Rating: Summary: In a Class by Itself Review: King's "Bag of Bones" starts out with a haunted house in the country, but I can't go much further and reveal what this novel is really about without giving the plot away. But I can tell you that it cuts deeper to the American bone than other King novels I've read. The ones about the telekinetic virgin, the jealous Plymouth and the genocidal superflu were quite well done, but "Bag of Bones" is in a class by itself. In my opinion it represents a new high for King and he is truly at the peak of his powers. I hope he hasn't run away from his fans; I hope he continues to grow and expand as an artist.
Rating: Summary: One of the best! Review: This was only my second Stephen King novel, so I can't say whether or not it was HIS best. I can say, though, that it is one of the best I have ever read! Bag of Bones is my new favorite. It is delightfully unpredictable and complex. It combines two worlds--the physical and the spiritual--for a wonderful, haunting, sometimes frightening story. Its not just horror, though. It's a story of love. Love for a child, for a wife, for another woman. Its very touching.
Rating: Summary: King at his finest! Review: A definite change of pace for King-lovers! You'll just flip for the lead character, Michael "Irish" Noonan. This was a book that I couldn't read fast enough. At the end, I wished and wished for more! Proves that Stephen King isn't just a "blood and guts" horror-writer. He's a writer with a tremendous imagination and a big heart!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Story. Review: Unlike some of Stephen King's books which focus more on a play with your fears this one tends to play with both that and your heart. The story seems well thought-out (although at times I think it went a bit slow) and it comes through terrifically into a smashing end. Quick, to the point. Wonderful.
Rating: Summary: My faith restored. Review: The last King book I read was 'Geralds Game'. It was a major disappointment to me, so much so, that after finishing 'Gerald', I stopped reading King. I had read all of his books up to that point. For my birthday my wife bought 'Bag of Bones' for me. Skeptical at first, but what the hell, worth a glance. After the first few pages, I couldn't put it down; and when I unwillingly had to, to take care of everyday matters such as career, responsibilities to my wife and children, etc., etc.; I could not wait until time permitted me to once again pick it up and travel to another time and place. When I finished it, I was astounded once more by Kings' magical writing ability. Read this. You must. You owe it to yourself. The 'Green Mile' is next for me. Although at some point, I will return to 'Bag of Bones' for another pleasurable journey through Mr. Kings soul and mind. My thanks to him for bringing me back and my thanks also to my wife for leading me there.
Rating: Summary: Gripping Page Turner-Nothing Short of Stephen King Review: Stephen King's BAG OF BONES is one of the best books I have ever read. It's vintage Stephen King. The building of the plot and the characters make the reader want to keep reading to find out what's going to happen on the next page. The book made me think a lot about our society as a whole and what morals we have and need to work on. The book kept getting better as I kep reading. There's always a surprise. I'm so inspired by it that I'm going to write a screenplay from it. My friend is going to direct our own little movie.
Rating: Summary: Bag of Bones Review: Excellent,One of the best. So different, but so Stephen Kin
Rating: Summary: Strong Heavy Storytelling Review: What I liked the most about Bag Of Bones was the insight in which Stephen King gives the writer mentallity, and shows a little of his heart to the genre, as well as his dedication to his work. With Mike Noonan, King develops a strong main character, a must for a novel of this type, told in first person. He develops strong supporting characters Mattie Devore, John Storrow, and does a superb job of entangling the reader in a two way story of ghosts and child custody. Bag Of Bones delivers some of the best twists in a Stephen King book, some that you will never see coming, and has a sad, but necessary ending. Bag Of Bones will leave the Stephen King fan with tears in their eyes, and butterflies in your throat. The novel symbolizes the aspect of writing, and you actually think at some points of the novel, is this Stephen King talking, or Mike Noonan?
Rating: Summary: enthralling read Review: I thought this book was very well written. The character developement was excellent and the plot was very enthralling. However, it lacked a good ending. Everything started coming together but then it just ended. This book is one of Stephen Kings better developing novels but if I had to rank the ending I would give it a 1. I thought this book could have come together much better at the ending. So that is my review.
Rating: Summary: My first Stephen King book. Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was my very first Stephen King book. I am 13 years old and I thought it was very interesting. I really liked the first person perspective, it really made you feel like you were Mike Noonan, the author who has writers' block after his wife dies. Four years after she died, he was living a boring life in Derry, Maine, untill he has nightmares about his summerhouse Sara Laughs. Eventually he goes back to his summerhouse which he hasn't been to for 5 years, and there are ghosts that haunt it. He meets a woman named Mattie Devore and her daughter Kyra and he falls in love with them. Max Devore, Mattie's father in law wants custody of Kyra. Mike Noonan discovered that there was history of murders in the town. He finds out some suspicious stuff about his wife, and he learnes he is able to write again in Sara Laughs. I loved this book so much. It isn't what I would call a horror story, it's more of a ghost story. It doesn't get real scary till the very end. It's very interesting and I would recomend it to anyone, even if they aren't horror fans. Also, read Misery, it's a very good book.
