Summary: Best Book I Have Ever Read!
Review: Stephen King is just simply amazing. I really cared for Mike Noonan, Mattie, and Kyra. And simply hated Devore, and Rogette. The scares in this book are often and creepy. The story is Stephen King at his best. He keeps you thinking. And once you think you figure something out or where he is going to take you, you find yourself being wrong. Lots of surprises. Lots of scares. All Stephen King. I dont want to list anything about the story here. It is up to the reader to fully discover this amazing book.

Summary: Definately different - but still King!
Review: When I sat down with this book, I was a little apprehensive because I knew that it was a "departure" from King's other novels. I had read the reviews, and I knew that people thought it was great, but still... Much to my surprise I loved this novel! Throughout the whole thing there is so much drama and suspense, you wonder what will happen next! I cried twice reading this book, and with King novels (other than The Green Mile and IT) I usually NEVER cry...You will love this book, you will want to hold Kyra, sleuth with Noonan and help Mattie - please, read this book with the lights on though, it is a hell of a ghost story!

Summary: King at his Best
Review: The central character is a widowed best selling novelist, Mike Noonan who is grieving from his wife's sudden and unexpected death. He suffers from writer's block. He begins having a repetitive dream focusing on his dead wife appearing at the doorsteps of his Maine summerhouse he calls Sara Laughs. He packs up his belongings and moves into the old house in hope that he will begin writing again.

He meets a young woman, Mattie Devore and her daughter Kyra who are grieving the death of Mattie's husband. Mike begins to notice strange happenings around Sara Laughs. He believes these occurrences are to help him begin writing and get over the loss of his wife, and to help Mattie and Kyra escape from the clutches of her father in law, Max Devore who is trying to gain custody of his granddaughter.

In Bag of Bones King combined mystery, suspense, a little romance, and the supernatural. I found this to be as exceptional as Insomnia, which I thought was one of King's best. An incredible read!

Summary: King does it again
Review: This is a very good book. For years now, King has been trying to transcend the horror-genre corner he long ago painted himself into, often producing mixed results. While this probably won't be many people's all-time favorite King novel ever, it probably will keep you up a few nights. This is a fresh and lively ghost story that manages to hold you in it's clutches for darn near 800 pages.

Summary: He's Done Better Stuff
Review: I know there are people out there who will blast me for what I am about to write, but I didn't feel that Bag of Bones was a particularly good novel. It lacked punch. Normally once I get into one of Stephen King's novels, I'm hooked. I can't stop reading. I was easily able to put aside Bag of Bones. At a good many points, I wanted to skim through the rest in an hour or just return the book to the library. I will admit the ending was good (I never expected the water thing with Mattie), and that line, "Give me back my dustcatcher!" still strikes me as phenomenal.... but frankly I don't think the book was worth it. I think King is capable of writing a better novel, scary or otherwise. Personally, I'd advise people to buy the book for their collection, but not to bother reading it. On a better note, I really enjoyed The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Hearts In Atlantis, and the first 2 installments of The Plant. What can I say? That's my opinion.

Summary: Deep, Complex, Captivating.
Review: This book is a wonderful example of King's magic. I have read many of his books, but I think this is some of his finest work. The story wraps around you like a whole new world...envelopes you in the clearly developed scenes. You will eat, sleep, and breathe this book, and it will stick with you long after you finish it. Dive in! A haunting, satisfying read...

Summary: Bag of Bones
Review: Whether Stephen King intended this book to be scary or not, I don't know, but it wasn't. It is still an excellent book. If you're a true Stephen King fan, you know that a lot of his books aren't scary; they're just excellent stories. For example: Hearts in Atlantis, The Dark Tower series (four books so far), Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, and Different Seasons (The Breathing Method is still one of my all time favorite stories), to name a few. And if you're a true Stephen King fan, you also know that he writes stories with endings he wants. Whether you like his endings, I'm sure he doesn't care. He probably didn't write them for you; he wrote them for himself. Don't complain about endings you don't like; they're still well written stories. And Bag of Bones is no exception! It's a great story that's full of heart, emotion, and chilling events. It's a story of a love lost, a love found, and other events that I'll leave to the reader! I love ghost stories and this a good one!

Summary: King serves up another winner
Review: Stephen King offers a full plate with this novel. The cadence of the story builds to a powerful ending. Getting there is the fun part.

The main character is a likeable author heartbroken over the unexpected death of his wife. Clutched in her hand is a pregnancy test kit of which he didn't have a clue. As he tries to sort out the questions that inevitably arise, he finds himself in the middle of an ugly town secret and subjected to townspeople who attempt to intimidate him to just go away.

But, of course, he doesn't go away. In fact, powerful influences in the supernatural form visit upon him with hints and cyptic messages that he must struggle to make sense of. The story moves along at a nice pace and really leaves you guessing as to the hidden agenda. The finish is very powerful. The book reads so brilliantly that in your mind's eye you can literally form your own movie.

Summary: b.o.b
Review: After reading this book several weeks after reading The Green Mile and Different Seasons, I have personally come to enjoy this "type" of King to his conventional blood and guts horror feasts. Although those are great too, his more recent trips into sophistication ring true as not just some more Steven King best sellers but true literary masterworks breaking through the genre barriers. Bag of Bones is a complex story that starts a bit slow but never bores. This one picks up the pace and races toward a climax that's almost a bit too much to handle. King is always easy to read, and seems to wave a magical wand when it comes to detail. King's gift of observation translates into words so accurately that it is....well....scary. It's no mistake that many of his books become movies; you can practically see them as you read them. Bag of Bones is no exception. I very much enjoyed this book.

Summary: Ending lost my interest...
Review: This was the second King book I ever read and probably the last. First, let me say that I understand why King is such a successful writer. I cared for the main characters Noonan and Mattie and Kyra and hated Devore. King described the life in Maine perfectly. So I feel that I got out of the story what King wanted me too, and I that is why I didn't like it. I will explain what I think was wrong with the story without giving away the plot.

The first half of the book is concerned with Noonan's wife Jo, Mattie and her girl, and Devore. There are several clues and mysterious happenings concerning these people that lead me to believe that the book is going to be about them. The other mystery of the book revolves around the town, its people, and Sara Tidwell (a black folk singer who died 100 years ago and the person who Mike's house is named after). There are a few odds and ends sprinkled in the first part of the book about the town and its history and mystery. The problem is, there is not enough to make me care about the town and its secrets. So when the book makes a U-turn and the primary plot of the book involves Sara Tidwell and the bad people of the town, I really don't care. King did not do a good job of convincing me that I should care about the town and its people. I wanted to focus on Mattie and her child and Jo. Sure, they are a part of the story too, but really as only an means to the end of Sara and the town's terrible past. The supernatural part of the book was somewhat interesting, with all of the clues the ghosts (his wife) gave to Noonan. Still, the clues never appeared to lead where I thought they would, and that was frustrating. This was a well written book that failed to convince me to care about the ending.
