Summary: just can't......
Review: I just can't get into this book. I'm trying, because Rice is one of my favourite author. What's wrong with me,? I read the chronicles in neat succession, I was dissapointed with Violin and then Rice completely redeemed herself with 'Feast...'. I don't get how this ghost guy (thing) can just walk into this guy's cabin and the old guy is not even shocked or anything he just acts all normal! i'm waiting for the Black death to happen, I get nauseous when the bones are mentioned! Ok, i'll try again, but another thing, why are all the male characters half bisexuals in her books! (its' true!) off to read now!

Summary: Nothing beats audio for a mediocre book
Review: The audio tapes of Servant of the Bones had a heavy discount in the shop so I bought them almost on impulse. What a great idea!! It meant I wouldnt have to read such drivel!! In fact, listening to someone read the book is great and I really do feel sorry for all the people that had to put up with reading the story. And what a story!! It was going so well! I was really hooked! It was only towards the end after listening for over three hours that I realised Ms Rice must have suddenly given up on this book, given up on the plot, given up on the characters and just ended the whole build-up with a plot straight out of a mickey mouse comic; leaving me feeling bitterly cheated. How could you do it Anne? If I wanted this type of insult I would have watched an Austin Powers film. Dr Evil - at least HE is convincing!

Summary: Servant of the Bones is a great book to read.
Review: In Anne Rice's number one bestseller, Servant of the Bones, she writes about Azriel, a ghost who is bent on revenge. The book first takes place in the present time, the year 1995, then goes back to anchient Babylon to explain the origin of Azreil and back again. She has a real gift of describing everything so vividly that one would have no trouble seeing it in their mind. The combination of spirits with a sense of mystery really brought the book to life. The book brings to mind the questions often asked about heaven and hell, do they really exsist? To find out this and more read Servant of the Bones and experience the mystery for yourself.

Summary: Azriel's tale is nothing but tedious dialogue!
Review: I started this book a couple of days ago because I thought Rice would put me in the mood for Halloween--was I WRONG!! The cover promised a tale that took you through several interesting historical eras--instead it BORES you through those eras. Only a brief section of the book took you into the time of the Black Death, I don't know why they even mentioned it on the cover. Azriel has tediously similar dialogues over and over which finally caused me to start skimming the book in the hopes I would get to something interesting!! It NEVER happened I remained uninterested until the bitter end. Unlike the reviewer who took two years to read it, I read it with the speed of light because there was nothing to savor! This book was garbage and that is where I threw it when I thankfully finished. I would have given it half a star or less if that was an option.

Summary: It wasn't all that bad
Review: I was pleasantly surprised with this book, as I had only heard bad things about it. But I felt it my duty as an A.R. fan to at least give it a try. The beginning was a little slow and hard to get into (and I had just finished reading one of the best Stephen King books I had ever read, which made the reading of this book a little tedious), the dialogue was kind of boring and hard to get into also. But, the further I read, the more exciting the plot began to get. However, there are two distinct things I DID NOT like about this book and they are as follows. Although I find A.R. to be an extremely talented novelist, I think her husband Stan is a completely UNTALENTED poet, and I don't understand why she insisted on putting his poetry in this and any other of her books, when the subject matter is not even close to relevant and the prose is completely pretentious. Also, I think she needs to steer away from the "interviewer, interviewee" form of storytelling. Granted, it worked very well with the vampire series, but ENOUGH ALREADY! Just MHO. Overall though, the book was not that bad, and if you have the patience, gets better at the end. Good enough for die hard fans.

Summary: Not the worst, and nowhere near her best...
Review: I have read most of her books and have begun The Witching again just recently. This isnt her worst (and there are a couple) but I just could not get excited about this book. It seemed to repeat its dilemmas alot. She should have focused more on the evil modern day doings. If you have to read all her books then go for it....

Summary: A slow read at first but the pace soon picks up.
Review: I bought this book quite by accident although I had vowed not to read anything of Anne Rice except for her vampire trilogy due to prior disappointments on her other novels. The first chapters were a bit of a struggle to get through but once Azriel settles down with his meeting with Jonathan and began pouring out his tale, it was deliciously mystic and dark. As always, Anne Rice's characters seem to have had noble beginnings, and this was no exception with Azriel. I was breath taken when Azriel was made into the Servant of the Bones. It all seemed to happen so quickly that I had to re-read the excerpt twice over to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I'm glad I didn't give up with the book when I read the first few chapters otherwise I would have missed out on this brilliant luscious dark tale. I think I'll give Anne's other novels a second chance now.

Review: I have read every one of Rice's books from Interview with the Vampire forward. I bought this book on her name and reputation alone. That is the last time I will make that mistake. This is an abysmal book. Save your money.

Summary: Refreshing
Review: I have read many books, but I have never read one so new to me. The subject matter was exciting and brand new to me. Just the idea of writing a book on the idea of haveing the Servant of the Bones is a great idea. I have to say that the middle part was a little boreing from time to time, but the ending was great. I was not expecting to have a person ttry and take over the world through his religios followers. Overall this book keep me on my toes.

Summary: Surprisingly...Fairly Good
Review: O.K., as a loyal Anne Rice fan, I feel that it is my honor, priveledge, and, yes, obligation to do a review. This was the very last Anne Rice book that I hadn't read. (Except for Vittorio which, though it breaks my heart to say it, was so awful I couldn't get through it). The Servent of the Bones sat unread on my book shelf while I finished off The Vampire Chronicles, The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, The Mummy, Cry to Heaven, and the Feast of All Saints. After a long period of waiting, (I was afraid to read this book for fear that it might be as bad as Vittorio and therefore shake my faith in Rice again), I finally picked this book up. And to my great surprise, I found that this book was indeed fairly good. (Which I'm sure you have all read in my one-line summary, but I thought you all might like the whole tale if perhaps you had nothing better to do on a Saturday night other than organize your sock draw). So, if you're hooked on Rice, this book is worth it. Hopefully it'll hold you over to the new one in the fall. Thank you for your time.
