Rating: Summary: Once you start it's hard to stop. Review: Koontz can make you feel for Joe and the way he writes in such discription of the plane crash and what thoughts migh have been going on in Joes families head brought me to tears. Bringing the government into it brought intirge and suspense, the wanting to quickly turn the page to see what ill fate would happen to the next group of people Joe met while on his journey to find answers. I read this this book in just a few days.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: Not to repeat prior reviews, but this had a lot of suspense to it. Why were these (all of sudden happy people) killing themselves? The only thing I didn't like was Rose dying. Mr. Koontz told us in his story that Nina brought a bird back to life, but he did mention that Nina was still young and didn't know all of her powers. Yet, she was able to transport herself and Rose out of the plane into some other dimension. So, in my view point she was powerful enough to heal Rose.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful, edgy and scary Review: This is one of Koontz' best piece of fiction to date. The idea of the conspiracy theory involving the government and plane crashes is a very challenging subject for an author to depict in writing. The suspense starts from Chapter 1 and doesnt give up till the last page. A must read for any Koontz fans.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book!! A Must Read! Review: This is an extremly well written novel. Each character is well described and you develop a sense of knowing them, and feeling what they are feeling. Koontz is a master story teller, a very intelligent author, and anyone can relate to the emotions, feelings, and events that he describes in his stories. Once you start reading Sole Survivor, you are hooked. A great novel!!
Rating: Summary: Keep at it Dean! Review: I enjoyed Sole Survivor, but it certainly wasn't his best novel. Just when the story would start to become interesting and put you on the edge of your seat, the outcome would be a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: One of The Worst Books I've ever read Review: I was forced to read this book for a book club I belong to and I hated it from start to finish. These characters were so one dimensional, I had no sympathy for Joe and as the book went on only found the character whiney and annoying. I had to force myself to finish the book because I just didn't care what would happen to Joe. The story was predictable and unbelievable and the writing was just plain bad. The worst was when Joe is described as having a panic attack in his car, Koonz writes: Of course Joe was not in the airplane as it crashed, he was only having a panic attack. No kidding! I couldn't help but think many of the gory scenes were only for shock value, they did nothing to make me sympathetic to the characters. We never did find out why someone would videotape their own (or someone else's) suicide. It seems only so it could be described to us in gory detail. Many of the scenes seemed disturbing for no good reason, and I began to feel resentful at having to read them. This was my first Dean Koonz book and will be my last.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating Read, Great Characters ... Signature Koontz Review: This book is one of the best I've read in a long time. Koontz seamlessly blends emotional literature with heart pounding violence and characters we actually care about. I read from 10 o'clock one night and finished it at 2. Non-stop excitement.
Rating: Summary: GREAT!! A PAGE BURNER!!! Review: SOLE SURVIVOR WAS THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN A LONG TIME. I STARTED TWO DAYS AGO AND PICKED IT UP EVERY CHANCE I GOT. I COULDNT GET ENOUGH. I FELT AS THOUGH I KNEW THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK AND HAD FEELINGS FOR ALL OF THEM. THE STORY MAKES YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT LIFE!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A Great Suspense Novel Review: Reading all of these reviews is pretty funny . . . I guess it proves what my father said when I was a kid and people disagreed: "that's what makes horse races"! I thought this book was excellent. Very suspensful and gripping, and well written. Frankly, I find the criticisms hard to understand.
Rating: Summary: I found no thrills... Review: Many would expect from Dean Koontz a novel that would have them sitting at the edge of their seats, the thrill of the novel pumping adrenline through their bodies. To me, Sole Survior was almost like an (excellent) attempt at a mystery novel. I found it to be extremely enjoyable. I could not put it down. I could really feel sympathy with Joe Carpenter; his conflicts and his plight really helps the reader sympathize with him. If you only read books to sit on the edge of your seat, this is not going to be for you. If you want some mystery, read this book. If you can't read Koontz books because you are faint of heart, then here is a book you can read. Try it, you may find yourself coming back for more.
