Summary: The more things change, the more they stay the same . . .
Review: Dear Ms. Rice,

With the Vampire Chronicles, you have brought to your readers a better expression of the relationship between the lover and his beloved than Plato, Mann, Kundera or just about ANYONE could ever have dared to dream of creating. And you had it right all along: ALL things change, except Christ's, (excuse me, Lestat's) love for us (I mean, Louis). Timeless, sexless, beyond human comprehension, and utterly heartbreaking. You can stray away from time to time and involve yourself in frivolous pursuits (like Merrick), but please, go home: to Lestat and his immortal beloved, Louis. You know the way!

Summary: Anne Rice Gets Back to Her Fantastic Writing Form
Review: Anne Rice has done it again! I think that her illness has helped her by creating fresh ideas to write about. What a better idea than to have the Witches meet the Vampires. I disagree with other viewer's remarks that these ideas are stupid, lack depth, etc. I think that Anne Rice is a excellent story-teller and I can definitely believe that a world with vampires and witches exists-it's puts one right in the action. I think that this book, "Merrick" is also the best book since "Memnoch the Devil" and "The Tale of the Body Thief". I did not like her last two short mini-novels, "Pandora" and " The Vampire Armand". They lacked substance and originality. Keep it up, Anne Rice!!

Summary: Vampire Voodoo
Review: As a great fan of Anne Rice, I too anxiously awaited the next vampire book. The book is hard to follow, and I do not recommend it to someone who has not read previous Anne Rice books. As for someone who has followed the legacy, the book is a wonderful read. It is not just a vampire story, this one involves black magic, voodoo and spirits. It is deeply involved, and is more understandable if you have dabbled in the witchcraft area. I thought the book was great and the characters all come to life.

Summary: Vampires and Witch Summit Meeting
Review: Anne Rice continues two of her serialized sagas, the Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches, in this new novel, easily one of her most accessible efforts and a fast, rip-roaring fun read. Vampire/body thief and one time paranormal investigator for the centuries old group, the Talamasca, David Talbot returns to tell the story of Merrick, a beautiful Creole witch from her childhood to full, ripe young womanhood. The Vampire Lestat and the debonair Louis also return in a rapidly paced yarn that will have you turning the pages faster than you want to. A couple of times Rice had me wondering if this wasn't really a true story, and the plot twists are surprising and satisfying. It ends too soon, but not without promise of yet another installment to come. Anne Rice is a prolific writer who rewards loyal readers every time.

Summary: The Blending of Two Worlds....And it Works
Review: This is a wonderful book. Anne Rice weaved a colorful story. I found it rich and very addictive. I could not put it down.(it only took me a few days to finish it.) It brings back or mentions many of the characters from The Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches. It's like visiting old friends.

I love this book. It's my favorite book since The Witching Hour.

Summary: Lestat Lives!
Review: Here it is...our long awaited hero has returned. Granted, he does not return until the very end of the novel, but never-the-less, I found the story to be refreshing, exciting and enjoyable. (Especially because Louis played such a major role throughout the book) People need not be so critical of Rice, I feel she has done a fine job of setting the stage for Lestat to once again resume his role as our dashing Prince of Darkness. Look for good things to come!

Summary: Riveting & Refreshing!
Review: As a devout fan of The Vampire Chronicles and the Mayfair Witches, Merrick, as a combination of the two, was a dream come true!

I was most intrigued by Anne Rice's insight into the world of mulattos and ocotoroons and creepy Voodoo practices. Her descriptions are so vivid and on target you have to wonder if her experiences are first hand!

As usual though, you have to dig out your previous "Chronicles" to keep up with the action-- a minor pitfall if you haven't read "Tales of the Body Thief" or "Memnoch the Devil".

I was spellbound by Merrick and couldn't put it down until I had finished it in two days!! And although the ending was not what I was looking for, I immediately went online to locate all the Chronicles and Mayfair witches I didn't have.

I will most likely re-read this one again and again while I anxiously await the next installment!

Happy reading!

Summary: Classic Rice, BUT...
Review: As usual, Rice's delicious prose and unparalleled character development are top notch. The plot is engaging and intriguing. It's truly another Rice masterpiece that deserves it's place in the canon of modern American literature.

The only way in which this novel is a disappointment is to those readers who desperately are seeking either more Mayfair drama or a unification between the preternatural worlds that Rice has narrated. Yes, Merrick is a Mayfair. But she's one we've never seen, and she's seemingly unrelated to those Mayfairs that have won so many readers' hearts. By the end of the novel, of course you'll fall in love with Merrick, and be grateful to have her in you library. But what of Rowan, Michael, and Mona? Wouldn't it be more interesting to see how these witches would relate to Merrick, a voodooienne octaroon cousin?

It's an astonishing and powerful book, but if you're looking for more of the Mayfairs or hopingbeggingpraying for some kind of interaction between the Vampires and the Witches, you won't find it here. Hopefully, Rice is using this as a teasing precursor of great things to come.

Summary: Amazingly Done.
Review: What an amazing book. The last few books were good but didn't live up to that standard I expected from Anne Rice, but this one completely blew me away. It was was a wonderful addition to the Chronicles with interesting turns and twists and a extremly cool ending. I must say this is a must read for all Anne's fans. Cheers!

Summary: A must read!
Review: I have to say that at first I thought, 'Oh it's not those Mayfair witches' but now I say 'WHO CARES!' This book is so much more than 5 stars, the combo of everything is great. The intro to voodoo is very interesting and I hope to read more on that subjsct from Anne. The end is the best, I cannot wait for the next, Go Anne Go!
