Summary: Some parts drag and others completely crank.
Review: The book is a bit wordy, but there are some very good parts. At times it is hard to put down. It has very good characters and was very enjoyable to read. Like other King books it has the jaw dropping shock of some completely off the wall scenes. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to any Stephen King fan.

Summary: I hated it. It twisted and turned and went nowhere.
Review: This is the first time I had read Steven King and I felt compelled to read it because it was a birthday gift. It caught my interest at first but I began to get very disgusted with it because it twisted and turned and went nowhere. Finally I got so fed up I put the book out of sight and I only had 100 pages to finish it but I felt it was a waste of my time.

Summary: King's move into Gothic horror
Review: I have been a King fan for years, although recenlty I departed from his genre to pursue more fulfilling writing. However, I think in Bag of Bones, King has shucked that "Big Mac and fries" style of writing for a more formal approach.

The book reads like a classic horror novel in places. Granted, he throws in the pop culture that we come to expect from him in places, but I bet in 100 years, this book will be listed as a great American classic novel. Some of the action in the end is pretty predictible, but it has to be. That is what makes the genre, and King does it better than anyone else.

King is an excellent writer. I've taught English in universities and professors have scoffed at him, calling him a barbarian with words. But, after reading Bag of Bones, I know King has full command of his writing skills. I think he put the peddle down on this book and crafted an excellent read.

Summary: How come I couldn't put it down?
Review: I read it in two sittings (once during the severest thunderstorm in recent Florida history -- Man! That was bad!)

A true gothic. All you detractors out there -- lighten up. Read it once again with a storm thundering outside your rattling window, and then pan it if you can.

Summary: A TIPICAL KING ?????
Review: I was very surprised about this book. Also a little disapointed. Where is our great master of horror? Of course, there are some very tipical and shocking parts, but at the end of the story you have to ask yourself- DO YOU REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK?? I like it but in another way I like It, Desperation and Shining. I even wondered about, how sentimental stephen king can be if he wants to. But what do you think did he enjoy to write this book?

Summary: Disappointing.
Review: I usually enjoy reading King, with this book I just keep waiting for the end. This book goes on forever and says nothing. There are moments of brilliance but it's painful to get to them. The characters are not very well developed, I've read almost the entire book and can't say I know any of them or want to. I think if the "romance" between Mike and Mattie had been left out, I could have had more respect for them both . Mike dosen't act like a man of forty, but a boy of fourteen! I don't think the book is "Bad", but I do wish I had missed this one. Anne and Steven please have mercy and bring the magic back.

Summary: Bought It, Read It, Loved It!
Review: Excellent, excellent, excellent! King does not disappoint here. In fact, it's the first book since Salem's Lot that has scared the wits out of me. My advice is to find a comfortable chair, wrap yourself in a blanket, and turn on every light in the house to read this one.

Summary: Stephen King superbly twists and turns into a new realm
Review: Being an ultimate Stephen King fan from the old days, I was leery of his venture into "romantic" horror. Needless to say, I was wrong in doubting the author's work. Stephen King is a master in the cloak of disguise when speaking as the romatic, forelorn lead character. I am amazed, once again, at King's ability to convolute the ordinary - and listening to the story in his voice and his inflections is the ultimate! Do not be wary about the author's diversion fom the usual in a Bag of Bones, it is well worth the trip and will satisfy all your Stephen King diehard expectations!

Summary: Great Read!!
Review: I've have been a Stephen King fan since I was a teenager and have read most of his books. This is a change from what he usually writes and it's great. I loved the way the main character was a writer, it made me wonder if King was writing about some of his experiences as a writer himself. (I wonder if he's ever had writer's block.)HA! HA!

Summary: Worst King since DARK HALF
Review: First of all, let me state that I'm a huge Stephen King fan. I've got everything, and have read most of it twice or more. This book will be an exception. One of the biggest criticisms I've seen leveled against King over the years is that his stories are too wordy, too full of tangental stuff, ("diarehia (sp?) of the word processor", I've heard it called.) I haven't agreed before, because he's such a good writer that I let him take me wherever he cares to. But this time, I have to agree completely. The first half of the book was flat out uninvolving, and when things finally started to pick up, they let back down again. The climactic confrontations were the least exciting ever in a King novel. I think back on DESPARATION, for example, and how each death of a main character tore me up. I didn't care about ANY of the characters, didn't shed a tear, and did not find it to be a "haunted love story" at all. I only cared that the main character had lost his wife on an academic level. I never felt his loss (as in PET SEMETARY, when you feel the loss deeply). Anyway, I hope this is just a temporary blip on King's career.
