Rating: Summary: Excellent Introduction to Jack the Repairman Review: In The Tomb we are introduced to 'Jack the Repairman' and his fantastic yet believable character. Fans of Jack should definitely check out NightWorld and Legacies. F. Paul Wilson fans know that the tomb, the keep, the touch, and night world were originally intended by Mr. Wilson to be one book but was split by his publisher.
Rating: Summary: 3 Cheers for Repairman Jack! Review: Jack is an 'everyman' that is easy to identify with, but on the flipside he's also a modern 'superhero' that we wish really existed. This book is a page turner for the very start, and reads much like some of the pulp greats like Doc Savage or The Shadow. Anyone who likes to read unusual fiction, action/adventure or supernatural type fiction should read this book.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: Like lots of people these days, I'm busy. Get up, exercise, shower, get myself and the kids ready for work, go to work, get the kids......
But somehow I finished this book in three days. It had been sitting on my shelf for months, waiting for me to succumb to the bait, and when I finally did I was definitely hooked. The story moves along briskly with well-drawn (almost like a comic book) characters, scenes of suspense, romance, humor, and mystery. The only thing holding me back from giving the book 5 stars is that there wasn't enough mystery. Too many key points were revealed early on, but I'll forgive the author and buy the next two in the series.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great Review: On the one hand, the book moved right along and kept me interested. It was well-constructed and had some appealing characters and situations. On the other hand, I never really fell under its spell. I never lost the feeling that the story was reading was artificially contrived by a writer of popular fiction. While I did enjoy the book, if I hadn't read it, I wouldn't really have been missing anything. And I still don't know what the title had to do with anything.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Mr. Wilson for bringing Jack back! Review: Repairman Jack is one of my favorite characters after reading The Tomb several years ago. Since I have been out of circulation for about a couple of years (reading any novels), I will look forward to reading new Repairman Jack novels based on other reviews including my reading The Tomb book in the past. I just ordered Legacies and Conspiracies books through here recently since the local used bookstore didn't have them except for The Tomb and All the Rage books which I bought. I will read The Tomb book first again to refresh my memory and familiarize myself with Repairman Jack's background. Because I last read The Tomb book about 11 years ago. Thanks Mr. Wilson for bringing him back.
Rating: Summary: GRET BOOK ONE OF THE BEST! Review: Repairman Jack is one of the coolest and most orginal characters I have read. This book is great it has mystery, horror, suspense, romance. It is great read it! Then go read the reast of the adversaty series.
Rating: Summary: REVENGE IS SWEET Review: Revenge may not be politically correct, but it sure is entertaining. I'm a new addition to the legion of Repairman Jack fans. When I was about half-way through this book, I knew I would suffer withdrawal pains at the end, so I ran out and bought Legacies, the 2nd Repairman Jack novel. Try it, you'll like it!
Rating: Summary: A CURSE FROM THE PAST INVADES THE PRESENT... Review: The horror genre is enriched by this book, which is inventive and original. Though the book is plot, rather than character, driven, it does not suffer for its lack of character development. The reader is kept too busy thinking about the plot to worry unduly about character development. Such is the power of this unusual and compelling horror story. The plot is relatively simple. The horror reached across the world from India to the United States. A heinous defilement and murders in a temple in mid nineteenth century India by British soldiers unleashes a curse which is to follow the descendants of the leader of the attack. Coupled with that curse is an entourage of creatures of unimaginable horror that have once again risen to do the bidding of one who would right past wrongs. But with great power comes great responsibility. Enter Repairman Jack, a man who works to put to right what once went wrong. A man who earns his living by his wits and by his ability to defend himself to the death, if necessary. If one has a problem, he will fix it. When he agrees to help a one armed Indian gentleman, Kusum Bahkti, retrieve a necklace that is a priceless family heirloom. How priceless,he will soon find out. Repairman Jack is thrust into the middle of a series of almost inexplicable events....mysterious disappearances, rank odors, unusual substances of Indian origin, and a necklace that holds the key to an ancient horror. He then encounters what would be the most formidable foes he would ever encounter. He must find a way to vanquish these hellish creatures or risk losing those whom he loves. Highly original and inventive, this is a pretty well written horror story that should keep even the most jaded of readers turning its pages. It is also the book that introduced the character of Repairman Jack, a popular character who would go on to have a series of books revolve around him.
Rating: Summary: A great horror thriller Review: THE TOMB is one of my all-time favorite novels. I'm so glad it's back in print. It stars one of my favorite characters, Repairman Jack, along with one of the most interesting villains you'll ever want to meet. This novel is creepy and loaded with full-tilt boogie action as well. I hear Repairman Jack's coming back in a new novel. About time! I can't wait.
Rating: Summary: The Tomb Review: The Tomb,
This was the first F. Paul Wilson novel I had read. I absolutely loved this book.
Repairman Jack is an amusing character who has many strange and mysterious clients in future novels. In this novel we're taken on a hunt for a strange necklace, which carries a curse.
Not only are we taken on an adventure, but we also explore the private life of Jack. We see a glimpse into his childhood and his first case. We also learn a bit about his would be love life and his girlfriend Gia.
I feel the most fun is had with the mysterious and sexy Kolabati and the hard-nosed Kosum. The mystery surrounding the rakosh egg drives the entire story forward at a rather nice pace.
This is a book I highly recommend to all horror and mystery readers. Repairman Jack is a character well worth reading. F. Paul Wilson is a true talent.
