Summary: A Great Read!
Review: "A Caress of Twilight" is the second instalment in Laurell K. Hamilton's new series about faerie Princess Meredith NicEssus, and it does not disappoint. This book picks up where the first of the series "A Kiss of Shadows" left off, and focuses on developing the intriguing characters we met in the fantastic first book. This is a sexy, dangerous, and fun-filled adventure that you won't want to miss!
In order to fully appreciate this novel, it is actually quite important to read "A Kiss of Shadows" first. This book jumps right into Merry's world without much preamble, and without the background from the first of the series, it would be tough to follow.
Meredith NicEssus, Princess of Flesh and co-heir to the Unseelie throne has returned to LA from her home in Illinois to continue her life as an investigator for Grey's Detective Agency. But she has not returned alone. Merry has brought five members of the Queen's royal guard and a half-sidhe goblin along with her. These fearsome and beautiful sidhe warriors are auditioning with pleasure for the role of future king, as Merry desperately tries to conceive a child in order to gain the throne.
Merry's evil and unbalanced cousin, Prince Cel, will do just about anything to keep Merry from becoming queen. Whoever can produce an heir first, Merry or Cel, will become the next Unseelie ruler. Luckily for Merry, she has a six-month head start while Cel undergoes a punishment for his crimes against her. But even with Cel out of the picture, Merry is far from safe. When Merry agrees to assist an exiled Seelie goddess, Maeve Reed, she angers the ruler of the Seelie court, King Taranis, who has forbidden any sidhe to have contact with Maeve.
In addition to this, a creature known as the Nameless, made up of all the most bizarre and formidable powers of all the Seelie and Unseelie fey has been set free. And chances are that someone has loosed this unstoppable monster in an attempt to murder Merry.
With all the danger she is in, Merry needs each and every one of her guards, who we really get to know in this book. I love all of Merry's men, and though she is intimate with six men, she has deep and sincere feelings for all of them. Hamilton has done a fabulous job in this book of fleshing out Merry's lovers. Doyle and Frost are my two favorites, and I just can't get enough of them. These two add great depth to the story. Rhys, Galen, and Nicca, the other three guards, are also very interesting characters. Another of my favorites is Kitto the goblin. He is sooo cute, and his growth throughout the novel was wonderful to see.
So, while Merry tries to stay alive, deals with Unseelie court politics and forms alliances, she is building some very complex and intimate relationships with her guards. And it is this bonding and the way Merry and the men interact, that makes this story so interesting. Hamilton has created a wonderful cast of characters in Merry's magical world. These characters are so skilfully rendered and so fascinating, that readers will desperately want to get to know them better.
I really enjoyed "A Caress of Twilight". Merry is an exceptional character who promises great things in books to come. You don't want to miss this new series; it is tons of thrilling and sensual fun, so buy both of Merry's books today!

Summary: Great characters,but
Review: As with all of her previous books, the characters, sex, and personal conflicts are wonderfully executed.Ms. Hamilton has a gift for creating wildly imaginative worlds and characters. I was anxiously waiting for this book and immediately sat and read it in one day. It was good, but the mystery plot was a little thin. I had the feeling that this could have been an exceptional book had more attention been given to the detective story line, instead it was a good continuance of Merry's story - more of a filler, rather than the exceptional stand alone book it could have been.

Summary: Woot!!
Review: I love the Anita Blake series. The first 4-5 books were great.. and yes, she has slumped a little in introducing new and interesting scenerios and character development HOWEVER no one can match this author for imagination and I'll happily continue looking forward to each Anita Blake book.

This is now my favorite series of hers though. Merry is a great character. The only stumbling block I have with her is her mortality. I sort of wish she was immortal. The Seelie and Unseelie courts are described more in depth in this second book. The various fay men who are Merry's guards are great! I'm half in love with Doyle and Frost. There is plenty of paranormal activity, action and adventure as well as romance, sex, violence, twists and turns.

Hopefully Merry won't get pregnant for a few books so I (we) can keep enjoying the assortment of consorts she's with in these first two...

If you like Laurell you should check out Charlaine Harris. Noone can compare with this (the Gentry books) series (in my opinion) but they sure are a fun read and help the wait until the next Hamilton books comes out.

Summary: As always, fabulous.
Review: I am a longtime fan of Ms. Hamilton's work, and was lucky enough to have the chance to interview her for Cinescape Magazine. CoT is yet another strongly written, well-plotted, entertaining, and sensual book. I highly recommend it, and all of Laurell's other works.

The only down sides to CoT is that it's too short, IMHO. Waiting a year plus for a book and finishing it in a day makes me sad. But the book is still great!

Summary: Snakes and Goblins and Dogmen, OH MY!
Review: I REALLY loved a Kiss of Shadows, the first book of this series. This book, though, left a little to be desired. LKH does unique sex scenes and provides great interaction between the characters and I think those points are what saved this book.

A Caress picks up where Kiss left off. Merry is half way secure about her surroundings now but surprises keep popping up. Her new found responsiblities are causing her to mature into a better and stronger character which is great considering what she will be going against later on in her life. One thing I wish that had been more in depth was the duty vs. love situation that she was finding herself in but maybe that will be covered well in the next book.

I would have given more stars had I not finished reading the book wondering what I had missed. I felt like I had skipped half the book and was left feeling half "involved" with the characters. Im the type of reader who loves to burrow into the characters head and feel and see everything along with her. It just didnt happen with this book. If you are a loyal LKH fan, give it a try and see what you think because you may feel differently. :)

Summary: blood blood blood
Review: okay, i get it. laurell hamilton has a "thing" about blood, I couldn't get through the vampire books, but i enjoyed the first merry gentry book. here, in the second merry gentry book, there is virtually NO plot, just slim connectors betweem sex scenes, most of them intended to be enlivened with the idea of sex with blood. it's weak, especially since i am sure, based on the writing itself, that the author can do much better. This book is a good exemplar of the truism that porn is just plain boring. the only thing distinguisning the beings merry has sex with from each other is the description of their bodies. It's too repetitive to be very interesting. how about some personality development and a real plot?

Summary: It was ok but it could have been better
Review: It was pretty good, not as good as some of her other works but a decent effort. I found myself confused at some points in the book especially about the Maeve charecter. There is a lot of hanky panky going on between Merry and the guys and of course there was a evil creature that needed to be destoryed. Overrall it was pretty good but some parts could have been a little better. If you are a true fan of LKH I highly recommend it, but I think the Anita Blake series is much better.

Summary: Just a great book

Summary: A Caress of Twilight
Review: Another disappointment from Laurell Hamilton! This is definitely not worth buying the hardcover...you can wait for this one in paperback! Lately, Ms. Hamilton's books are showing signs of being too popular. I can see an intent to draw out these stories - with each book only offering a peek into a few days - with an ending that implies that the reader must buy the next book. The mystery was not intriguing either, I fell asleep reading this one a number of times. Although the characters are basically the same (with many missing from this book by the way), the reader doesn't learn anything new about Merry and her beaus. Pity the reader that picks this book up before A Kiss in Shadows...they will be very confused. My only advice - wait for the paperback!

Summary: Slow paced story
Review: The premise of this book (and its predecessor) is great: fairy princess as hardboiled detective in L.A. Her non-monogamous relationship with a variety of supernatural guardians is an interesting plus. However, this novel moves very slowly. It is painfully obvious that Ms. Hamilton is planning to stretch Meredith's story over a long series of books and is taking her time in doing so. It is awkward when a character in a book written in the first person stops to describe herself and her beauty in detail. There were too many scenes involving her sitting on the bed, in various stages of dress or undress, having magic mirror telephone calls. The actual plot of the novel was quite thin.
