Summary: excellent
Review: Stephen King does an excellent job reading this novel. Only the author could do a book justice since he is the one who knows how the characters were meant to sound. This set of cassettes is making it's way through the entire family. Even my aunt, who stopped reading King years ago, listened to this audiobook.

Summary: Stephen King is still capable of keeping me up all night.
Review: When I was 14, Stephen King was the first "adult" writer I was a fanatic about. For about five years straight I read everything I could find by him and then, I don't know, I sort of grew out of him. (Kind of the way I grew out of that Wet n' Wild frosted pink lipstick, thank God.) And then came Bag of Bones -- a great review in Publisher's weekly and then the miracle appearance of a free advance copy. Wow. Now I'm reading it for the second time. King is a REAL writer. His grasp of dialog is amazing. There's an exchange between the main character and a deputy in Chapter 5 that cracks me up everytime I read it. And the story is wonderful -- so true that the first time I read it, I would have sworn to you that King's wife had died in real life (As does the main character's in Chapter 1). A must read. It will scare the crap out of you (without any real gore)and keep you reading until your eyes clamp shut. And, as a bonus, I was able to realize that perhaps I had good taste all along, except for a few minor divergences in personal grooming.

Summary: A Return to King proves pleasureable
Review: An avid Stephen King reader, I had drifted away from him in recent months. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with this offering. I had heard some bad things about most of King's recent efforts so maybe I went in with lower expectations than normal. That said, I found Bag of Bones to be an engrossing read. Perhaps it is a little long winded at the beginning, but it picks up steam in the middle and hits the mark at the end.

Summary: The King is Alive!
Review: This is a very good book. It appealed to me because I am a writer and was able to see some of the dealings in book publishing King must have used as background. It was eerie and carried me along with an excitement I get from few other authors. King is a great storyteller. His words do come alive!

Summary: A look at love, life, death, and art
Review: I don't usually like Stephen King books, but something drew me to this one. Unlike King's fans, who seem to thrive on the horror aspect of his work, I prefer the richness of his literary style. I've always loved the way King can put you write on the street with the characters, you see it all and know everyone they know, yet I don't find the description boring. This book is no exception. I've always been a fan of King's short stories and some of his novels (this may be my third). King can tell a story with sentences that flow smoothly, yet have depth. He captures so much of the human experience. I liked how the book examined the writer's experience, the ups and down. I found Mike Noonan's writer's block, and his reactions to it, hysterical. I also found Noonan's approach to Mattie and her child to be touching, and as the desire to help turned into a desire to love, well.. that was very rewarding until a certain drive by shooting. I believe that the characters in this book made me love them. The ghosts were an interesting sub plot. Neat idea, though. And as the aunt to a wonderful 3 year old boy, I could relate to Noonan's feelings toward Ki. But anyway, my mom's the King fan, and she hated this book. Thought it was boring. I think it depends what you're looking for out of it. This book didn't scare me, and the books Mom likes usually did.

Summary: Very exceptional. Prime King.
Review: A great story. It has love and horror. It was captivating and very well written. At times, I imagined that I was feeling the fear that Mike Noonan felt during his stay at Sara Laughs. I felt his lost, love, and fear and that's is what I like in a book. King has creating a masterpiece. His character develpoment is unparallel.

Summary: Haunting
Review: It is wonderful to see Mr. King dancing once again around the notion of the haunt. The plot is about obsessions, but it also is an obsession. But the beauty is in the characters. They all breathe, all of them staunch Yankees who seem to be nervous through the entire book that you're seeing their laundry hung inside out. The atmosphere smacks of an idea that Mr. King couldn't get out of his head. I'm glad it's in mine now, too.

Summary: In my opinion, the best book ever written by Mr.King.
Review: This is the type of book in which it is so great there's no putting it down. I read it in 4 days. One night I read it 6 in a half hours stright.

Summary: Welcome home, Stephen King.
Review: The prodigal Stephen King, who once brought us massive, intricate works such as "The Stand" and "It", has finally come home. "Bag of Bones" is the kind of big, chewy novel that keeps you totally engrossed during the entire ride. It seems that even after 30 years of storytelling he has managed to move up to a new level of maturity. This is not to say that his past works were any less important or exceptional, but this particular yarn has a level humanity about it that hasn't been seen since "The Stand". Some of the ideas and ploting will be familiar to King readers --- The closed-mouthed-East-Coast-town-hiding-a-secret bit, for example --- but the overall timbre of this novel was refreshing. One small note that warrants mentioning... it was also scary as hell! I am fortunate enough to own a house that does not have a cellar, but for those of you who do, proceed with caution.

In short, "Bag of Bones" is a great ride from a prolific writer who continually ups the ante in both the horror genre and the literary world in general.

Summary: Glad to see some of the old Stephen King back
Review: Gobbled up every one of King's early books--Carrie, The Stand, Dead Zone--but nearly gave up on him after reading Pet Sematery (spelling?), Cujo, and Christine. At last, a real ghost story that borders (sorry, Amazon) on the literary novel. I wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to more books like this from him. When, however, are publishers and authors going to figure out a better typographic device for dream, or "zone," sequences than hard-to-read italics? Long dream sequences in novels can be as boring as those related by people you know, but putting them in italics just makes me want to skip them altogether.
