Rating: Summary: Slowly but surely grabs you and makes you believe in ghost Review: Steven King slowly but surely grabs your mind and makes you believe in ghosts. I'll never look at refrigerator magnets the same way again....as a matter of fact I'm throwing mine out!!
Rating: Summary: Like a derailed freight train. Review: First, let me explain the Four stars, even though I wasn't impressed with this story, its still Stephen King, and I couldn't give less than Four stars simply because one flop doesn't mean its over. I started this book with all the gusto I start all of Kings books. This story had so much potential from the start, I thought this was going to be the best I had read, and until I got about half way through it I thought I had been right. All of a sudden it quit, like someone had pulled the plug on a hairdryer, it was just gone. I think it took a wrong turn and like most people didn't want to stop and ask directions. I have always been a huge King fan and have always liked every story. Lets hope the next stays one on the right path, that left turn at Albuerque is always a tricky one.
Rating: Summary: Some good "old-fashioned" King. Review: I feel like I was visiting an old friend reading Bag of Bones. Some of King's later works (minus the Dark Tower series) have left me wanting these past few years. While I was intrigued with the main character, for the first 2/3 of the book I was wondering where all the scary stuff was. Suddenly my breathing stopped and my heart began to pound. It's all there. I recommend it heartily!
Rating: Summary: Excellent writing! Review: Bag of Bones impressed me with King's ability to write good literature; he has a depth that I hadn't seen before in his previous novels. The characterization is superb. I would have given this book 5 stars except that I was disappointed toward the end. I felt the story deteriorated, and even got ridiculous at the end.
Rating: Summary: This is King's 8 star trip through the horror zone Review: When King speaks of a mind misbehaving I am certain he speaks from experience. Bag of Bones could only have been written by a truly misbehavin' mind. The eyes are the windows to the soul and when one looks into King's eyes, one possibly understands the depth these stories come from. Bag of Bones is the richest yet in personalities, real people and the kind of mind numbing horror that creeps onto your skin and envelops you before you realize its there. If there ever were to be an eight star review....this would be it. I would urge anyone who enjoys a throughly good read to...DO IT!!!!
Rating: Summary: Stephen King is the BEST! Review: Stephen King at his best, Bag of Bones lives up to everything you expect from King! Can't wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: Not his best novel ever, but the best in some time. Review: For about the first half, I was under the spell that Stephen King cast in his new book, _Bag of Bones_. It was wonderful, enthralling, etc., etc., what so few of his recent books have been. I had great hopes for the book, which I'd seen described as "his best novel ever."Do I agree with that evaluation? No. See _The Shining_ for the book that we will remember Mr. King for. _Bag of Bones_ falls apart around the midpoint, as do so many of his novels (for me, the magic started to disappear around the time of _Pet Sematary_, but I continue to read, and hope, that it will someday return). Will my comments persuade or dissuade you from reading the book? Unlikely. Still, I was hoping for more. Keep working, Mr. King.
Rating: Summary: Another Excellent King Book Review: King has done it again! If staying awake until the wee hours of the morning clutching a good book is your idea of entertainment, then I urge you to run out and pick up a copy of Bag of Bones! Once again, King delves into the far reaches of the human psyche and shatters it. Emotions run high and the shudders are frequent as you turn the pages of this haunting novel. Throw out all of your old ghost stories this is the ultimate in ghostly terror. Spend tonight with Stephen King. And don't forget your night light! Pleasant dreams!
Rating: Summary: Great characters, insidious small-town secrets Review: Once again, Stephen King "fleshes out" chacters we come to love and sets them amidst the insidiouness of small-town secrets and the powerful presence of the dead. Not since 'Harvest Home' have I felt so vivdly the helplessness of characters that are drawn into a frightening drama that they are forced to play out til the end. This book will pull you in and you wont be able to put it down! A must read!
Rating: Summary: One of King's Best Ever Review: I anxiously awaited the delivery of "Bag of Bones" the week of September 21, 1998, as I had ordered it from Amazon a month earlier. Once it arrived, I could hardly wait to begin reading it. I was not disappointed!!! Stephen King is at his best with this one. I just wish I did not have a job during the time that I was reading this book. I did not want to put it down, but I did have to sleep and work. On the second night, I discovered I was only seventy pages from finishing, and ended up awake till four reading it. I had to finish. Stephen King makes you care about his characters, and makes you feel as if you really know them. He had me feeling a little scared at times, and at the end, I had to wipe away a tear or two. It is just so extremely well written. He totally understands how small town gossip and stories start and make their convoluted rounds. I highly recommend this book to everyone, It is not just for horror fans, but for all readers. I can hardly wait till the next Stephen King book is released.
