Rating: Summary: My Review of Bog of Bones Review: This I think this is one of Stephen King's better novels. I liked some of his other novel like, Pet Cemetary, The Stand, Carrie, The girl who loved Tom Gordon, and the Shinning. They are all great books. Bag of Bones will leave you on the edge of your seat all through out the novel. This book is different from the rest of his books. This is a story of a haunting love story. Rating: Summary: cheezy Review: Come read another one of Hollywood-cheezy-movie wannabe. Come experience all the flat characters, the unfocused scenes, and the sparce plot. Come! You just can't get enough of this.
Rating: Summary: stephen king has a social conscience Review: This is the first S.K. book I ever read--I expected it to be something very different, I didn't expect to like it much--but I thought I should at least read one of his books to find out why he is so popular. I was surprised at the level of social consciousness demonstrated in/by this story--Sure there is lots of supernatural scary stuff going on: King is rightfully famous for that--but what was great in this particular book, is his ability to employ an understanding of how things like racism and patriarchy and class privilege are all insidious horrors that occupy our world and haunt us as a society and as individuals.-- and he does this without ever once preaching at his readers--no wonder he is so popular. Anyway I think this is a recommendable book--not a great piece of literature--but a fine story.
Rating: Summary: I GUESS THE MAN IS TIRED Review: Not the best work of Mr. King. My idol, is (I guess) tired of writing. Or the change from Viking to the other house is doing a lot of damage. See, is a ghost-curse-bloodline story. REALLY SLOW FROM BEGINNING TO END, the story behind the story is lame, the evil is way too stupid, and...well; the worst I have read of King work. It keep you reading to the end, just to see how everything turn out, and if you are like my (a Stephen King fan who will buy all that he writes no matter how awful the book is), then buy it, otherwise do yourself a favor a ask some who have it to loan it to you.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: This book is an interesting and enthralling tale of a man dealing with the haunted history of his home and with the recent death of his wife. The narrator tells a strange tale of mystery and suspense; perhaps one of King's best pieces.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story, but babbles too much at times Review: This story is a good story with great storyline, great mystery, and great characters that you can get get interested in. The story is about a famous writer who is mourning his wife's death and he is having difficulty writing because of the grieving, and goes to a cabin he owns, only to find out it is haunted. While trying to figure out what wrong with the house, he gets involved in a custody case of young, widiwed mother and her three year-old daughter, and her millionaire computer tyrant father-in-law who is trying to take the daughter away. The story line is very well done, and the characters are so realistic you's figure they were your next door neighbors. Most charcters in stories (especially characters on TV shows) are blown up and unrealistic are generally charcters you do not like because of there fakeness, but in this story, every charcter in the story seems to have a strong base in the real world. I particularly liked the battle between the widowed mother and the greedy computer tyrant. In the computer tyrant, King made on of his best antag antagonists ever. The story was very humorous and witty and I couldn't stop laughing at some of the stuff he said in there--most people synonomous Stephen King's name with horror, but I think he should have his name in synonomous with humour as well. I really liked King's acrynum for fear, that was just hilarious. But as good as the story is, it had some glitches in it that made the story less good. One thing I did not like was the fact that it babbled to much about things, stuff that wasn't that important. Stuff inside the brackets got way to long at times (who wants to read 6 or 7 lines of words that are in no way essential to the plot. Another bad thing was the novel was to self indulgent, portions of the book were all about King's life as a writer--he manifested his thoughts on being a writer through the main character of the book. By no means was King bragging about his long and successful writing carreer, but he was self indulging nonetheless, and that part I didn't like. I also found it a bit weird, a 40 year old man wanting to date a person who just graduated high school, that was a bit odd ball to me and seemed petafillistic in a sense. I had to read that part of the novel twice to make sure I had the story right. Also anohter point, when tyraninnical computer guy and his ancient girl friend are hucking stones at the writer, the results of the stone-throwing were a bit fake and unrealistc. All those stones being hucked at his head, wouldn't one of them split the writers head open and knock him unconscious. Secondly, wouldn't someone be around to witness the stone-throwing, wouldn't thr old farts be convicted of attempted murder. But all and all, the story was excellent, and the well done story line easily made the stories glitches forgiveable.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this if you don't want an amazing book Review: This is by far the greatest Ghost Story I have ever read. There have been so many sleepless nights while reading this. It's not scary per se, more of a nailbiting nervous feeling that something is watching you while your reading it. Personally, I see this book as King's finest moment. I will probably read it again later.
Rating: Summary: Truly dismal............... Review: While admittedly I have not read any of King's recent works, I was a strong fan of his earlier works (e.g. The Stand, The Dead Zone, Firestarter). Like the others I had read, I had hoped that Bag of Bones would be a compelling read from the very beginning. Unfortunately, it was not. After completing the first 125 pages of Bag of Bones, I stopped. I was truly disappointed and decided to cut my losses. Perhaps it would have improved, but with so many other books to potentially enjoy, I could find no compelling reason to read the rest.
Rating: Summary: My favorite King Novel Review: This has everything minus a little of the gore you are accustomed to in a King novel. Mike Noonan lost his wife and he needs to escape. As a struggling writer, he finds (I say not comfort..HINT) but shelter in a log cabin on Dark Shore Lake in Maine. The house has it's own identity. It talks and groans and moans...enough haunting to scare even the most devoted King conneseur. The house plays a central character in the story just as the real loveable characters themselves. No, it IS just a house, but one that could win an oscar for best supporting actor. Mike befriends a local, but mysterious blonde who has a psychic daughter with custody problems. As Mike tries to help mother and daughter through their rough times, he himself is stuggling back home in the haunted cabin. Who are the voices? How can he help? He seems to be struggling to find anwers to everything..his new friends, his lost wife, and the hauntings that cry out for his help. The characters in this book are so beleivable and loveable. I never wanted the pages to end...I found when the book had ended, good deeds done, and closure came...I was still licking my lips for more. "Bag of Bones" is a fairly large book, (I'm not talking the "Stand" or anything) but it is hearbreaking to let go of the raelationships in the book! Nothing left to do when you finish this one but start reading it all over again!
Rating: Summary: By far the best! Review: "Bag of Bones" kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time that I was reading it. Extremely well written. Content was phenominal. "Bag of Bones" is one of King's best.
