Rating: Summary: Carpe noctum Review: Dean Koontz has done it again, completing another epic from The Snowman. "Sieze the night" was a ride along the Mystery Train. This story has you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. If you liked "Fear nothing" and like chillers this is the book for you! And remember Carpe crustulorum!
Rating: Summary: Wild night ride with the Moonlight Bay adventurers Review: Continuing the adventures of Christopher Snow, Orson, Bobby and Sasha, "Seize the Night" moved so quickly I read it in one sitting. It was like a movie, experiencing everything in one night, but Koontz, as ever, goes beyond the mere adventure/thriller/horror theme. Its predecessor, "Fear Nothing", brought us the story of what's happening in Moonlight Bay. "Seize the Night" focuses more on the friendship and emotions of the characters; we get to know them better (except Orson, who's kidnapped and hidden for most of the book). And these definitely are people I'd like to know, and have as friends! The geek-speak and general banter worked for me - that's basically how my friends and I speak to each other, and that made the whole story more real. The surfer lingo was a plus. It made their conversations much more fun. Koontz's message that love, friendship and caring for one's fellow man are the most important things in life is familiar to most of his readers - it's a theme he's carried through many of his books, such as "Watchers", "Strangers", "Intensity", "Mr Murder", etc. And his characterisation is as wonderful as ever. As with his other books, I felt really comfortable with the characters, and I was concerned about what would happen to them. And the pace of the book, the scary situations, the action and adventure added to the thrill! The monkeys are back and as aggressive as ever, if not more so, while the mysterious figure from "Fear Nothing" shows itself, although it's as much of a mystery as ever (and a reminder of the Outsider in "Watchers". The way in which the residents of Moonlight Bay are changing is described more fully, and the way in which it's changing people who were "good" guys in "Fear Nothing" into villains is made chillingly clear. In fact, this book seems more like a movie on paper! I can't wait to see what the third installment will bring, and how the world will end in Mr Koontz's hands. One thing, though - try to read "Fear Nothing" before you read this book. That's where the characters are developed. "Seize the Night" is written with the understanding that the reader has met them all before, and has learned the basis of the story. Trust me, it'll make far more sense!
Rating: Summary: Horrible book! Review: The story line isn't all that bad, but the book is filled with "surfer" lingo that Koontz feels the need to explain. Reading all these definitions gets tiresome and sort of breaks the flow of the action. It's really hard to get into and way too easy to put down.
Rating: Summary: A Real Rollercoaster Ride! Review: I equate the pacing of this book with skiing downhill at the hairy edge of control. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of the seemingly arbitrary addition of an unbelievable antagonist. It added nothing to the story.
Rating: Summary: Has it already started? Review: I hope you don't get the wrong impression from this review. I'm a HUGE fan of Koontz' writing! I've read and own over fifteen of his books, bigginning with Watchers and ending with Seize the Night. I read Strangers in three days! Leave it said, " I admire his work." But Seize the Night was nothing less than confusing. I was 100 pages in before I realized the story had begun 95 pages before. I'm used to Koontz delving into the psyches of his characters early on, in the first dozen pages, but here I got hardly nothing. Now the action sequences and tech. speak I was totally into. But, throw in the surf lingo and now you're speakin' Greek. I'm willing to give it the benifit of the doubt, seeing as I've yet to read the first in the Snow series, Fear Nothing. So if you give it a couple of weeks and check out my review of Fear Nothing, I'm completely prepared to do a 180°. So keep it real and carpe noctem!
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: Rubbish. This book was overly long and could easily have been halved and therefore more interesting if he didn't keep using two pages to describe something as menial as a lamp. It's all well and good having a vivid imagination but rabbiting on about how vivid it is and then imposing it on your poor reader is unfair and makes for an irritating and boring read!
Rating: Summary: A little better than the first one Review: The first of this Moonlight Bay Trilogy, Fear of Flying, was excellent. This one is a little better. I liked the way Mr. Koontz portrayed Bobby Holloway, Chris' best friend. He got more part than the first book, eventhough I kinda missed Orson, the dog, since in this book he was kidnapped. I finished this in two days -- would be one if I'm not jammed with uni stuffs -- and I can't wait for the conclusion. Hope Mr. Koontz will hurry up....
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: This is the first Dean Koontz book I have read. It will likely not be the last. The narration is detailed and creates a vivid picture of the setting and the action. The narrative style allows for some amusing commentary from the main character. The story was so riviting that I found myself looking over my shoulder and wondering if I was caught in the same strange circumstances as the characters. I finished this book in record time and found hard to put down. An enjoyable read!
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down Review: This is a thriller from the first page to the last. The story takes place over a short time period, jam-packed with scariness and imagery that will keep you on the edge. I haven't seen anything quick like this in the horror market. For awhile the Koontz books were starting to read alike - But not this one. Don't miss it.
Rating: Summary: Edge of your seat action Review: I have read some scathing reviews of this book, and I don't know where they came from! I have not read Fear Nothing yet, and Koontz does such a great job of bringing you an up-to-the-minute review of what happened. I, of course, will run out as soon as I can to buy Fear Nothing. Seize the Night was my first Koontz book, and it came close to "King Calliber". I started it Sunday night, and here I am, Mid-Tuesday, reviewing it. It really is a "page-burner". I look forward to reading more Koontz. I have Intensity in front of me at the moment, and, after I finish that, ON TO FEAR NOTHING! I can't wait for the conclusion to come out! Koontz keeps you in constant suspense.
