Rating: Summary: Bag of Greatness Review: I am a great Stephen King fan BUT there have been some books that have disappointed me like The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon but this book is GREAT!! It would make one great spooookkyyy movie.
Rating: Summary: SPELLBINDING Review: This was the first Stephen King book I read, and I was truly entranced by it. I do not hesitate to say that it is one of my favorite books. Once I picked it up, I had to force myself to put it down. This book has it all: humor, romance, mystery, and, of course, horror. I recommend it to anyone who likes a good read, and who doesn't? Bottom line: Get the book, read it, and thank me later. ;-)
Rating: Summary: My favorite so far! Review: And I thought that Stephen King has written nothing as good as The Stand? Well, was I in for a surprise or what? I loved this book. This is one book that I will never donate to the library. (nor any of my other Stephen King novels, for that matter)Mike Noonan, the sole character of this intriqingly terryifing novel, is one of my favorite characters of all times. I just loved his personality and wit. My eyes were either swelling with repressed tears, or I was cracking up with laughter. My heart ached with sadness as Mike retold his saddened story to us. Mike who is a novelist,is living a normal life, when suddenly his world as he sees it is careened to a halt. His beloved wife Johanna passes away, and with her his ability to write. Writers Block. The bane of all writers(believe me I know). He skims with us through four years of his life after his wife dies, then he takes us with him into his return to Sara Laughs. Sara Laughs is the name of a small cottage up the coast of Maine. Mike and Jo bought it as a summer resort. He had not returned in the 4 years since she had gone. Now he is back, and so are many strange things going on around him. He meets Mattie and Kyra two females who will change his life forever. I do not want to give away any plots, but I must say this. You have to read this book. If you think Stephen King was good in his other works, than you definitely need to read about Mike Noonan and his horrifying shenanigans at Sara Laughs. You will be spooked out of your mind, and you will come to love Mike Noonan. For real.
Rating: Summary: Loved this book, loved the symbolism, couldn't put it down! Review: I thought this book was one of the finer King books I've ever read (and I've read almost all of them). I was especially happy about this book as it came on the heels of my half-read "Hearts in Atlantis" (which I had a difficult time getting through). I could not put this book down, and highly recommend it to ANYONE. As for a previous review claiming it didn't get interesting until mid-book, I was thoroughly into this book by the second page. Thank you Stephen for another wonderful engaging novel!
Rating: Summary: A good book Review: A good book. It had more the quality of romance, loss, and mystery than horror. I read the book a long time ago, so I don't remember a lot of specifics. Overall, I enjoyed it. I recommend it to anyone who is not looking for one of Stephen King's horror books. The story was more personal. It felt more first person than some of King's other works.
Rating: Summary: Bag of Bones? Bag of Tricks! Review: At the end of this book, Stephen says, "I hope "bag of Bones" gave you at least one sleepless night...It gave me one or two." I laughed when I read that, because not only had I read this book (all 732 pages) in one long sitting, I had to stay up and read another book to eradicate the incited fears before going to bed at 5:20 a.m. This book has obvoius flaws. First, Stephen is unable to quantify and accurately portray children of any age. Their portrayed mentalities are too unstable. The 9 year old in "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" (another fabulous tale) seems more like 13, sometimes 15, and the 4 year old in Bag is at times 2, 3, 5, 7. Second, there is quite a bit of emotional unrest, and no real catharsis. Another reveiwer mentioned a conflict with love and ..., and s/he was quite right. But beyond these superficial, literary flaws, there lies a great story. Stephen King is a master storyteller, and this is no exception. It goes on and on, the action pumelling the reader like the 10th, 11th, 12th mysterious shot from a 6 shot clip. I thoroughly enjoyed this very freaky tome, and I suggest you add it to your list if you love a good scare and are not too concerned with literary details.
Rating: Summary: A solid, well told story... Review: It's difficult to describe it much better than that without writing a lengthy review. In Bag of Bones, King weaves numerous subplots together with the story of Mike Noonan to create a very rich and satisfying story. This one should please all of King's fans, with its elements of horror, suspense and honestly written characters.
Rating: Summary: Incredible ending, dull beginning... Review: This book was a good one, but if you want to read it, be warned! The beginning is very, very boring, and it seems as though the book will never get better. But in the middle, the pace begins to quicken, and things get a little too creepy a little too fast. If you want a story with suspense, ghosts, tragedies, romance, strange people, funny noises in the night, and a killer storm, this is a good book to read. But if you usually put a book down half-way and not finish, don't read this one, because only the end is really good.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece of tragedy! Review: This was a spellbinding novel! Like most of King's novels, the horror and supernatureal element is very well done; the master of the horror novel is in fine form. But for me, what made this novel a masterpiece was its depiction of the venegful ghost, who had been the victim of a hideous crime decades before. One could weep at the tragedy that had consumed her while understanding that her present evil actions had to be resisted. A person who had been victimized by evil developed into an entity who had surrendered to evil by going on an eternal quest for vengeance. This is not just a horror novel, it is a heart-wrenching morality play.
Rating: Summary: An incredibly pleasing novel... Review: When I first saw this novel, I never thought that I would fall in love with it. Why you ask? Well, for 5 reasons: characters, plot, King's wonderful characterizations, the setting, and the over-all mood of the novel. This is probably the most sad and psychologically chilling novel that I have read in many years, and yet it still is remarkably original and extraordinary. Truly, with Bag of Bones, Stephen King has made me grow a fond love for horror with his first impression upon me with but one book. I hope that anyone that is reading this will take my word and fall in love with this novel just as I had when I read it.
