Rating: Summary: VERY Different Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As usual in King's (and Koontz's) books, the characters do sometimes get a little unbelievable, but are still highly enjoyable. One aspect of this book I particularly appreciated was the breaking of the age barrier. I liked that our hero and heroine were portrayed as "hip" characters, and the high level of respect King garners for them. The subject matter was fascinating and unusual. As usual, when reading horror, I was little horrorfied, except for one thing: the realization that the lines between good and evil regarding death and the supernatural were beginning to blur for me, which gave me some food for thought.
Rating: Summary: A good book but Not his best! Review: This is a good book but it takes way too long to get going! There are 600 and some pages and I didn't know the point of the book until 400! But it is worth reading. Steven King has an imagination!
Rating: Summary: Not your run-of-the-mill King Review: I loved this novel! The idea of the "rope" auras and levels of live differed strongly from King's usual, graphic horror. I found it almost refreshing to have one of his works discourse on the ancient myth of Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.
Rating: Summary: AWFUL! STAY AWAY! Review: First off, I'm a big ol King fan, dont get me wrong. I had high high hopes for this book. I mean, judging from what the description on back said, it sounded way cool! So I went to the library and got the big ol hardcover edition that was just HUGE! Well, I got about, oh, one or two hundred pages into it and it just got so, "Blah!". It was boring, and just went no where.. Now, some of the descriptions of the scissor dudes and the auras, that was ok. But it just did NOT keep me interested.. I read it all the way through. It was torture. It just did not work at all. I was so thankful I got it from the library and didnt waste MY money on it. Please, I advise you to do the same or! : JUST SAY NO! :o) Youve been warned! Go get Desperation or The Green Mile!
Rating: Summary: I was very disappointed Review: I am a Stephen King fan of old, and Insomnia is the only book of his I have ever read that I had to wade through. It started off really well, then lost me after page 100 or so. I spoke with another friend who simply stopped reading it and never finished it. I must say though that he thoroughly redeemed himself (not that he really needed redemption) with Desperation. He still is and will remain my favourite author.
Rating: Summary: Don't believe what it says on the back of the book! Review: This book isn't bad, but it's not great either. The story that I read was nothing at all like the description on the back cover! I liked the characters, and I liked how Stephen King wrote about older peole, because the elderly world of whatever that town was called was pretty funny! But, I just couldn't get into the book, and I never finished. I came about 100 pages or so short. Maybe I missed out on something, and in that case, I'll go back and reread it someday, and try to stick around to the end. But not for awhile...I am finishing up The Stand, and NO BOOK CAN COMPARE! I don't know if I'll be able to read ANYTHING for awhile after reading such a fantastic book! Whoops, wrong book review! Anyway, I wouldn't recommend Insomnia unless fantasy is your thing, or you are a die-hard Stephen King fan.
Rating: Summary: UNFORTUNATELY, IT DIDN'T KEEP ME AWAKE Review: Great concept. Great characters. Great writing (as usual). But sometimes King goes off on tangents just when all I want to do is find out what happens next.... but not 13 pages later. This happens too often in "Insomnia". Trim the fat, Mr. King.
Rating: Summary: Another piece of the puzzle....... Review: As I read more King, I find that I have to re-read more King. Insomnia, like all of his books, stands well on its own, and, like many of his books, ties and relates to other stories in the "unified King theory." The story did slow down in spots, but I still couldn't put it down. Insomnia is recommended to anyone, especially fans of King.
Rating: Summary: What an awesome book! Review: This book was totally made for me. It made me wonder if everybody had auras, and what mine looked like. I loved the happy/sad ending!
Rating: Summary: Insomnia was potentially good, but seemed too disorganized. Review: The book started off great with good character development and soom intriguing occurrences, but then it seems to fall apart. The plot drags on and on, with no real twists and turns. Also, the book is loaded with unnecessary characters and small events, which leads the reader to wonder why King wrote certain sections of the novel. This book could have been really good had it been 300 pages long, not 800.
