Summary: Rush Job
Review: Uncompromising, moralistic, stubborn, determined - these are all adjectives which have been applied to the character of Anita Blake in the past. Unfortunately, they can no longer be applied with the same degree of accuracy. Anita Blake has been a favorite of mine since the beginning of the series, in no small part because of her tenacity, because of the consistent refusal on the part of the author to have her character cave for the sake of expediency. In the past, Hamilton took the extra minute, thought hard, and found a solution which allowed Anita to maintain her code of honor while managing to survive. Well, not any more. Obsidian Butterfly has her fighting alongside a convicted rapist who is, in all probability and in his own words, a serial rapist /murderer. Quote: "I thought you were convivted for rape" ... "The police got there too soon". The Anita of yesteryear killed people for doing the former alone - let's think back to Burnt Offerings and blue Moon. The newer version doesn't even have a paragraph to explain her reasons for a lack of reaction (i.e., solving the greater crime first, circumstances beyong her control, etc.). She assimilates the information, and moves on as though the character in question had admitted to a predeliction for, say, performing unspeakable acts upon stuffed toy penguins (which, in retrospect, probably would have gotten a stronger reaction). The book does seem to suffer from a certain lack of editorial attention - things like a set of mountains named the Blood of Christ are mentioned, pondered by characters, and never spoken of again - but misspellings and loose ends are par for the course. In and of themselves, they wouldn't have spoiled the effect. The lack of consistent charecterization from the last novel to the new one does.

Summary: Good but not the best
Review: This book was actually very good, but not one of my favorites in this series. I really missed Jean Claude and Richard. Without the complications of Anita's relationships the book is just a fast paced adventure. I preferred the emotional involvement of the other novels where you are constantly trying to figure out which man she might choose. On the whole though, I read it very quickly and it kept me riveted enough not to notice how long I had been on the stairmaster!

Review: Wonderful book! I love Edward, he's so great! My only complaint is that I missed Jean-Claude and Richard in this book. But other than that I absolutely loved the book!

Review: Obsidian Butterfly is a person and a club.This book takes place in Santa Fa,New Mexico. You will learn a lot more about Edward(Ted Forrester).The other people Edward brings in are Olaf and Bernardo. Anita finds out that Edward already has ask his girlfriend to marry him.Her name is Donna.Donna has 2 children.1 boy age 14.1 girl age 6.Her Husband died.He got killed by a werewolf.It is a good story.I liked it. Spoiler:Olaf loves Anita.

Summary: Anita Blake is HOT!
Review: Obisidian Butterfly was worth the wait. Anita Blake is larger than life in this lastest book. It's fast paced and exciting to be transported back into her interesting but compilcated life. If I wasn't already grown up, I'd want to grow up to be just like Anita. Learning more about Edward/Ted was great but I must confess that I really missed Jean-Claude and Richard. If only every girl had men like them to choose from. Even though I think a first time reader of Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner will enjoy this book, I encourage them to make it a point to buy all of them. After finishing Obisidian Butterfly, I myself went back and reread them all again. I really liked the hard back cover also. Hard back books are such a pleasure to hold and read.

Summary: A disappointing effort
Review: I find it very hard for me to not recommend this book, but I am starting to find these stories repetitive. The ending to this book is too pat and seemed to be a let down after all the build up. Ms. Hamilton's stereotypes of law enforcement have gotten old and tired and she never seems to change. It's time for her to break out of the tried and true pattern she's been using for these books and step out in a new direction. Hopefully future installments of the Anita Blake series will break new ground.

Summary: Obsidian Butterfly
Review: I really enjoy the Anita Blake books, but in some ways I think that this one was the weakest of the lot. You can see the basic plot in the other reviews but the real problem with the story was that it was very unfocused. It was great to find out more about Edward / Ted, one of the key characters in the series but unfortunately I don't think the book did justice to keeping up with both characters.I did enjoy the book but to a first time reader I would recommend an earlier book in the series.

Summary: The Best One Yet
Review: I thought Obsidion Butterfly was the best book yet. I think the main reason is because Edward is my favorite character and I was dying to learn more about him. Obsidion Butterfly gives you a peek into Edward's personal life as Ted, as well as Edward as himself, while still not giving "too" much away about his past. It leaves questions unanswered, yet leaves the all important mystery necessary to Edward. However, I must admit a certain curiosity to learn further about the depths of his past. This book was important to the series letting us view Edward more as a person with some pretty "human like" characteristics. Feelings that are very uncomfortable to the very unemotional Edward previously viewed. People may fear that the opening of Edwards character would take away some of his mystery and of what he symbolizes in the book. Fear not, if anything, the new emotional Edward makes him even more scary, not less. I also believe that this book shows more of the strengths in the closeness of Edward and Anita's relationship, and how they may be more alike than previously thought. Be prepared for some major breakthroughs in this catagory. If I missed anything in this book it was the absence of Richard and Jean-Claude, but it didn't kill me to have a break from them. It allowed the book to emphasize on some new set-ups. And yes, I was a little disappointed on what a doormat Donna was. You'd think Edward would pick someone a little stronger. Still, I viewed the kids as a nice and crutial touch of how far he'd go for a potential family. If anything, maybe Edward isn't as dead inside as we all once thought.

Review: This was a great story which fits in quite well with the continuing development of Anita Blake. A story which I would easily have given 5 stars too had the loose ends been tied up. As much as I want the next book as soon as possible, I would rather wait a few extra months and get a great LKH story without the loose ends that left me feeling unsatisfied.
