched the surface. that in itself would have been a great book. it was an enjoyable read nonetheless, but a little dissapointing.

Summary: Best since The Stand
Review: Concise, not as far out as some King books. Interesting insight into the craft of writing. Much more readable than some of his other recent books. Tough to put this one down. If you're at all a King fan, this is a must read.

Summary: Stephen King: writing like it should be!
Review: If not Stephen King, then who else? What other writer could pull off a 500 page book that is a page turner from beginning to end? Bag of Bones was truly excellent. When King writes, he leaves no loose ends and always tells an enchanting story. Bravo to my favorite author!
