Summary: First King book I've read & it won't be my last...
Review: Finished this book in about two days--I don't like being scared and would say that this book only got scary when at the climax. In any event, I thoroughly enjoyed it--particularly the narrator's unending struggle to deal with the death of his wife and how the stress of that gets worked in throughout the story. Great read.

Summary: Imaginations evolve.
Review: I've been reading a few of these reviews, and quite a few are making me grimace. I've been reading King since I was eleven, and Bag of Bones is definitely one of the best novels he has written. Sure, I love his old stuff, but the fact that he can write a novel so different, so annoying to several fans, proves his unbridled talent. King's strength lies in Character, and their interaction with each other. He glows with more wonder than even Bradbury, and he doesn't suspend disbelief, he obliterates it. I've read mountains, and still, no author shines quite like King. "A mazer," as Tod would say.

Summary: Excellent novel.
Review: I'm not much of a reader and this book was read in a week. I couldnt put it down and would recommend it. It is a very intense novel.

Summary: One of King's best.
Review: Like almost everyone who's read his work, I am a Stephen King fan and have read most of his novels and published short stories. I thought that Bag of Bones was up there in the top 5 of his works. The storytelling is vivid and the plot twists exciting and (for the most part) unexpected. I enjoyed the lengthy descriptions of Noonan's dreams and fears. Somehow, the tone of this story was different from the apocalyptic undercurrent of "The Stand" or the simply spooky themes of "It" and the difference pays off. I definitely recommend this book.

Summary: Read Dead Zone,The Stand, even Carrie instead
Review: I haven't read Mr. King's work in years (I believe I gave up about the time of Cujo or Pet Cemetary when it seemed he felt it necessary to brutally murder almost every woman, child and/or animal in his novels) but someone convinced me to read this as it supposedly presented a marked departure from his usual adolescent gory ramblings. Although the book could definately stand a good deal of editing and although all the erotic dreams, etc. were annoying, what was perhaps the most telling is that King could not sustain the eerie, what-don't-see-is-more-frightening-than-what-you-do tone that he occasionally achieves-- particularly at the beginning of the novel. He descends into ooze, rot, decay, rape, etc. and that scene with the evil spirit at the end!--give me a break. And anyone who has spent any time with a three year old, however gifted, would recognize how ridiculous the character of the little girl appears--one minute baby talk, the next she's a teenager, the next a sage containing the wisdom of the ages. For all the readers who gave it a five star review, I suggest you read his earlier work, but perhaps even then you would not realize the precipitous drop in quality that his work has taken. I used to hope (15 or 20 years ago) that King would take on another genre and we would then be able to see if he had any real ability to do anything besides sell an enormous number of books, but that hope is gone.

Summary: Loved it ,Sugar
Review: Steven King is the master of descriptive writing. He has the most fascinating way of allowing the reader to see, hear, smell and taste everthing in his books. I often read his stories and wonder where it all comes from...but maybe I don't want to know. Bag of Bones is an amazing story of love, life, and the love of life - even after life. I had a tough time putting this one down.

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I read this entire book in one weekend--couldn't put it down! The characters were fascinating and the story was moving. Really touched me! I have always liked Stephen King and in Bag of Bones he has moved away from some of the violence and devilishness of some of his former books. I highly recommend this book!

Summary: He Did It Again!!
Review: No one writes dialogue quite like S. King. Though I prefer some King books over others, the dialogue is always first rate. He also develops his characters very quickly. The perfect example is the little girl, Ki, in "Bag of Bones." I could see this child with perfect clarity when our main character, Mike, first spotted her marching down the road with her cap on backwards and announcing she was "mad as hell." In this work his dialogue was exceptionally well written making me laugh aloud, anxious, etc. And I must wonder if Mr. King has had a major loss in his life as he seems to understand grief so well. It is a great book and surprisingly enough a haunting romance. Readers, it is well worth the time.

Summary: He Scared Me Again
Review: I stopped reading fiction about 1990. Before that, I had read everything available from Mr. King. A recent operation prompted me to buy his book, "Bag of Bones", because I thought I would be laid up for awhile and I wanted something to pass the time. Boy, was I surprised! After two or three jump starts at the book, I got into it and Hannah hold the door! My wife thought that I was posessed because I was so engrossed in the story.

At one point, I was alone in the house, and I had to look over my shoulder to see if anything was behind me. It was broad daylight and I am a wizzened old man of 45(scared like a child) That is what makes a Stephen King novel.

My family wishes him a speedy recovery from his recent tradegy.
