Summary: Spellbinding
Review: When I bought _Obsidian Butterfly_ I wasn't sure if it was worth reading, but after the first paragraph I was hooked. I couldn't put it down for more than a minute without wondering what was going to happen. I don't know who scared me more in the story, the "monsters", Edward or Olaf. Each one made me want to jump out of my skin at different points, but I had to keep on reading. _Obsidian Butterfly_ is a must read for any Science Fiction fan, whether you're into Star Wars or Robert Jordan, you'll enjoy this book.

Summary: Better and better!
Review: Ok, I don't usually write a review for a single book. This is a commentary on the series. Right off the bat I was attracted to the the setting. Laurell intregued me with a world that has the fantastic monsters of world legend- vampires are only the most prevelent. (Hey- they got the right to vote! But if the polls close before 5PM, then how...? Hmmm.) I believe she has given us readers an exellent world to explore. By throwing in the strong willed character of Anita Blake, who is tough-as-nails Animater, and P.I. The readers are brought in when Anita is only just discovering that there is a hole in her life, and a sensual depth is discovered. This is slowly, realistically explored by Anita and well, Laurell keeps the story interesting! Obsidian Butterfly is the longest of the Anita blake stories. At no time did I feel the book was padded in any way. If anything I would have liked to have seen more depth on certain scenes and characters. Then again, seeing as how we got to find out about Death (it's a nickname...not the incarnate!) the book is darn good! I'll add this last note. The intensity of the writing of Anita's life changing moments, throughout the series, are so very clear and moving, it makes me wonder if it was cathartic for Laurell. The writing is that good.

Review: Laurell K. Hamilton has got to be one of the best writers I have ever come across. Her characters are so believable and you just wish that you could meet Anita Blake in person. Assuming of coures she was in a good mood and you werent on her list. Ms Hamilton has skill I wish to attain one day and I have almost every book she has written. I cant wait to get her newest book. If I had one thing to tell my readers ... it would be to read Laurell K. Hamilton. They wont regret it.

Summary: Edward's Story At Last!
Review: I had never heard of the Anita Blake series until a month ago when it became came up on the Amazon discussion boards-romance section. To fellow reviewers JP and Joss, thank you for letting me know about this fascinating series, I'm sure my eye doctor thanks you also since I have killed my eyes reading all nine books in two weeks. Obsidian Butterfly is the 9th book featuring Anita Blake, vampire executioner and animator. Edward, the mysterious assassinator who has made several appearances in previous books, gets his own story, and what a story it is! Edward calls on a favor owed to him by Anita. No questions asked, Anita goes to his aid and finds a side of Edward she didn't know existed. Side one is the cold-blooded killer she knows, but side two is Edward's second identity as a bounty hunter who is engaged to be married to a widow with two children. There is something terrorizing people, it skins its victims and takes parts of the bodies. Those who are lucky, die from this assault. Those who are unlucky, end up in the hospital in horrible shock and pain. Edward calls in favors to help him find out what it is and to destroy it before it kills many more. Thrown into this mess, are two other assassinators who owe Edward favors. Apparently people don't refuse to repay Edward the favors they owe him, not if they want to live. One is called Olaf, and frankly, he scared the daylights out of me. He is truly one sick individual who takes enjoyment from terrorizing and brutalizing people. As the way things stand, I'm sure we will be seeing Olaf again. While I was fascinated by this story, part of me was disappointed we didn't see the other two main characters play a larger part in the story. Let's face it, there aren't many compelling characters as Jean-Claude, master vampire and Richard the Alpha wolf. Final word, don't expect this story to follow the former books. Laurell K. Hamilton takes us out of the dark underworld of vampires and werewolves and shows us that evil exists on the outside.

Summary: More fun than games
Review: This is one of the better Anita Blake novels. The plot is good, the characters are very good, and pacing is fast. I'm never bored reading about her, although the little catch phrases that the author uses continually are getting old after nine novels. A novel without Richard and Jean Claude, especially after she finally reached a peace with Richard. It's very good, but slightly disappointing after "Blue Moon".

Review: Just read Obsidian Butterfly & found this bk a great companion to the series. Laurell--hurry & write more. I read to fight stress of everyday life & these bks take me away. While I missed Richard & Jean-Claude, I liked learning more about the mysterious Edward. Never being sure where the story was going to end up or who would survive kept me interested to the end. I still do not consider these bks romance or sci-fi or even totally fantasy but whatever they are, I really do enjoy them.

Review: This is a gross dark book. OK, I read it, I guess because I've read the others. The living dead loose in an infant nursery, sucking out tiny baby's tummies. Not my idea of a good read. I've also lived in Santa Fe for 30 years and the setting could have been much better done with just a few days research. The names kept bugging me Baco did she want Baca? It was a bunch a little stuff like that. We looked at Edward, but totally left out the boys, too bad...

Review: Rather than talk about the story of the book, which I really don't get anyway--if you're reading a review, don't you want to get some idea of whether the reviewer likes the story, the author, the characters...rather than get a scoop on the story--I'm going to talk about what I like about these books. First, Obsidian Butterfly is number nine in the series, so go back and get all the others and read them in order. Two, these books are really not for kids, or at the very least not for young kids. Though I doubt this warning will mean much to many people, I think it needs including in a review. The Anita Blake books are great! They take you on a wild ride into an alternate world where everything is pretty much the same, except that vampires, ghosts, fairies, werewolves and zombies are for real, along with a host of other creatures. And they usually are not all that nice. Sometimes these creatures need killing, which is something Anita is good at. Maybe too good. If you're not a fan of the idea that someone who kills and doesn't really mind the killing can still be one of the good guys, well, you might not like these books. Most people probably accept that in real life good people must sometimes do bad things. Anita just goes overboard a bit. Anita's struggles with this moral dilemma, and her struggles with her, umm, romances, are one of the many things that make these books such great reads. Hamilton does a wonderful job of bringing this very complex person to life, and writes a good tale to keep us entertained. The secondary characters are really well-drawn as well, and are a delightful mix of good and not so good people. I've just finished the ninth Anita Blake, and I'm very eager to read the new series the author just started. Enjoy!
