Summary: Necroscope: I don't know what to put
Review: this is the best book i have ever read in my life. seriously. if you like ESP, the undead, even the dead, this book is for you, and all that follow.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent mix of Superhero and Horror themes
Review: It's hard these days to come up with a new idea that hasn't been done to death already by other authors. But this is exactly what Brian Lumley has done here. This book is immediately engaging, telling the story of two separate Necromancers who have arcane powers over the dead. Harry Keogh's ability is to talk with the dead, which he learns about and uses in surprising ways as his growth to manhood is chronicled. Harry has the ability not only to talk with the dead, but to let the dead act through him. So, for example, if he were in a Literature class, he could let Shakespear literally write his essay on Hamlet. I found this to be a great deal of fun, especially when Harry turned his attentions against the Vampire threat facing the world.

The other Necromance, Dragosani (I think his name was), works for the KGB and literally disects people in his quest to control death. When Dragosani learns about Vampires, his natural thirst for power leads him further down the dark path as he seeks to forge an alliance with them. Dragosani is a thoroughly self-interested villain, willing to do anything to get what he wants (power). The ultimate consequence of his quest for power is one of the things I enjoyed most about this fine novel.

Finally about the Vampires. Vampires in this story aren't your traditional 'Count Dracula' villains. They are portrayed as much more intelligent and sinister, often co-existing with mankind for centuries with no one being the wiser. As the source of ultimate evil, they make a worthy opponent to Harry and the legions of undead that seem willing to do anything he asks of them. If you don't believe me, wait until you read the end of this story. It's one of the best endings I've ever read.

Summary: It all starts here...
Review: This is the beginning of a 13+ book saga, but trust me, if you're a fan of vampires, sci-fi, horror, ESP, and/or espionage, you'll love it. And want to start on the next in the series, it gets much better! This is just the tip of the iceberg, we are only introduced to a few vampires and a few "ESPers". More and more characters and "talents" are added every book. But you have to start at the beginning....

Summary: James Bond Meets Dracula
Review: Brian Lumley is a man balancing on the edge of insanity and absolute genius. After reading the first chapter of this book I could not put it down. I finished the book off in just a few days and quickly started the second in the series. I have to say I absolutely love them all and had a real hard time putting one down. I almost cried whenever I finished one because I did not want it to end. Each book in the series grabs you and holds you from beginning to end. Not only do I recommend this book to everyone out there, if I could I would buy a copy for every human being on the face of the planet.

Summary: I fell asleep reading this book...
Review: Having never read a vampire book before, I thought I would try this one based on the reccomendations I read here. I could get through only 1/5 of the book. It was so incredibly boring, overly (and strangely) descriptive, and very slow paced. When my boyfriend came over and noticed this book being used as a coaster, he started reading out of curiosity...his opinion? It is too formulaic. When I tried to give the book away to a friend, she read the first few pages while sitting on my sofa and ended up giving the book back to me, saying it was as generic as the cover illustration. :::shrug::: If you have a short attention span, or are new to vampire stories, I would definately pass on this.

Summary: Can I give this 0 stars?
Review: Man, I wish i could give this no stars. It's that bad. The char's are flat and have no depth to them. The reader nevers feels that they should care about what happens to them.

The book starts off with Harry as a child and what happens for the first 18 years of his life...which this could have been but out. There is no reason for the reader to know his early life.

Then we have Dragonansi, a evil neroscope who can talk to the dead. We learn about his early life and see him "meet" a "vampire" that's in the ground. Time passes and Dragonansi is older and comes back to the "vampire in the ground".

For me, the writing isn't that great. The paragraphs are long and dull, and seem to go on for pages, not saying anything.

Trust me, skip this book. If you see this in your local bookstore, run, don't walk away from this book. It's that bad.

I think I'm the only person who didn't like this book...there are so many other quality vampire books....this isn't one of them.

Summary: "Stiff, Plodding Story"
Review: The premise of the supernatural with a Cold War twist really intrigued me. Unfortunately, Mr. Lumley did not execute to my liking. I found the little bit of the book I read plodding, over descriptive and filled with stiff characters and dialogue.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Well written and exciting
Review: I have just finished the 5th in the Necroscope series and I have absolutely loved every one of them. This is the best series of books I have read in the last decade. If you like horro/scifi...get the first book and you will be hooked.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Pretty lame.
Review: If you are over 16 years old or somewhat intelligent, this book is not for you. I gained nothing from reading this "book". Was this a children's book? If so, change my rating to 2 stars.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Enthralled from the Start
Review: When I picked this book up from a friend's coffee table and began to read the first pages, I was hooked! As I read on, I was 'enthralled' by the characters and just couldn't put it down. Harry not only wins the hearts of the Great Majority but also the reader.

Each volume flows into the next so smoothly. Lumley is a wonderful artist. I have read 12 volumes and am anxiously awaiting 13 to be released in paperback!

A must read for anyone who loves to be wisked away to another place and time with real fear and awsome evil beaten by the good guys!
