Summary: Entertaining, yet silly...but it is a fast paced, fun read.
Review: "Seize the Night", and its prequel "Fear Nothing" are Koontz at his silliest (especially the time travel thing) but both books kept me reading...mostly due to a sense of fun throughout. The characters are colorful and there is some good action (love the killer monkeys), but I wish Koontz would stick to his darker, scarier stuff like "Intensity" which I consider to be his masterwork or the great techno-thriller "Dark Rivers of the Heart". I consider these (written back to back) to be Koontz's best work...and I know he's capable of weightier stuff than "Seize the Night". Still...if you're a Koontz fan, its a must read. If not, you'll still enjoy it. I admit, I am looking forward to the final installment...but lets hope Dean returns to the fine form demonstrated a few years ago. -Sam Raimi, Chicago IL.

Summary: Cowabunga Dude, where's a tidal wave when you need one?
Review: I'm sorry, but this mess must have been written by another Dean Koontz, because the one I have read for years couldn't have possibly written this one and the previous "Fear Nothing". I'd be afraid to mention any part of the plot for fear of giving something away, but no one would believe all these bizarre things were connected. I read the book and I don't believe they're connected either! And the surfer lingo!I annoyed me to no end and I grew up on the beaches of So. Calif. Will I read the next one in the series? Probably, because I don't give up easily. Will Koontz tie everything up in a tight little package? I highly doubt it.

Summary: Older The Better
Review: I liked his older works better. They seem more extreme and out there. But nevertheless I liked Seize the Night and Fear Nothing. Snow is a wonderful character.

Summary: This could be his best
Review: When all is done in this trilogy this could be Koontz's best work by far. No other novel shares these use of language and well constructed dialogue. The end of seize the night was confusing as the end of Fear Nothing was disappointing, but as far as I can tell the disappointing ending of FEar nothing was not nearly as disappointing when I understood the story better by reading fear nothing. The dog from Watchers was referred to in Fear Nothing correct? These experiments revolve around the same kind of stuff. What I like about seize the night was that the government actually backed down from the horror they'd thought would help everyone. In book three when the entire plot should be revealed this will probably stand as one of the best series written in the late twentieth century

Summary: I thought this book was GREAT!!!
Review: Reading some of the other reviews, you'd think Dean had jumped off the deep end!! But I say NAY!! This book was excellent!! Christopher Snow gets better by the book, not to mention the charisma between he and his friends. I loved how Dean got into the surfer lingo, he seemed like he had fun writing it and I KNOW I had fun reading it!! I can't wait to see what happens to all of them next! Keep writing Dean...you're the BEST!!

Summary: Mystery Train not yet at its destination
Review: Three quarters of the way through Seize the Night, I wondered how on earth Mr Koontz was going to tie up all the loose threads of the story; and then it dawned on me that this is but Part Two of a trilogy. Yes, the story was fun, but as with Fear Nothing, because this is a first-person narrative and the main characters are referred to in the present tense, the level of suspense is fairly low. Compare that, if you will, to Phantoms, where the reader is kept on edge trying to guess who will live and who will die. In addition, the good guys are smart, handy with firearms, intensely loyal and never at a loss for a witty rejoinder - how can they lose? As I said, this was fun; however, I can't help wishing the writer will come back from his holiday in Moonlight Bay (so to speak) and write us something really mean and moody for the millennium. 6/03/99

Summary: If you think you will like this book, wait before buying
Review: The reviews are quite mixed on this book and its predecessor. (Be very careful when reading them if you don't like spoilers). I liked both, although I admit that listening on tape helped get by some of the endless narrative (the only reason I rated 4, not 5). I didn't mind the surfer lingo - hey, these are surfers, aren't they? I just LOVED the characters, every one of them (the good guys, I mean).

But my advice is... If you think you will like this book, wait until the sequel is available to read it. Otherwise you may be tempted to throttle Mr. Koontz like I am, when the story stops practically in mid-sentence. This happened to me once over 10 years ago when I read "A Mirror of her Dreams". I dragged my husband out in a snowstorm to get "A Man Rides Through". Unfortunately, there is nowhere to go to get the next installment of this yet. How annoying. If I had known, I would have waited.

Summary: Koontz continues to write enthralling and compelling prose.
Review: Seize the Night, the continuation of Chris Snow's fight against the evil force engulfing Moonlight Bay is, as I have come to expect, compelling and intelligently written. Mr. Koontz's prose with its imaginative and at time humorous analogies is what I look forward to when I read his work. Congratualtions on the continued references to earlier titles, as in"Orson, untouched and alive," a nod to the much enjoyed INTENSITY. I am a recent convert to the writings of Mr. Koontz and have read at this point only four of his amazing body of works, while at least six lay waiting for me to discover the mysteries contained within. After Sieze the Night I look forward to his next volume with great anticipation. NOTE TO MR. KOONTZ: no Nancy Drew was not a solitary investigator. Remenber her faithful sidekick George?

Summary: a little bit confused
Review: It is amazing how I tried to like this book. I tried really hard. The two main characters were at times silly. The whole supernatural occurence in this particular house were a little bit strange. It does not always have to be a happy ending, so next time let the guy die... The confusion with the blood... Does anyone really believe that the children would stay so calm... Well, I still have mixed feelings but I have to give Dean Koonz some credit.

Summary: DEAN, SHUT UP AND TELL THE STORY
Review: I like Dean Koontz a lot but I wanted to shoot myself as I was reading this book. He gets to the point where you feel like Dean just likes hearing himself talk. It was distracting and annoying. It diminishes an otherwise good story.
