Rating: Summary: nothing can describe how i feel for this book Review: when i first baught this book, i baught it along with the book desperation. i'm glad that i read desperation first, and you'll see why. When i read the first chapter of the book, i knew that i was in for something far more spectacular than i could grasp. the beginning, though not slow, was slower than the rest of the book, and i am thankful for it because by the time you finish the book, something inside of you is different, and it wouldnt feel right for that feeling to come in the beginning of the book. I really think that when Mike get's to sara laughs, he really doesnt know what he was in for, because if he did, he would have left the second he got there. seriously. and then, when sort of conversates with the spirits (thump once for yes, twice for no), you'll think that he really should have left. but by the end f the book, you'll think he did the right thing by staying. the relationship between mattie and kyra really brought tears to my eyes, and to think that anyone would try to break that up hurts me, but that is only the beginning. The town itself is full of secrets the are haunting in there own way (as you find out in the end) and is full of characters so real that you feel like you are in the story, a story so real, so emotional, that it made me cry more than once, laugh a few times, and leave the light on when i went to sleep everyday. so, the choice is yours, red pill, blue pill. embark on a journey about life itself or stay with the average killer slasher "AHHH!" grind. the choice is yours, constant reader. well done mr. king, well done
Rating: Summary: Starts slow, but ends very well indeed Review: This is 'classic' Stephan King at its best. Mr. King is adept at weaving a compelling story around commonplace events and introducing us to the darker world beyond - taking us into the realm of the imagination and nightmares. The tale begins mudanely enough. Best seller novelist Mike Noonan has just lost his beloved wife in the parking lot of a shopping center - and seemingly, his ability to write. Fortunately for him, early in his career he had saved up manuscripts for leaner times and was able to submit them to his publisher on a regular basis. However, the manuscripts are running out and Mike wonders if his career is at an end. He dreams of his summer home at 'Sara Laughs' where he and his late wife spent time together. Finally, searching for answers, he returns there. Up to this point the story drags a bit -- but don't put the book down quite yet. Once the author arrives at his summer cottage, developements begin to take place at an ever increasing pace -- and we begin to see Mr. King do what he has always done so well ... frighten the bejesus out of us in a normal everyday setting. The book jacket proclaims 'Bag of Bones' to be a 'haunted love story', and it is. But it is much more. It is suspense, drama and things that go bump in the night all wrapped up in a neat package that is difficult to put down. Read it curled up on a comfortable couch during a dark rainy night. You'll have a whole different attitude about visiting your favorite summer house when you're finished. ~P~
Rating: Summary: King Beams in "Bones" Review: We know King as a master of horror. In "Bag of Bones" he is also a skillfully complete story teller. The plot begins about a man, also a writer, his tragically killed wife and a journey to find himself again. You might want to put the coffee on....what takes place at their re-visited lake home might have you up 'til the morning sunlight tickles at your toes! I liked the intricate weaving of ghostly spirits, racial history, lust , & love. Some parts were so vivid, I could tightly close my eyes and still hear the screams. Read it & remember it always. other reading suggestions: "Messiah" by Boris Starling, "Hannibal" by Thomas Harris, "The Empty Chair" by Jeffery Deaver if you find my comments interesting, please click the "yes"--thanks--CDS
Rating: Summary: Haunting Review: This book has a way of getting under your skin. While it is not a straight up horror story it is a haunting ghost story that has stayed with me longer than most of Stephen King's books have. Read it if you like King but stay away if you are sqeamish about graphic rape scenes.
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: It's a rare thing indeed to get a great novel & a great yarn in one package, but Bag Of Bones is it. Not only do we get one of King's characteristically mesmerizing, twisty-turny plots, but a work that has a lot to say about life, work, art, and the power of doing nothing. I could pick nits about some of the rather caricatured bad guys & clunky bits of writing (they're both here) but, as Bartleby, and his contemporary counterpart Mike Noonan, would say, I prefer not to.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book! Review: Bag of Bones was my first King novel that I really read all the way through, and now I have read several of his other works. Bag of Bones is very well written! I would recommend this as a first King book, because it's not the "usual" gore, and horror that most people believe King to be. I couln't put this book down, the reading is fast paced, and you won't be able to wait to see what happens next. With all aspects of the different characters. I think it's more "believeable" than most of his other books, in that the "scary" characters are ghosts, which I really belive in. Just a great book! Get reading!
Rating: Summary: My favorite of King's Works Review: I am an avid reader of Stephen King. I have found his horror novels to be gripping and exiting. However this book is the best of his that i have read. It is a haunting story, that both scared me in parts and deeply touched me in others. King has proved that he is able to write more than horror with books such as Different Seasons and The Green Mile. What this book does is combines his mastery of the Horror genre with his ability to generate deeply touching literature. King's hardcore horror fans will be disappointed with this book, but personally i recommend this to everyone.

Rating: Summary: One of his most creative efforts Review: If your looking for a novel that has nonstop scares, you may or may not be disappointed with Bag of Bones. However, if you are looking for a creatively written novel, with a nailbiter climax, then read it. Sure, it is a bit long, but it has it's rewards.
