Rating: Summary: This is a good story, but not one of the best BTVS books.. Review: "Sins Of the Father" tries to do too much in too little space. The initial plot line of Buffy and Pike versus a stone demon was interesting, and a change from the typical vampire stories. However, we then get handed a couple of subplots that don't mesh well with the main story. Giles' confrontation with a "vampire" who appears to be his father might have been better handled as a separate book. And the "personal" elements--Angel/Buffy dealing with an old boyfriend showing up, Giles' issues with his father and his destiny as a Watcher, are familiar territory already. All in all, I'd give it between two and three stars.

Rating: Summary: My Review Review: A great book for Giles fans. This gives information about his past. The title mislead me until the end.
Rating: Summary: I was desperatly waiting for a new novel Review: A quality Buffy story as you would expect from this author. Overall, I found it a bit lacking in emotional interaction. The personal feelings Giles was going through were not well explored. Buffy's triangle with Angel and Pike was also weak. I loved the action and the stone demon storyline was terrific.
Rating: Summary: Sins of the Father Review: As Buffy books go, this one was pretty good. It's focus was mainly on Giles, who faced a tough challenge, so if you enjoy reading about him, this would be a good book. There was also a good storyline with a focus on Buffy and Angel, so if you are like me and love reading about their relationship, then this is a good story for you
Rating: Summary: Two great books, that don't quite make one. Review: Chris Golden's first solo effort strangles itself by having too many irons in the fire, and an anticlimactic ending. The Buffy book series, when it falters, makes the same mistakes as the T.V. show's weaker episodes. Since the show's fourth season, there has been a regrettable tendency to conclude potentially dramatic stories with inappropriately comic punch-lines. Sometimes it works (the fourth season Halloween episode), sometimes it sours ("Buffy Vs. Dracula"). More often, it sours, as it does for one of the plots in Sins of the Father. Yes, there are two plots - not a plot and a subplot, two plots - and rather than complimenting each other, they more get in each other's way. The one plot has Buffy hooking together with her old flame from her previous high school in order to save him from a vengeful Stone Demon, the other has Giles haunted by his vampire father. Of the two, Giles with a vampire father seems the more interesting, but that plot seems to take a back seat after a while - and is the one that ends with more or less a cheap joke. There was wonderful dramatic potential in this book, and some of it is realized. But it is overall one of the weaker entries in the series. Golden has done much better.
Rating: Summary: Golden does it again1 Perhaps the best BTVS fiction yet. Review: Golden's novel works on many different levels. There are multiple plot lines going on that all get drawn into a chilling ending. Some of the plot lines are a bit too prescribed, but for the Giles fan . . .this is a book that you've been waiting for.
Rating: Summary: Great book...can't wait to see it live!! Review: Having seen the original movie and then wondering where Pike went when the show debuted, I was pleased to pick up and read this book. Not only did it answer my questions, it also made me smile, cry and laugh. Unlike the on screen romance with clueless TA/Army comando Riley Finn, the Buffy in this book is torn between two men who genuinely understand her calling and do not try to make light of it. Thus, Buffy's decision is really interesting (especially when we learn that Pike and Angel can actually stand to be around each other) Sure, some people have panned the book, claiming that it deals too much with Giles and the relationship between his father, but in actuality, one can skip over those parts and not miss too much in the book. This book is an essential for all BTVS fans who want our heroine to actually be placed in an emotionally realistic love triangle. Like many other Buffy fans, I believe this would be a wonderful script for a badly-needed second movie and should seriously be considered. Even if there are no specifics mentioned for the role of Pike, physical and character descriptions make it clear that Golden wants no other than Luke Perry (who was the original Pike) to reprise the role. Because his presence was ironically one of the reasons why I went to see the 1992 movie, I would certainly not have any problems with that.
Rating: Summary: Good idea, disappointing story Review: I bought this book because I wanted to see confrontation between Angel and Pike. Angel? WHAT Angel? He wasn't in the story until about page 75! And c'mon, Buffy having thoughts of choosing Pike over Angel? so NOT what I was thinking! And also how it turned out to be a Giles story... it really disappointed me. But the idea for the story itself is very original and it could have been explored better.
Rating: Summary: Woo hoo! Review: I have been rereading some of my favorite Buffy books. Sins of the Father ranks right up there on the top of my list. Christopher Golden has a real talent for developing these characters. While Giles faces his most difficult foe, Buffy must fight demons both real and personal. Her old friend Pike returns. Angel wonders if he should step aside and let Buffy experience love with a human. Its a wonderful triangle of lovers old and new. The action of course is gripping. I enjoyed this even more with the second reading. I recommend this to all Buffy fans.
