Rating: Summary: Good storyline once you get past the first third of the book Review: I listened to the audio recording of Stephen King reading his book, and have to say, although I was a little put off at first by his voice (he's not cut out for reading audio books, even his own, sorry but it's true), I gave it half a chance, and by the time I was on Cassette 5, I was hooked onto the storyline. Good ghost story plot, (couldn't wait to see what would be written on the refrigerator next!) and some great original plot devices. The meat of this book is in the middle; if you go in prepared for thin stale bread on the outsides, you won't be too disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Many tangents in this Bag of Bones; a pun, Mr. King? Review: Although the book is lengthy ( a good summer bargain), the many "Bags of Bones" introduced & given character here are well developed, albeit a bit strange -of course. I always enjoy the many allusions to other authors & their works; Mr. King needs to encourage young authors to follow his example of reading heavily first. I pity those who find this work wordy & boring since they obviously are not well versed in literature and miss much. We must wonder how much of this is autobiographical - deadlines & writer's block? I had not read King for many years since it was too disturbing to sleep - the sign of good fiction is to mimic reality- and I enjoyed the initial story as a simple mystery; soon I couldn't swimm or go into my basement. Mr. King, if you can stay off the highways, I hope to see more of this style.
Rating: Summary: Great story!! Review: While this was not the best Stephen King book I've read (that would be Pet Semetary), I really enjoyed this one. I read it while on vacation in Maine (O.O.B), and I had a hard time putting it down. As usual, the book was a little "wordy" at times, but not as bad as Insomnia. I recommend this one!!
Rating: Summary: i hope he writes more books like bag of bones great!!!!!! Review: the kinder more old fashion spook story sold m
Rating: Summary: Good Read. Review: I enjoyed the book so much I had a difficult time putting it down. I did get a bit lost with the characters, past and present, and with his descriptions while being in the "zone", but, nonetheless, enjoyed the book and am sending it to my nephew. I appreciated the fact that it did scare me a bit, but not so much that I had to keep the lights on!
Rating: Summary: terribly disappointing Review: I bought this book only because I was on an airplane coming home from Maine. I thought it was a good idea to read Stephen King's work again, and hoped that after seeing all the reviews about it, would be a pretty good read. But, like all King books, the beginning is pretty good, and the end is always disappointing. This is the last Stephen King book that I will ever buy. How stupid can one be to think that this is his greatest work? He tries so hard to sound intelligent, but in the end his prose is childish. If he can write and sell a book, every high school graduate should be able to do so as well.
Rating: Summary: This book was boring! Review: I kept with the book for as long as I could thinking something surreal was going to happen. I have never read a StephenKing book until this one, and I was totally disappointed. I will read one more as everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
Rating: Summary: I felt it! Review: It was a great book. It got me thinking about my death. I could not put it down. It make me want to live every day to it's fullest with my lover. You never know when the end will come. ( It may be tomorrow? )
Rating: Summary: This is the Stephen King that we remember. Review: He's back !!And his old self again. This Mike Noonan was exactly how I envision Stephen King. The Book and story was just like his earlier works that drew me to him in the first place. Mattie and her Daughter are the sweet innocents and perfect for the story. I liked the filler charactors that made up the three stories in one. You have the past-Sarah Tidwell, the present his recovering from Jo's death and the writers block and the future--Mattie and her child .I gotta hand it to King he never skips a beat and you don't get lost and have to back track. Everything flows and keeps you in suspense. I couldn't put it down.l I Loved it. It was great. Welcome back Stephen.
Rating: Summary: Familiar Review: Stephen King's fans are bound to love this book, especially those who have hailed his recent work, which this one resembles: it's long, it's wordy, it repeats earlier themes (and plot devices), and it's chock full of Maine stereotypes. Some readers undoubtedly find this charming but I prefer the compactly-written "Salem's Lot" (a traditional but powerful vampire story) or "Four Past Midnight" (and its quartet of imaginative novellas). But I suppose there are worse things than the familiar, and this tale, about a blocked writer and his budding relationship with a heart-of-gold town girl and her psychic daughter, is as well worn and comfortable as an old glove. The emotional angle--the writer's coming to terms with grief--is well handled too, as is the commentary of being a wealthy author out of ideas. Mr. King himself isn't there yet but in his next work I hope he moves into new territory.
