Rating: Summary: A thrilling story of romance and terror! Review: Bag of Bones is partly inspired by the Daphne du Maurier classic, Rebecca. Stephen King's Bag of Bones, like Maurier's Manderley, is set in a scary old house, Sara Laughs, on Dark Score Lake. It tells a story about a forty-year old novelist, Mike Noonan, who is unable to let go of his wife, Johanna Noonan, after she died so suddenly. He begins to face a "block" and is unable to face the screen of his computer. At nights, he begins to have nightmares of his summer house, Sara Laughs, on Dark Score Lake. Despite his dreams, Mike returns to Sara Laughs, originally inhabited by Sara Tidwell and her family. Now the house holds a mysterious secret and is haunted by the lady of the manor. His Yankee town has changed because of a millionaire, Max Devore, who is determined to take away his three year old granddaughter from his young widowed daughter-in-law. As Mike enters the struggle, he begins to fall in love with the child and the mother. As he begins to get drawn into the mystery of the house, he comes upon the ghosts of men, women, and wailing children attempting to warn him. He also finds out information about his dead wife, Johanna Noonan. Either she had a mysterious secret hidden from the ears of those close to her, or there was a scandal lurking in the mists of Dark Score Lake. What was Jo's secret? Is she one of the many ghosts trying to warn Mike Noonan to "stay away?" What are they trying to say? Why has he been experiencing such gruesome nightmares? This novel contains outstanding visual pictures, as well as, horror and romance. "The novel expresses the obsessive voice of King's powerful imagination," says Amy Tan. King takes a mixture of reality and the paranormal to produce a story of love, mystery, and terror. I think the story unfolds the darkness of one's heart, and the decrepit forms evil comes in. King informs his reader about the dark secrets love can hold. King demonstrates this through the marriage of Mike Noonan and his wife Johanna. Although Johanna may have been seen as the perfect wife, she held many secrets from her husband. Max Devore uses his money as a weapon, and his weapon ends up killing him. He uses his deception to outsmart other people , but the ones who've been hurt by it won't let it hurt them again. This book was absolutely outstanding. It contain all the ingredients to make it a gripping and unforgettable novel. As Gloria Naylor said, " It's no secret that King is our most mesmerizing storyteller."
Rating: Summary: Captivating.... Review: I absolutely love this book.. I am an avid King fan and starting reading this book online, after getting the first two chapters I had to buy it, there was no I could let it go, I had to know what happened. I was entranced by the book, and while reading it I felt as if I was in the TR with the characters. I have always loved his writing, and I cant wait to read my newest addition, The girl who loved Tom Gordon.. Way to go Stephen.. keep 'em coming....
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly Boring, Vastly Overrated Review: After reading all the good reviews for this book, I picked it up ready for a treat. I've read all of King's books and most of them more than once. But I doubt I'll ever pick this one up again. I don't care how well the characters are written; if the plot is weak, it all falls apart. For me, the most exciting part was when the legal fight started heating up. But if I want that, I'll read Grisham, and anyway, that plotline was soon aborted. By the time the story ended, I honestly didn't care about any of the characters.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: I know, it's a cliche - yet still absolutely true. And I was absorbed right away - didn't have to force myself to read until I got caught up in the story. King may be "pop-fiction" but he truly is an incredible storyteller. This is one of his best.
Rating: Summary: NOT A FAN OF GORE, ONLY OF REALLY INCREDIBLE "MIND" TWISTS Review: i NEVER READ MUCH OF STEPHEN KING ONLY HEARING HE WRITES "SCARY" STUFF, I.E. KUJO, IT, PET CEMENTARY AND SO ON. I WAS PLEASENTLY SUPRISED BY THIS BOOK AND A COUPLE OF OTHERS I HAVE READ. I FOUND IT VERY INTRIGUING AND YOU HAVE TO "PAY" ATTENTION AS YOU READ TO UNDERSTAND(AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE) lol THANKS!

Rating: Summary: well, i liked it Review: i enjoyed this book. admittedly, it isn't his best work, but it is still a good book. really, with almost 500 reviews there isn't much that i'm going to say because the odds of anyone reading this... anyway, it's a good book. check it out.
Rating: Summary: King keeps growing up... Review: ...not to say that anything besides perhaps 'The Gunslinger' (Dark Tower I) was anything like juvenile... I mean to say that King continues to spend more time on the human and psychological side of horror and, this time, weaves it nicely into the supernatural side of things. Anyone who though the first hundred pages were boring, I suppose, likes only a limited amount of 'story' with their 'horror'. Myself, I cried, or would have if I hadn't been reading in a public place. Far from formulaic, although it does slide in that direction occasionally, this book keeps King, in my mind at least, firmly in the rank of Master Storyteller which he has occupied for quite some time (ever since I read Different Seasons, IT, The Stand, and the Dark Tower series and realised this guy doesn't just do blood, he does mythology.)
Rating: Summary: ahhhhhhhhh Review: Please, please, enough with the FIVE STAR reviews. That is preposterous. Read IT, The Stand, The Shining, Salems Lot and Pet Semetary. Then, I challenge you people to give THIS thing 5 STARS. King was a superb writer, for a while, he was in such a zone, it wouldn't be absurd to call him the best in the world. In the nineties his stories don't have the fire, the originality, the excitment, the horror...he's burned out. And it's perfectly understandable. NO ONE can maintain that level for 20 plus years. But you people saying things like "B.O.B. is his BEST EVER" are literally killing me.
