Summary: An awesome book, one of Kings best.I couldn't put it down.
Review: I am a huge Stephen King fan and I feel that this is one of his best books so far. I thought the story was incredible and all of Kings characters literally jumped off the page with life. This book is just one more reason that King is the BEST!

Summary: A Truly Frightening King Experience
Review: I also don't understand the bad reviews on this book. I have read all of King's material and although I agree that it is not His classic monster-under-the-bed, gory, horror, I feel that it is a new more subtle form of reach-out-and -grab-you, psychological, horror, and frankly I quite enjoyed it. Stephen King is a master and I'm sure there are many more dark, secret places like Sara Laughs hiding in that genius head of his. (P.S. Still waiting for the next Dark Tower...hint...hint)

Summary: Once again King makes you laugh, cry and remember.
Review: Rec. this book as a birthday present BUT had to wait FOUR weeks until exams were finished to read it. It was worth the wait. Once again King puts a child where no child should be...in the midst of hell. He librally sprinkles in the pain of loss, a dash of romance, some humor and adds a healthy helping of terror both past and present to the mix. What we end up with is a casserole of vintage King. Dig in and meet Mike and Jo- together but not. Max and Rogette- madness personified. Kyra and Kito two babies you want to protect but you know you can't and you are afraid of what will happen to them... after all you know King. Pay attention to the secret and special messages...see if you can figure them out. You will find that Kyra's cute little sayings will stay with you...kinda' like the "lobsterosities" Roland encountered in the Dark Tower series. We all have dust bunnies under our beds and just as I won't hang my feet off the edge of the bed now I'll NEVER use a dust catcher again! You have to read this book to understand. Don't pass this one up and if you DO... don't look under the bed. Give "Superstition" by David Ambrose a read. If you enjoy King you appreciate this writer also.

Summary: slow moving; not much of a scare
Review: This story of a man (Mr.Noonan) who loses his wife in death due to some ghost that haunts her because she is having a baby and her name starts with K is so dull. The story moved very slowly. The explanation to why his wife died did not exist. Many questions go unansewerd. I found myself at the end of the book anticipating some new found information as to how the ghost possesed somany people remained unansewered.

Summary: Arthritic Bones
Review: The premmise of a grieving writer coming back to a haunted cabin on a remote lake in Western Maine is a solid premise for a horror story. And King tees up this one nicely and seems ready to smack it fair and square down the literary fairway. But the story falls apart on two counts. Like many King novels, it could be cut by 15 percent. And as a longtime King reader, I'm bored by ANOTHER story pegged to ghosts lurking just beneath the surface of a small town. However, there are some great moments and relationships that carry the book. The writer's unrequitted love for a young, beautiful widow has grace and intriguing sexual tension. The texture of small-town life in Maine is realistically drawn. And there's an unforgettable scene where the writer struggles to stay alive in a lake as he's pelted with rocks by an evil woman on the shore. Nonetheless, by the end of the "Bones," the book feels arthritic and tired. The ending not only lacks punch, but it lacks a satisfying resolution. And the central cause of evil in the town -- the rape of a woman a century ago and coverup by the ancestors -- bares a resemblance to Peter Straub's much better Ghost Story. "Bag of Bones" isn't King at his worst. But discerning readers may find that this "Bag" is half empty.

Summary: Felt like I was losing my best friend when I finished it.
Review: First book I've been able to read in the past several years. Into the first chapter I was captivated and wanted to know more. Bag of Bones kept me thoroughly entertained night after night--I didn't even notice my teenagers turning in for the evening before me! Great book. Share it with a friend!

Summary: A wonderful read from Stephen King......
Review: I've read everything he's written - frequently out of curiosity since I'm from the city in Maine where he lives. Some books are too gory, too ridiculous. After Desperation I was let down. Wizard and Glass helped because I've loved the Dark Tower series. And now this. Bag of Bones was wonderful. I couldn't put it down and lost a lot of sleep while reading for 3 days. I hope King continues writing in this vein because the story was great, the characters were believable and the return to Maine while reading made me homesick.

Summary: A good King read, but not the normal genre
Review: Page turner? Not quite. Slow starter? A bit. Vintage King? Not at all. But was it good? You bet.

To be honest, this book reads a bit more like V. C. Andrews than Stephen King, but he still can craft the words better than just about anyone out there. He can also tell one hell of a story. The book takes the first hundred pages or so to get you locked in to Mike, the main character-- the next couple hundred to start getting spooky, then the final couple hundred to resolve, getting close to, but not quite all the way into horror-land. More than anything else, this story *is* a love story (like it says on the book jacket).

Still, overall, it's a good read. Not vintage King, but better than the dismal "Needful Things" and the not-so-great "Tommyknockers." It sated my appetite though, and now I think I'm good until the next Dark Tower.

Summary: I've seen better; I've seen worse from King.
Review: If there's one thing that's impressed me about King, is how LITERATE the man is. His writing has indeed matured since "Carrie." I was hugely disappointed in his last two novels - the quality was simply not there. But this time around, King zeroes in with two themes he seems so completely comfortable with: Maine and authors. (Perhaps because he can so relate to both. Duh.) The "horror" in the story bodes more of a horrible secret. The supernatural elements have been done before...and better. Like many of his recent novels, it doesn't really "get going" for at least a hundred pages. All those nits aside, he accomplished what he set out to do: give me nightmares. In spades. An engaging read for vacation time. P.S. Loved his commentary on his contemporary best-selling peers.

Summary: A must-read for Stephen King fans!!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Bag of Bones. While my favorite still remains The Stand (the original), this one is right up there. I love the way he pulls you into the story, just ordinary people in ordinary circumstances that suddenly take a left turn into that ZONE we know so well. I felt I could step right into the story and wish I could have during the "rock throwing" sequence. Thanks for a great ride!
