Summary: Too long and uninteresting
Review: This is the first Stephen King novel I've read in a long time. Had just read his book on writing so thought I'd try him again.It started very slowly and I began to skim. I just never found the people interesting. I didn't really care what happened to them. I was disappointed at the drive-by shooting near the end. It didn't make much sense. It seemed to be added as an afterthought. However, it did prompt me to re-read Rebecca which is one of my favorite books!

Summary: Okay read but not as good as his others
Review: I am an avid King reader, having read the likes of It, The Stand, Four Past Midnight, etc. I picked this book up thinking it would be as compelling as these previous books. But I was a little disappointed because I thought it was too long and the storyline was not that great. It did have its good parts but I would recommend sticking to his other books.

Summary: Truly Magnificent!
Review: This is one of King's best books. It is called a haunted love story, and for the most part it is. It covers almost every aspect including a little "wierdness" that usually accompanies a King novel. The main character, Mike Noonan, is a best selling novelist who's wife passed away suddenly. While finding little clues about what his wife was hiding from him, he a dilema of his own: writers block. To solve this problem, he returns to their place at the lake they called Sara Laughs and tries to write. But while their, he starts seeing shadows and items shuffling around the cabin. Then he meets a much younger woman who's husband was killed and has young daughter. He finds out that they are having trouble with her father-in-law. Many many problems to solve and only one book to solve them all. A must for any King fan and those who are not will be very surprised at how well written this is. I read the last 325 pages in one night and it gave me chills.

Summary: Surprisingly good!
Review: My parents are huge King fans, myself, I am an avid King fan, as a writer I tend to critique other's work far to much to enjoy a book. This book is very different from King's usual work, his characters are complexed, with high conflict, and believable. The entire book is filled with a number of conflicts which King melds gracefully together, until the climatic, surprising, ending.

Summary: Okay, but somehow lacking.
Review: This is a decent read, though unnecessarily long. It is periodically quite boring (though not for long periods) as King goes into too much detail about things not remotely necessary to the storyline. If you're looking for scary or horror, this definitely isn't it. There are shadowy forms, whispering winds, and ringing bells dangling from mounted Moose-heads, but nothing that keeps you on the edge of your seat very well.

Summary: A truly deep story
Review: As a fan of fiction, you cant get around reading Stephen King. Im not a fan of horror, but I do like stories that are thought provoking and nonsimplistic. This book was great. I loved the descriptions of the area of the TR, His sadness over the death of his wife was transferred perfectly. I felt his loss. I also felt his love for Kyra and especially Mattie. It was a scary, loving and great love story, with a lot of history thrown in it. I was really impressed with the Sara Laughs origin, and glad that the atrocity was confronted and not sugar coated. Mr King let the reader know the depths of racism that existed then. Its a story that has happened somewhere in our history whether we know it or not. I applaud you Mr. King. Youre the king.

Summary: Excellent Read
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. The only reason I would have to sadly put the book down was when I slept and went to school. But even then I thought of what was to come next in this excellent story. I would have to say this is one of my favorites. I was dissapointed with a book I had read by Stephen King and wasn't sure I would read another book of his. After receiving this marvelous book for Christmas I immediately decided to change my view on his books I have decided to find more that I will enjoy but enough about his other books. I throughly enjoyed this book and have recommended it to many of my family and friends.

Summary: Breathtaking
Review: There is a belief amongst the snobs of the literary world that thrillers and horror stories are somehow a lesser genre, and that those who write them, as well as those who read them, deserve pointing, laughing and general derision. To those people I would say, simply, read this book and be converted. Bag of Bones is an exquisitely written, extremely evocative story. King manages to transport the reader entirely to "the TR". I read this book while on holidays in Florida in August, but there were times when I felt as cold as ice. One becomes ever more immersed in the story, and embroiled in the characters. Was Mike's wife hiding a dark secret, or trying to uncover one? Is Sarah Tidwell an innocent victim or a malevolent entity? Is Max Devore simply a cantankerous old man too set in his ways for his own good, or something a lot more sinister? These questions will keep you turning pages well into the small hours of the morning, whether you have to be up for work or not. This is quite simply Stephen King at his best.

Summary: Good ol' fashion ghost story
Review: It was a refreshing twist on what is standardly a 'Stephen King' story. A little tame for him, but a great work taken to the classic ghost tale. I've seen a fair number of fans who HATED this book, but there are a good number of us who open our minds to the non-traditional King tale. Curl up by the fire and read on.

Review: Bag of Bones is Stephen King's most gripping, unnerving, and masterfully written novel I've ever read. I've read many of his works in the past and this has to be my favorite (though it's not easy to choose). Now, I rarely opt for the gothic romance sort of thing; but what really hooks me is Stephen King's marvelous way of introducing imagery that the audience associates with the norm- everyday things we can trust to be predictable- and twisting it into terrifying new heights. Bag of Bones follows novelist Mike Noonan, who's wife's death is a wound that time will not heal, leaving him weak and stricken with an extremely violent case of writer's block. He is haunted with feverish nightmares of his summer home which he calls Sara Laughs, a place practically soaked with lives long since past. After four years, he reluctantly returns, seeking inspiration and relief from his crumbling fortitude and is immediately pulled into the custody battle of a 21 year old trailer dwelling woman named Mattie Devore, who is trying to save her child, Kyra, from the clutches of her horrid millionaire father in law Max Devore; a man that the reader will be ashamed to share a species with. Noonan falls in love with Mattie and Kyra and defends them from Max Devore, the rumor mill, and Stephen King's trademark evils of small town America, while the forces of Sara Laughs unfold a century old mystery of the early 1900's black singer Sara Tidwell and the grisly circumstances surrounding her. While certainly discursive, it never drags. The story is mesmerizing, gripping, and unique; while Stephen King has moved on from horror fiction, his work remains thought provoking, witty, shocking, and overall very powerful.
